  1. Re: Hero Designer for 6th Edition

I should mention that I am still working on the default HD6 export format (the character sheet format that's going to appear in the back of the book).

I _may_ have it done in time for the initial release of HD6, but there's likely to be a bit of an offset between the release of the software and the availability of export formats for 6th Edition characters.

I'll have more information by the end of the weekend (since I hope to get a chunk of work done on the export format by then).

  2. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #8: APG Goodies

To answer the question on HD: the 6E characteristics were handled by:

    1. Simply removing the figured components (e.g. "PDINCREASE", "PDINCREASELEVELS") from the template definitions. The 5E templates still have them and they are still available for use in custom templates, so, yes, you can create a custom 6E template that uses figured Characteristics.

    2. Adding in new characteristics for the newly added OCV, DCV, OMCV, and DMCV.

    3. Removing the template definition for COM (again, still available for custom templates).

The 10 available custom characteristics are still there and ready for use in custom templates....about the only thing that I can think of that hasn't been done (yet) is to add in attributes for the new characteristics to be based off of figured values.

  3. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers

Since Power Defense' date=' Mental Defense and the like don't usually have to be Resistant, isn't this a little odd? I mean, you would buy e.g. [i']Resistant Protection: +5 PD, +5 PD, +5 Mental Defense, +5 Flash Defense[/i] and then have to put a Non-Resistant limitation on the Mental Defense and the Flash Defense.

Or is there also a plain Protection power for non-resistant defenses?

    - Klaus

You just buy the defenses -- PD, ED, Power Defense, Mental Defense, Flash Defense. By default, they're all non-resistant.

If you want them to be resistant, you can either use the Resistant Advantage (as a Naked Modifier to affect Characteristics, etc) or you can purchase Resistant Defenses.

  4. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers

Actually at first I merely asked if there was an simple' date=' official option for building the original Force Wall. I then got shouted at and told basically, "Duh! It's obvious." [i']That[/i], I'll admit, I got a little annoyed at, and don't agree with. It seems to me that creating an independent, stand-alone, permanent object is quite different from actively maintaining a continuous power. There are benefits (remove the barrier at will just by ceasing to maintain it), drawbacks (End cost, having to be around and coherent), and other differences (the possibility of keeping it centered on yourself). So can we stop with the, "What, are you stupid/mean/trollish?!" and actually talk about the differences?

And yes, I focused on the negative. Actually I wouldn't say, "negative," is the biggest thing that focused me on it. I'd say, "unknown/uncertain," is bigger for me. The other changes I think are pretty simple and straightforward, and I like them. I probably should have said that first, but I tend to focus on the mechanics, and I should've done a little friendly ego stroking first. But I must ask, are we not allowed to ask questions about bits of this that we find a little disturbing, uncertain, or unclear? If so I'll gladly shut my yap, but I'll have a somewhat reduced opinion of this company as well.

So, in the absence of information (being that you do not have and have not read the rulebook), you'll focus on the negative? A negative that you make up in your own head based on information that you have to know is partial and lacking in many areas?

You're welcome to ask questions -- but they're likely to go unanswered, as those individuals who are privy to the entirety of the new rules are hesitant to expand upon things that Steve has said (they're under somewhat strict orders not to divulge information).

These are "teaser" previews. There will be many unanswered questions regarding them. That's kinda the point. Your focusing on the negative in the absence of other information does absolutely nothing to help anybody and is (quite frankly) frustrating in the extreme to those of us who have read the new rules and who have stated (multiple times) in this thread that they work quite well and allow for a much expanded (NOT diminished) range of effects that you can simulate.

  5. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers

I can imagine ways to hack it out as well. Here's how I view it. Currently' date=' we can build barriers quite easily using an Entangle with [i']Autofire[/i] or Area of Effect or something. We can build force walls quite easily using...well, Force Wall. It looks like now we'll be able to build barriers quite easily using Barrier, and force walls very strenuously using some big, clunky, overcomplicated, ugly power construct. A large step back IMO. As always I will reserve FULL judgement until I see the whole thing, but I guess I was just fishing for a little more assurance that there might still be a clean, simple, unambiguous, official option for this.

People frequently boggle my mind --- you've got a rather decent explanation of a new ability and how it helps the system. You've got multiple people who have actually seen the writeup telling you how much they like it. And you somehow manage to ignore this and come up with a worst case scenario in your head that ignores many things you've already been told....just so you can be pissed off, from what I can tell.

    Barrier 10PD/10ED, 0 BODY

How hard is that? How is that a "big, clunky, overcomplicated, ugly power construct"?

    Seriously.

Oh...wait. You want it to cost END to maintain or it disappears.

Barrier 10PD/10ED, 0 BODY, Costs END to Maintain

Wow. Clunky and overcomplicated all right.

From where I'm sitting, you've got more options and more elegant approaches to common schticks than you did before. But hey, feel free to ignore this as well and be all negative.....it's apparently what many do best.

  6. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #5: Body-Affecting Powers

Ah' date=' but [i']how?[/i] That's the question I've been asking since the idea was first brought up in the 6E forums. I hope it's addressed, if not in 6E2 then in the APG....

Errr....maybe I'm missing something here, but I fail to see where there could be any issue (or even question).

You don't tend to draw things out on a hex map by following the lines of the hex -- you draw out the map to scale (typically 1" = 2m) over the hexes. A hex is defined as being 2m from face to face -- it's just scaling. You could do the same thing on square grids, triangular, houndstooth, or pretty much any other shape you care to come up with.

A building that is defined as 20m long x 30m wide x 15m tall will look exactly the same on a hex map as one that is defined (in old terms) as 10" long x 15" wide x 7.5" tall.

  7. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far

    Sigh.

    One warning apparently isn't enough.

    CALM DOWN!

Cripes people....this shouldn't be difficult. Keep the discussion to the topic, not those discussing it.

If you feel that you're getting heated LEAVE THE DISCUSSION. Don't read the thread. AT ALL.

I've placed a number of people into moderated status as a result of this thread. If it gets to be more, then I'm going to just shut this down.

  8. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far

    ONE WARNING

This is the ONLY warning that is going to be issued on this: posts in this thread are getting heated. More specifically, they are becoming extremely insulting towards both members of these forums and the owners of this company.

    This will NOT be tolerated.

You are welcome to debate, so long as you keep it civil.

Insult other members, and you will be infracted. I will see to it that you are infracted in such a way as to make the remainder of your posts go into a moderation queue, requiring review by the moderation staff prior to going live to the public. This will effectively remove you from this rapidly progressing conversation.

Insult owners of the company and you will find yourself unwelcome on these forums (read: banned).

  9. Re: Uthanar Threads

Totally my fault. A couple of his threads/posts were in the midst of about 200 spam posts that we got blitzed with...I totally missed 'em. And banned the poor guy to boot ;)

While the banning is easily rectified, the posts....not so much. Deleted is deleted (at least, when you do it the way that I did).

  10. Re: Questions from a New Hero

STR: You're running into the marvels of rounding rules. It's not "total the STR and divide by two" -- it's divide each "purchase" of STR by two, rounding each calculation, and then totaling the lot of 'em.

    If you have 45 STR as a Characteristic and 15 STR as a Power, then the calculation would be: 45/2 + 15/2 = 22.5 + 7.5 = 23 + 8 = 31

You would do similar for CON during the calculation of STUN.

  11. Re: What makes an Advantage Naked?

Argh. You are right I forgot that I'd still have to buy the PD and ED separately. Oh well it is for equipment in a heroic game so the point totals really don't have a cap' date=' I'll just buy the Naked Advantage with a 0 END Advantage.[/quote']

Again: why jump through all those hoops? Just do it right: buy DEF as a Power (you don't need to purchase any levels...just leave it at +0 DEF), check off "Apply Modifiers to Base Characteristic" and assign Hardened. Done.

  12. Re: What makes an Advantage Naked?

For my original vehicle question the cheapest solution is to keep the vehicle's base DEF at two (or buy it down to 0) and then buy armor instead.

    Err...not really.

20 DEF as a Characteristics plus Hardened on the base Characteristic costs you 54 points for the base Characteristic, plus 15 points for the Hardened -- 69 points total.

Selling off the base 2 points of DEF and buying 20/20 Armor costs you -6 points for the sell-off of DEF plus 75 points for the Armor. The net total is 69 points -- exactly what you would get for building it as straight DEF.

  13. Re: What makes an Advantage Naked?

Errr...It's easy to do in HD.

As a Naked Advantage: Purchase "Naked Advantage", assign Hardened, and set the points for the base Power appropriately (to the cost of the Vehicle's DEF, in this case).

As a modification of the base Characteristic (not a Naked Advantage): Open "DEF" on the Powers tab, check "Apply Modifiers to Base Characteristic" and then assign Hardened.

  14. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books...

Am I the only one that finds this offensive?

    Nope.

It is up to the mods whether he is going to be allowed back into the forums. At this point in time, he is banned and I strongly suspect that it is going to remain that way.

So folks are clear: threats of physical violence to any forum member will not be tolerated.

  15. Re: Help With Build (1)

Umm are you sure about this? It was my understanding (and I could be incorrect or behind the times) that a naked advantage that could only be applied to a single power did not cost endurance if the main power did not normaly cost endurance

For instance if I had a naked advantage that only worked with my energy blast with 0 endurance, lets say Armor Piercing with concentration that it would not cost any endurance

I admit I could be wrong, but that was my understanding...

    Positive.

    5ER 244-245

  16. Re: Help With Build (1)

I think I see why: You applied the advantage to the Active Cost (37 pts.) instead of the Base Cost (25 pts.). It doesn't help that in HERO Designer' date=' Naked Advantages cost END even if the powers that they apply to don't (in this case, 0 END had to be bought for Armor Piercing, even though the power it was 'linked' to was 0 END). It should look like this in HD:[/quote']

That's because Naked Advantages cost END to use, regardless of the Power they are applied to. The only exception to this is a Naked Advantage of Reduced END.

  17. Re: How to rescue civilians

...but I can still throw (the manouvre) someone 30" and not hurt them?

caveat: not an official answer (obviously)

No. I'd allow the 1d6/1" damage swap for the base Throw damage (before STR). i.e. the damage that is caused by the target's velocity prior to the throw. Any STR that is added into the equation to extend the distance will cause damage to the target.

Would likely be a good question for Steve....

  18. Re: How to rescue civilians

The confusion appears to be between Throw (the maneuver) and throw (the action).

Throw: I'm going to slam you into the ground (hard). Optionally, I can choose to have you hit at an "oblique" to the ground -- skidding you along it. The more oblique the angle, the less damage you're going to take and the further you're going to skid along the ground.

throw: I'm going to hurl you through the air. You will take damage when you hit the ground (unless you know how to Breakfall) based on how far/hard I throw you.

The question you cited refers to Throw (the maneuver), not throw (the action).

  19. Re: Requires skill roll

    Er... it does? Far as I know' date=' RSR is set, GA. 1:10 -1/2, 1:20 -1/4 & 1:5 -1; am I mistaken?[/quote']

    No, you're correct.

It is adjusted based on the value of the roll when based off of a Characteristic roll, but not when based off of a Skill Roll.
