Re: Balancing frequency of powers with Disads The first part seems like POWERS that do not work in the presence of a Susceptibility [sUPERMAN comes to mind] The second sounds like a DEPENDENCE (once you take it your powers work fine. Vampire powers come to mind] I would be careful before allowing such a character in my game.

  3. Your character is given the ability to travel into the past and change any 1 major event of human history;JFK being assassinated, Pearl Harbor, etc What event would you choose knowing it won't cause any sort of paradox or otherwise harmful effect on you etc.

Re: Advice for GM'ing 1-Actually the UNTIL SUPERPOWERS DATABASE gives all sorts of examples on powers for beginners-just pick what they want 2- Ask the player"What do you want your character to be able to do; fly , shoot fire" etc. Alternately ask them what superhero they most want to model their character after. 3- Run a "danger-room practice session". The players vs Mechanon is always fun
  5. I was just curious, when you write up a character how long do you usually make his background/origin? 1 paragraph? 1 page?
  6. Re: more PRE related powers If you are intent on it not be a power like Invisibility then the closest skill would seem to be; Concealment (long term) or Stealth (short term)

Okay heres how it goes; When this character walks into a room all the lights go off, the television & radio fail to function, the elevator stops etc. As long as the character in question is around anything that uses electrical power , in any way, it will not function at all . The power would have a radius.

Both are obscenely powerful:ugly:
  10. Re: Champs and players with no comic book background If I may go on a tangent of sorts.. .. My friends all read X-Men while I read other titles. When I played their superhero games we met Magneto, faught Sentinels, etc. In my games the PC's met the Avengers, plus alot of solo-heroes; Spiderman, Moon Knight, etc With the differences in our background reading there were some "interesting" times. Today I mostly used either Champions NPC's; Green Dragon, Brick, Dragonfly, or a villain I made up .

I once played a character who was a lawyer [hey they exist] It came up in play once when one of the team members had some legal troubles, I became his lawyer. As a GM I used the "law" a few times, when it seemed best; The villian sues the heroes for trespassing on his base kinda thing. Then there was the DNPC who was caught drunk driving(almost killed Peter Parker before he got his powers) [What if? readers will remember this] There was a law governing the use of telepathy/mind control on a suspect to gain otherwise hiddden information. [Violated illegal search and seizure] Be creative and have fun, the law is just another element to be used in moderation.

  13. Re: Wisdom How about EXTRA PRE since most PRE skills involve the use of "wisdom" ie-interaction skills. Maybe even DEDUCTION; "Which is the wisest way to handle this?" (special insight)
  14. Re: Funny Hero Thread A player in my Champions game wanted to run a "just for laughs" game, so I introduced a female shapeshifter- Miss Tahaki (Ms Take). The catch was she couldn't control what she changed into, it had to be related to something going on in the scene. For instance, Hamburglar robs a McDonalds and Ms Take passes by as he makes his escape, during which he knocks over a trash can. This triggers the shapeshift and she changes instantly into a sanitation engineer. Broom, mop,can, outfit and a male. "Just look at all this mess...." and accidentally trips the burglar with his street broom. LOL:celebrate
  15. One Champions option for basic campaign rules was that no power would cost ENDURANCE, but no limitations could be used. Has anyone here ever run such a game ? I'm curious as to how that option affected play beyond the obvious- "I'm soo tired..."
  16. Re: "Look, up in the sky! It's Super Saint!" Christian-themed heroes As my screen name might suggest I played an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, who was blessed with powers directly from G-d. I also did a takeoff of "Etrigan" (the Demon) as a preist who turned into an angel by saying a certain prayer. Then there was the woman who found out she was a direct descendant of John Bunyan (Pilgrims Progress), she gained "Christian" powers; Healing, speaking in toungues, prophecy, etc AND wore the "Armor of God": (Shield of Faith, etc) Outside that I did a man brought back from the dead by the "Light" (New Age), also a man who had been a PC's grandfather reincarnated (Bodhisattva).
  17. Re: House Rule: Banning Multipowers & Elemental Controls? Actually I have a house rule against EC's and Multi's which have over 5 or 6 powers after that it costs extra for each slot. I do something similiar with VVP's- they must take a limitation to describe the pool [ fire powers only, say] but they don't get credit for the limitation. They can pay extra to remove the limitation, just like NO SKILL ROLL REQ, OR TAKES NO TIME TO CHANGE (Cosmic Power Pools)
  18. Re: Power Build: Position Swap Missile Reflection based on Teleportation (position switch) You hold your action, then "position switch" Teleport to where the attacker was and they wind up in the hex they were targeting (Missile Reflection- special effect)
  19. Re: solo play??? One of the things I usually do with a player new to Champions is make character creation easy for them. I ask the player-"What 5 things do you want your character to be able to do?" Fly, Produce fire, etc If you create the character this way the player will be able to do what they want and you can handle the mechanics for them.

  21. I've always wondered what the justification for giving away your experience points to another was ? You could wager them, give them to the group base, buy a vehicle for the base. Why was this allowed?

  23. Re: Something I just noticed and dislike about multipowers Actually theres also the "sanity factor". With enough limitations you could fit a disgustingly high power in a small Power Modifier. ATOMIC BOMB= 20d6 RKA Area Effect, Megascale.(30,000 KM) [1200 PTS] OAF ,Bulky, Extremely Difficult to obtain (bomb), 1 use (each), Side Effects Extreme ,Automatic (Fallout), Requires Multiple Users= Presidential Order, Bomber crew and pilot, No range-either timer etc or hit ground, Cannot be bounced, Independent(power is in bomb), Extra Time (getting to target and dropping the bomb) [1 hour] cost 86 points
  24. Re: Frameworks for character Disads I remember once a player wanted UNLUCK 2 and took the next level UNLUCK with an activation roll. UNLUCK 3 total. Reasoning- It's just going to be one of those days.
