  1. Maybe I should have posted this last thread on the Hero System Discussion Board instead. The more I look at it the more my question seems to be not necessarily dependent on Genre. The impression I am getting is the Naked Power Advantages are probably mor approprtiate in a Hero-level campaign (as opposed to Superhero). Something like Cyberpunk or Pulp Hero, and lets not forget Ninja Hero, to represent some of the fantastic things that the Heroes can do.And so, NPA should be avoided (or at least have the disad "Hunted:Watched") in a Champs game.
  2. Hey everyone, I posted another thread about Naked Advantages, and was a bit surprised at the answers I got. Just wanted to ask the Herophiles when (and how) THEY used Naked Advantages?
  3. Ah yes, the old April Editions of Dragon Magazine. I believe the three buttons for the Robe of Blending (3-speeds) were: Chop, Dice, Puree.
  4. Hey Monolith Just an observation: [Nitpicking mode on] There was a long thread that spoke about Diving For Cover and it liabilities. Given that the only choices would be to stand and take it or Dive For Cover, and be at ½DCV for 1 or more segments, that is still not bad. And anyway, can't you DFC from a normal attack? [Nitpicking mode off] Sorry about that, but you do bring up some good points. One being the fact that he will have to spend more END (but like alot of bricks he has a few to spare ). I guess I could insist on x2 END... Also, your pointing out that not all Advantages are equal (even though they have the same value) definetly has some merit. I guess I will just have to think long and hard about it before allowing certain Naked Advantages. A GM must be ever vigilant! Thanks guys! (Keep posting, wouldn't mind having other opinions...)
  5. I know I indicated that I was a first-time GM for Champions, but I am not a newbie! I have been watching a cap of 12 DC, no worries about that. But I was mentioning the cap on AP for the reason that "why would he use a simple strike when he can do THAT?!?" For example, in the USPD, they have a Strength "power" where a brick can sweep his arm through a hex instead of attacking an enemy with a straight punch (AoE: 1 hex on Strength). Now, that means that the character in question would only ever face a 3 DCV, however agile the opponent might be. So, I was thinking of insisting that the character only be able to do 8 DC with such an attack. Doing the math with Strength of 60: - Straight punch of 12 DC => 60 AP - AoE sweep (1 hex) of 8DC (or 40 STR)=> 60 AP What do you guys think of such an adjustment? PS: I should have mentionned that I was suggesting a DC cap from the beginning. Sorry guys.
  6. Hey everyone, I'm just about to start GMing my first Champions campaign, and I just want to see how other may have handled this situation: Being my fist campaign, I am using the suggested caps for a Standard Superhero campaign. So 60 Strength/12 DC is the ordre "du jour". I have a brick that wants to get a Multipower with some of the typical "brick tricks" (ie earthquake, flick of unconsciousness, etc.). These will probably be bought as Naked Advantages to Strength. Would you guys suggest it be bought to a level that would equate with the 60 point cap? (ex.: Explosion on Strength would limit the Strength used to 40.) Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. Hello Steve, I'm about to start a Champions campaign, and one of the team members is goig to be a mentalist, so I want to be ready for some future questions: 1) Would Ironclad be classified as having an "Alien" minds for mental power effects? 2) Do you need to specify what class of mind you can affect with an Ego Attack?
  8. I guess the tought here is that Stun Only would be tacked on because of the Variable Limitation, but I don't see it. The only place I saw the limitation mentioned is under the EB power listing, and it is a 0-pointer there. And giving the choice to a character to either do body or not is not much of a limitation (except for the fact that a STUN Only attack does no knockback.) I see it more as an advantage.
  9. I would use the Multipower with fixed slots idea, and all you have to do then is buy Naked Advantages in the slots up to the strength that he wants to use (or that you limit him to.) The problem with that is that "STUN Only" is a 0-point limitation (advantage?) on EBs, so to apply it to Strength you would either have to buy it as an EB, and forget the Naked Advantage on Strength, or come up with your own advantage cost. And the default in the rules (AFAIK) is you don't have to do all or nothing, unless you put the "Beam" limitation on said attacks.
  10. Well, Phoenix could be still be some kind of entity that will provide the extra boost. She could have come into contact with it when she used Cerebro to locate the bad guys in the first movie. After all she was floored by the feedback of contacting all those extra minds. Maybe one of those minds wasn't remotly human and has contacted her...
  11. So then, the Janus Key for Dr. Macabre (CU p14) is built on the wrong number of points? As an aside, is «Age» concidered a disad in for Champions characters? Thanks for the clarifications!
  12. I just had a problem with with extra-dimensional movement and HD. dsimon said this about the adders to Extra-Dimensional Movement: "20 Character Points to transport the Character to any single location in a single other dimension. +5 Character Points for any location in a single other dimension = 25 points total +10 Character Points for any location in a related group of dimensions = 20+5+10 = 35 points total +10 character Points for any location in any dimention = 20+5+10+10 = 45 points total" I was wondering if that is right. If it is then Dr. Macabre Janus Key (CU p.14) is in need of some errata, because the AP for the power seems to be 35 points, and by the above supposition it should be 45 ponts. Please help clarify.
  13. Could be. Still a bit new at Hero, and I din't look it up in FRed first...
  14. For Iron Man, Tony Stark probably has a hefty Gadget pool, so I just thought about this: Throught the Gadget Pool, buy Multi-Form, with the alternate form being an Automaton, with a Trigger to activate. Of course both forms would have to take Body, so if you disabled the Automaton version poor Mr. Stark probably isn't doing to well... Personally, I think that would be cheesy, but in comics, your allowed...

    CKC Trivia

Hello all, Finished my once-over of CKC, and I like. But this is bothering me: Under the Background/History of Ankylosaur, it sayd that Paul Bressler broke into an UNTIL warehouse with his buddy John MacDougal. Who is «John MacDougal»? I didn't see his name anywhere else in the book. I open the floor to your responses...
  16. Having many post by Mr. Long, of course I know that I can change the back story of Champion's infamous Dr. D. As, to Vhan being close to Doom, after reflexion I do agree. Only difference is how easy it is to visit Doom compared to Vhan...
  17. Hello all, I have just bought CKC, as a prelude to running my very own Champions campaign. I think it is safe to say, that some of the villains in the book are probably (loosely) based on characters that we have seen in one comic or another. Reading up on Dr. Destroyer, I was wondering how I would role-play him, and at first I thought of running him akin to Dr. Doom, but the more I think about it the less I believed that. You see, though Dr. Doom has power-armor, science skills that are unequalled by any one on Earth (except Reed Richards ), and has an ego that dwarfs Jupiter in size, he also has a Code of Honour and the ruler of a country. This definetly give Dr. Doom more «character» than Champion 's Dr. Destroyer. Without taking into account powers, I was wondering which villain would most closely evoke the «feel» of Doom (sorry for the pun).
  18. Another idea would be to give fighters Find Weakness (only vs Ships), since that is sorta how fighters do damage to large ships, with precision instead of brute force.
  19. More Tick quotes! "Drop it Chairface, or I'll write my name on YOU!" "I'll snap these steel cables like they were pasta!" said as he was tied to someone who looked and sounded remerkably like Dick Tracy.
  20. I don't have the right book to know the intricacies of Mechanon's Duplication power, but this is what I might do. Use the duplcation as is and give the body the power Teleport with extra-time limitation, which triggers when Duplication is activated. The SFX is that the body "explodes" and is destroyed. How does the he get another body? He has to wait for the extra time on the teleport to lapse to recombine. The SFX of the reconstituted body would be it being rebuilt. What do you guys think? Of course, Mechanon should have some bases so that his body could teleport to somewhere safe.
  21. In the previous post you said this about multiple shots on ablative defenses: «Each hit that would reduce the Ablative Defense according to the Ablative rules at use in the campaign reduces it. Thus, five hits could potentially reduce the Activation Roll five steps, even if they all occur on the same DEX in the same Phase.» Would this include multiple shots from an autofire attack that does enough damage on every shot? Thanks ahead of time...
  22. When using the «Cover» maneuver, can a character choose a specific hit location? (i.e. the Head)
  23. Just to ask: Are the ranges for guns in FREd supposed to be calculated per the active points? If so, rifles should get the "Increased Maximum Range" advantage, no? Keep up the good work! (Can't wait to get TUV!!!)
  24. We're both right (sort of). There is a reference to it under the Brace Maneuver, and it is mentionned under the STR min, but that is mentionned on pp327-328
