Re: CU - The Monster: Story Ideas
Not really running any superhero campaign now adays but how about this..
The “world of supers” is a internet based rpg with an extensive back-story.
Off course in the campaign superheroes are real and products that include supers in some way is much more popular than here. In world of supers anyone can be a hero, and there are often events where world class authors write stories and adventures for the “players”.
Last year the top writers of the company had a brainstorming for their new villain. Earlier one of their artist had drawn a picture and they had sent him into the game, however they had only intended to use him once but he was so popular that the author had to make up some back-story for him. The fan base was expecting great things and if they could come up with something it would be the perfect fit for their Halloween issue. They all gathered in old cabin far from disturbances and got to work.
However several of the authors were also rivals and this was the first time they were to work together, not only were they professionally rivals but also rivals for love between each other, sexual tension and jealousy were the ground for the professional rivalry and the author team, this world class author team, the most creative and intelligent minds in the world were all working overtime to outdo each other and to try to weave the most horrifying version of the unnamed creature. Not only to scare the fans but also to scare each other, to prove to each other who was the greatest.
But then….

Well that is all the information the heroes can get out of this tape since it is an video tape showing the police interview with the last surviving author from that fatal night.
The tape is broken up by people starting to run around and through the screams and gun smoke you can see the looming shape of the monster.

Okay so maybe it is not really that original as far as back-stories goes but it does explain why Cybermind thinks its an robot and why it attack superheroes.
Besides it would work in my campaign since none of my players even know (or care) about superheroes or superhero games.
