  1. I was wondering if you all out there would have any input on the following disadvantage; Quadraped: 4 legs Physical Limitation: No hands, arms count as legs
  2. In many superhero generation systems there is a good chance that characters will not be of the same point/power level. Among these are; Marvel Superheroes, DC game system, and Villians and Vigilantees. Has anyone here developed a system for variable power/point levels for Champions starting characters:help: ?
  3. You are a memeber of a medium sized superhero group, you have powers and so does your first born child. Your grandchild is a superhero and comes back in time to tell you that every child of your team (except yours)becomes a supervillian and their team rules the world. Your grandchild, a superhero, tries to kill your teammates before they can give birth to these supervillians. What would your character do?

    1 Speed

Has anyone out there ever played a PC with a 1 SPEED? Why or why not?
  5. If a character with a ranged attack gets past the DEF of a Force Wall it goes down and the rest of the damage goes to the person inside the Force Wall. But what about an HTH attack? If it does enough body as to bring down the Force Wall what happens to the person behind the Force Wall???
  6. I was part of a Champions group many years ago that seemed to use certain words to describe combat effects. Here are some I remember; PRANG- An attack that did not get beyond the characters DEF was said to have made this sound. GUMMO- An acronym for "at Game Masters Option" , when a character was at -31 STUN or more. Did any of you guys ever have something like this???
  7. Re: Personality quiz for characters Back when Champions 2 &3 came out there was a number of sheets intended for general use. One of them was a sheet with a list of questions something like what you are suggesting. Ask Steve Long if any copies exist. From what I can remember some of the questions were something like; What does your character do in his spare time, hobbies etc?
  8. I started a science fiction campaign some time ago and it was declared that the premise was cliche. FTL Star Travel existed but it took a long time to get to the edge of known space. So I figured that with advances in technology at some point a new drive would be developed. Using a ship that was avaialble the FTL drive was installed (Anyone remember Star Blazers/ Space Cruiser Yamato) One comment I received declared this idea as cliche'- An old ship fitted with a new drive. So can you people tell me what is so horribly wrong with the idea and concept? It seemed to make sense at the time.
  9. Re: How to handle RKA? Well you , as GM, know exactly what kind of DEF your villians have, right? Make sure you build villians that can take the damage the PC's dish out and not be knocked out, while giving the villians powers to k-o the PC's. 1-Is this guy registered with the Police etc as having a Lethal Attack? He may have to spend points on Weapon Permit or gain a Hunted by the Authorities and the like. 2-Does anyone in the PC group have CODE vs KILLING etc? They will definately object to the casual use of potentially lethal force 3- Mind control him to attack his friends with that power. See how popular he is then (Reflection/Deflection also works well with this) 4- Guilt Complex; Make an easy to kill villian and the PC becomes a murderer Worse-> dress up his DNPC as the PC's Hunted and watch the fun 5- Say "NO!" (as such things do not happen in comic books) All in all make sure the player is mature enough to use such a power wisely
  10. Re: Special Powers in Power Frameworks I never have used any of these powers in any power framework. I also put limits on how many powers you can have in an Elemental Control and/or Multipower. They are too easily abused otherwise. So far I have not had much trouble with players adjusting to this "house rule". The NPC's I create for my own games follow these rules also.
  11. Re: Help building a power please Have you considered; Stretching (indirect- does not pass in between hexes)
  12. Re: How to build this power I created a character with this power, I wrote it up as; Mind Control (No Range), Telekinesis (only to animate an object) (No range)
  13. The "war on terror" ended but there was a depression, worse then that of 1929. This was a total economic collapse ! The United States fell apart into disassociated cities with little to no central government. Sometime later the Players will enter one such town in an effort to; reclaim that greatness that has fallen into darkness. Campaign name: RECLAMATION Power Level: HERO (powerful) I'm thinking a Shadowrun-ish style game. It still needs work but I wanted to see how it looked so far.
  14. Greetings oh great Champions Guru ... I'd like an official answer to a question, paying for a special effect. A number of times people on this site have asked this question but I don't think we have ever recieved a direct official answer. Lets say I have flight and pass by a small light object, the object gets caught up in the vaccum behind me. (Anything from leaves, a cat, to you name it.) Telekinesis, no range, only for small light objects, only things behind me, based on flight (must continue to fly or power stops), invisible power effects, etc. This smells of munchinism to be totally honest, yet most GM's would make you pay for this quite natural effect. So there is the question; At what point do you "really have to pay for that" ?
  15. I have heard many people ask about a Campaign history and I wanted to ask you all what your opinion is. When I read most comics, I don't see anything that would indicate variartions in real world history based on superbeings effects. Did the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor with flying energy projector villian teams? How about a few mentalists fighting along-side George Washington ? When I create a game I usually keep changes in real world history to a minimum, which makes it easier for the players to imagine.
  16. Re: Bringing new players to HERO System. The one thing I have found that turns most people OFF about Champions is that the system is too "generic". Now with some game systems; DC, MUSH, V&V,GURPS etc, the powers are neatly spelled out. Example-> Fire Generation does 3d8 damage and thats all you need to know. However in HERO that could be 4d6 Energy Blast with the special effect of Fire. It can be; Fire Breathing, Flaming Missile, Pyrokinesis, etc. (Sturring up the imagination of a gamer seems to be a rare skill indeed.)
  17. Re: prerequisites as a limitation Have you considered the fact that some skills have requirements that are not openly stated???? Driving: Car [must be of proper age, and be physically capable] Computer Programming [ must be Computer Literate] Some of these might , however, suggest disads that would simulate a lacking requirement; Young (can't vote, can't drive, can't drink alcohol, has a curfew, restricted to PG 13 or less movies, etc). Computer Illiterate ( good for people who live in poor countries, are too old to have ever used a computer before)
  18. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question And who is next to join our team? Jimmy Dugan, Foxbat, both??
  19. Shadow Dagger 3d6 RKA (thrown dagger version of power) [4 endurance to create] This is not truely a focus, as it cannot be picked up and used against you, instead try some version of ; Restrainable (-1/4 Lim) [FRED p 200] to simulate that it can be disarmed. As an RKA can also be used at point blank range , ie HTH combat, you just add -> costs 0 Endurance (only when used in HTH combat) and the DAGGER will remain in your hand until "disarmed" , after paying 4 endurance to create it in the first place.
  20. Re: When Heroes become Villians Oddly enough this is a question I was going to ask the gaming community. I set up a game and the (so called) "heroes" start to act like villians. Who are you wondering about; is it yourself ,your character or your group? Well does your character have disadvantages such as ; "honorable", "code versus killing", or similiar?? As for yourself, this is a role-playing game where a certain amount of distance is required. If you don't like whats going on you can change characters or leave the group.
  21. Which superhero cliche' is your favorite?
  22. Re: Cool/Funny One liners I had a Kraven the Hunter type called "Tiger Eye" who was pronounced by the GM as the group wit, here are some lines he said; Upon facing a 50' giant worm that was wrecking the city " Let me guess, you just escaped from a bowl of spaghetti on fraternity hazing night?" In an attempt to save a teammate in the belly of the beast "And to think I used to hate biology class when we had to cut open worms"
  23. ***Base character of 100 pts+ 150 pts in disadvantages = 250 pts*** This used to be the basic starting hero in Champions ( 1-4) but now it would be a version of LOW POWERED (Hero 5) . I have heard the term "WHIMP" used so many times with regard to characters of that "power" level [players emphasis] . First of all this is a role-playing game, not a power game (powergamers??) Secondly, why is a character considered a "whimp" if he only has; a SPD of 4, PD/ED 15 (fully resistant), 8d6 Energy Blast???? WHY??? Isn't it easier to add points later on in the game, beyond just regular exp pts, then take points away ?? Isn't it more fun to have to worry when captured and deathtrapped , then swallow a 20d6 RKA and just burp???
  24. Re: Transform...Anything to Anything Would not allow; 1- Making valuables; Straw to gold, coal to diamonds,a $1 bill to a $100 bill 2- Killing someone instantly; Oxygen to Liquid Nitrogen, Blood to Acid 3- Duplicating a power; Stone to Air [ Tunnelling], Gravity to none [telekinesis/flight] 4- Creating a "unique" item Gold Kryptonite Would allow; 1- Metal to dust (ie: Rust) 2- Cosmetic Changes (vanilla to strawberry) 3- Sand to drinkable water ( useful in the desert)
  25. Saving for that "radiation" accident Actually I've done this many ways in past games of Champions, back when it was Champions 1. Method # 1- GM holds back a certain percent of experience knowing that the players will have such an accident. Then supply them with the points or power. This is especially good with Mystery Powers!!! Method # 2- Ask each character what they want to spend experience on, whatever exp are left are stored for future use. Method # 3 - The classic "Re-write" whenever a new Champions book comes out. [Like Champions 2, Champions 3, Champions 4, HERO ]
