1. Re: X-Wing

What's a good Dexterity to go at?

I'm really stuck with it being Size 8, given that's about how big an X-Wing is, and -5 is a chunk. They're s'posed to be hard to hit, after all, and almost any schmuck can hit something at DCV 2 (if I, say, set it to the Dexterity to 20 or went at maximum Combat speed and used that.)

Oh, also, would DCV-dedicated 5-point CSLs apply to snubfighter combat?

Another thing to keep in mind, unless I'm muddling this up, is that a vehicle's SPD and DEX is it's own SPD/DEX or the SPD/DEX of the pilot or driver whichever is lower.

Simply raising the stats on the vehicle won't help unless you've got a highly trained pilot in there. If Outsider's argument doesn't convince you, you could put some levels in their, but I've noticed this isn't usually done.

2. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Page 98 of Wild Cards I: "I never got tired enough for it to fade entirely, not when I wanted it on. I was scared of what would happen then, and I always took care to take my rest when I needed it."

To reflect this, you could limit a small amount of the armor with "not when very tired" and give the character a fear of being too tired, or you could buy a small part of the armor as having an END cost, and let long term Endurance rules work. I think the first option is simpler.

I think of all Wild Cards characters as Superworld characters first. I read that this was how the series began, though I don't have a reference to back me up now, the timing is right, and as a long term Superworld gamemaster and player (who eventually converted to Champions when it had rules for vehicles etc. and it had become obvious that Superworld was dead in the water and was never going to have such things), I can say that both the design and play of the characters shows every possible Superworld hallmark.

Because of this, in another system, some of the characters, or quite a few, have quirks that aren't really quirks, they're just facts about how the character's native system works.

One of these quirks is the devastating effect of impact damage. Car wrecks and falls will kill ungodly tough characters, easily. A runaway suburban car or a fall can do triple what a hero might be allowed to do with an energy blast. Stick a Mad Max spike on the front for Impaling damage (yes, this is Runequest), and you can do a really large multiple of what superheroes dish out.

So when you look at Jack Braun and falling damage, you can choose to reflect his concern as an oddity in Hero System, or (as I would do) disregard it as something that never marked the character out as unusual in his original context.

Very interesting points.

As someone who saw Superworld on the shelf, but never went there, this is a neat insight.

3. Re: Environment for Post Apoc settings

Thanks for the positive feed-back, guys.

Would I look dumb to ask what exactly is the rep system in the forum and how does it work?

(Sorry, I'm still an "incompetent normal"...)

Thanks

Only if you Rep me!

Just kidding. Clicking on the little scales in the upper right hand corner of a post allows you to reward the poster with Rep. How much Rep you give depends on how much Rep you've received over your time on the boards.

Also, you're amount of Rep won't show up as a numerical value until you have made 50 posts (posts in the Non-Gaming Discussion forum don't count.)

Hope this makes sense. I'm a sickie today and not into proofreading.

4. Re: Random Lucha update

The Lucha manuscript passed 100' date='000 words today, not including whatever portion of Sidekick we wind up putting in. I'm guessing about a net of 25,000 words to go, though it's actually a bit more to be added because there's still some trimming needed in a couple of chapters. dw[/quote']

That sounds like a pretty hefty tome.

Is there a page # ballpark for it? I know there's no way to know, but just curious about how long it might be...

5. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Hero

I think your wish has already come true. The way they keep pushing back the primary season here in the states' date=' it seems like these mooks have been running for office since the last election anyway.[/quote']

Yes, soon it will always be election time and always the holiday shopping season...

6. Re: Post-Apocalyptic Hero

I just got the book (and others) via UPS today. At first glance it seems a tad sketchy for my tastes' date=' but I'll get back to you on the final verdict.[/quote']

Well, I'm finally reading my way through TUV which is very high-quality indeed...

I'm not surprised you expect the books you $$$ to be of a certain standard.

7. Re: Treasure Trove of Cool Old Hero/Champions Stuff That I Found

That's over a thousand dollars in inventory just sitting there for a decade. This store owner must be on crack. Whatta nut.

I would just offer him $200 to clear the space.

Yup it's a bit of a mystery. The store is pretty big (as a games, plus model place). I wonder if they don't really have the money to restock the section if they do sell what they've got. The latest supplements they've got, for any RPG, seems to be early-90s....

8. Re: Treasure Trove of Cool Old Hero/Champions Stuff That I Found

You mentioned it had the original 80s prices. Is that what he is selling them for?

Oh, yes...

I saw that Champions III was going for $10. for example. On a whim I got Robot Gladiators a supplement for Robot Warriors for $6.

And, as I mentioned above, the guy is having a sale on the 15th where everything is 20% off the regular price!

Anybody want to visit? :D

9. Hey Gang...

I decided my little UNTIL game needed a Fast Assault agent package. It allowed me to adapt Speedster Martial Arts to a form that even agents could love.

You'll find an .hpk file of the Fast Assault Agent Package Deal and an .hdp for UNTIL Fast Assault Martial Arts in the Vault section at the Hero Designer website.

So, the agent template, after the pattern set in UNTIL: Defenders of Freedom...

Fast Assault Agent (FST)

6	+3" Running
3 3 points divided between Swimming and Leaping
3	Breakfall
3	Teamwork
10	Martial Arts: Fast Assault Martial Arts
10	Choose 10 points' worth of the following: Acrobatics, Climbing,
Combat Driving, Combat Piloting, Combat Skill Levels, Deduction,
Demolitions, Electronics, Environmental Movement, Lockpicking,
Fast Assault Martial Arts maneuvers, Navigation, Paramedics, Riding,
Security Systems, Skill Levels, Stealth, Survival, Systems Operation,
Tactics, appropriate TFs, any Background Skill, improve any Package
Deal Skill.

35 pts.

And...

UNTIL Fast Assault Martial Arts

Passing Disarm: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, -1 DCV, Disarm, 20 STR to Disarm roll; FMove
Passing Strike: 1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +0 DCV, 2d6 +v/5; FMove
Passing Throw: 1/2 Phase, +0 OCV, +0 DCV, 2d6 +v/5; Target Falls; FMove
Sprinting Dodge: 1/2 Phase, -- OCV, +4 DCV, Dodge All Attacks, Abort; FMove
Sprinting Grab: 1/2 Phase, -2 OCV, -1 DCV, Grab Two Limbs, 20 STR for holding on; FMove
Sprinting Throw: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, -2 DCV, Grab Two Limbs; +v/5; Target Falls; FMove

Note: Each maneuver costs 5 points.

10. Re: Treasure Trove of Cool Old Hero/Champions Stuff That I Found

I have a few of those. But I sure could use a few more. Why doesn't this guy have an ebay store?

Well, I think that he's a lot more into the model/mini side of his business now. There's a lot of stock that's just been sitting there. Forever.

He's a little older, too, and it may be that he just doesn't want to put in the effort to go there? But, yeah, you think an eBay store would be an ideal way for him to move the old stock out. You could work on it while things are slow in the store.

11. Re: Treasure Trove of Cool Old Hero/Champions Stuff That I Found

Do they have an e-mail? :)

I had to dig it up from their business card, but here's the email. Not sure if it's case sensitive, tho I doubt it:

AMEAGLES@IX.NETCOM.COM

Come to think of it, does Netcom still exist? Someone let me know if the address works and I'll add it to the listing above...

Here's a fax # for them: 206.363.6569

12. Re: Lace & Steel RPG... worth it?

I'm not impressed with the mechanics' date=' but the setting and flavor is excellent.[/quote']

I didn't get a chance to look into too deeply, but it seemed to be going for what's come to be the "independent game" or lighter rules set feel. (Only, well, 20 year too early.)

However, the flavor stuff should be campaign portable. :)

13. [image Attached]

I've mentioned the Game Store that Time Forgot a couple of times...

This time I took my camera, as you can see there's a grab bag of older Hero books of all kinds. All the stuff looks new, but it seems to have it's original '80s prices.

The owner seems willing to do mail order if you give an exact product number. I think Derek Hiemforth is the owner of a complete list of Hero stuff, so you should be able to co-ordinate that with the image if you want something.

Here's the store info... keep in mind that I'm not affiliated with it in any way and would be happy to edit this post if it violates board policy...
