  1. Re: What Would Your Character See? Prodigy was once a Templar knight and captain of crusading knights who since renounced killing. His greatest fear would be a reenactment of the sack of Jerusalem, with his own bloody hands wielding the sword that hacked through the bodies of all infidels and unidentified prsons with no regard to age, sex, or combatant status. While Prodigy did participate in the campaign, he was busy during the actual sack and did not kill noncombatants. As commander of those who did, however, the innocent blood still cries out to him in his nightmares.
  2. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith BTW, as I understand Treb's position, he feels that the priests are the perpetuators of the system which they profit from as part of the unsacrificed.
  3. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Since my PC is a Mentalist who will not kill or allow it under any circumstances, I can only speak for what Prodigy would do. He would, however, mind control or even peform permanent psychic surgery to prevent bad things fro recurring, so he is pretty ruthless in his own way.
  4. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith How do you know that the consequences weren't considered? It may be that the heroes decided that the price to stave off the unproven consequences is too high. So an individual accepting negative consequences is a noble and good thing while a civilization refusing to accept the deaths of innocents and being willing to accept the consequences of those actions are not a good thing? How will that be decided? A vote? "We all decided that you must die to preserve us. Sorry." "Oh, well. At least it was fair and democratic."
  5. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Nexus, you are missing the point. The race is not what is being viewed as evil. The system which requires that the world or civilization be watered in human blood is what is considered evil by those characters. Not confronting evil is not being heroic. Super Philosophers, Super Sophists, Super Observers the party who does nothing may well be, but not Super Heroes.
  6. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith I am afraid that you seem to be using the term moral superiority for any belief in absolute morality at all. Moral relativism, IMHO, suggests that any person can justify any action as long as it results in personal pleasure or gain. Even ifthe team arriving on the world does not know what is going on, dead is a lot mre difficult to fix than not being dead, so if someone should wait for more data, it needs to be the ones performing the irrevocable action.

  8. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith My PC wouldn't be swayed in the least. The immorality is clear. Our characters would likely seem as gods to the locals and our demanding a sacrifice in order to no wreak the havoc and destruction we surely could would impart no guilt whatsoever on whom ever prevented the sacrifices because we intended to go through with our threats. Likewise, even a Galactic Champions level entity which demands human sacrifice as a god would still be evil and ultimately that entity would still be the one culpable for the negative consequences to the world population. Our team would consider themselves responsible for stopping the "punishment" by the supposed god as well as helping clean up any mess caused, but to Prodigy, as you posted "It is wrong and we'd stop it."

  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings Don't forget the music. Artist: Eagles Album: Hell Freezes Over Title: Get Over it I turn on the tube and what do I see A whole lotta people cryin' 'Don't blame me' They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves Victim of this, victim of that Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat Get over it Get over it All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash But you might feel better if I gave you some cash The more I think about it, Old Billy was right Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight You don't want to work, you want to live like a king But the big, bad world doesn't owe you a thing Get over it Get over it If you don't want to play, then you might as well split Get over it, Get over it It's like going to confession every time I hear you speak You're makin' the most of your losin' streak Some call it sick, but I call it weak You drag it around like a ball and chain You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown Got your mind in the gutter, bringin' everybody down Complain about the present and blame it on the past I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little *** Get over it Get over it All this *****in' and moanin' and pitchin' a fit Get over it, get over it Get over it Get over it It's gotta stop sometime, so why don't you quit Get over it, get over it
  11. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith I will simply respond that as we are both parents, we both probably understand that we can love our children and still allow them to make their own decision, good or bad. It does not mean that we don't have a contingency plan for when they get it together and decide to come back into the family. Without free will, there are no good choices or love. Your approach would require God's creations to be pefect in their actions as well as God.
  12. Re: WWYCD 101:A question of faith Prodigy is an immortal born in 1000AD and one of the founders of the Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem and a formerly ardent crusader who has since renounced denominationalism and all killing of human beings. He is, however, still an ordained priest and a Christian. His power set is mainly based around a 95 point psychic VPP. Prodigy would do all in his power to prevent the success of the sacrifice. He has actually thrown himself on the altar and taken the knife intended for a sacrifice leaving him with one BODY at the end of the phase, but he was conscious. Since his own actions were with the intent and hope that he wouldn't die and the belief that physical death is not eternal for a follower of the one true God, he would not view his action as remotely similar to the populous of the world in question. As one who is educated in and a part of Christian history, Prodigy is well aware of the false claims that the faith is one of human sacrifice as opposed to the true nature of the faith as one of resurrection and rebirth. Giving up physical comforts and prosperity is a small price to pay for the salvaion of innocent human life and the immortal souls of the inhabitants of this world, the opposition by the vested interests in the status quo. The relativistic sophistries of the so called savants intent on justifying their own ennui, intellectualism or hedonism would be moldy old stuff to Prodigy.
  13. Re: The Kid Gloves Are ... on? I gotta go along with buying the appropriate Martial Maneuver. Bricks with 40+ STR usually break important important stuff when they punch, whether they intend to or not. Making it difficult and expensive to pull ones punch doesn't seem far fetched if you want to control the damage any. Martial Artists can do STUN only strikes just by buying the appropriate maneuver and other characters can certainly do it by using the appropriate SFX and modifier. It seems reasonable to me.
  14. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER >>Jonesin' shivvers<<< Nnnno, mmmman, I can quit anytime I want to. I jjjjust don't want ttttto, man.
  15. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call See I was going to use Jim Carrey as Seeker. Bogus Ozzie accent, ridiculous costume, more ridiculous background. Always getting his butt kicked. He's a natural.
  16. Re: Too balanced Agreed. Game melieu and background must kick in here. If the individual run over by the tank is a mook, he is fertilizer, otherwise that is when the dice and roleplaying kick in unless you want the tank to be instantly fatal, or practically so, if shock and bleeding out are ignored.
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Can't get this outta my head. Take my love, take my land Take me where I cannot stand I don’t care, I’m still free You can’t take the sky from me Take me out to the black Tell them I ain’t comin’ back Burn the land and boil the sea You can’t take the sky from me There’s no place I can be Since I found Serenity But you can’t take the sky from me…
  18. Re: Musings on Random Musings You are such a fangirl about Firefly, Alice. I mean that in a good way.
  19. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I loved the movie "Serenity" so I finally broke down and bought it as well as the entire series of "Firefly". Last night I finally sat down to watch the pilot. Wow. On one hand, I am really sorry I never watched the series when it was playing. On the other, I am really happy I never tried to get into it in midseason because the pilot is so integral to setting the tone and direction for everything else. I finally understand the fan base of the series. It is great SciFi.
  20. Re: Musings on Random Musings I agree. I thought there were some excellent points brought out on both sides and a general consensus not to demonize the supporters of the other position. Archermoo and Megaplayboy brough up some good stuff. Bummer.
  21. Re: The cranky thread If you can hold out for upper management, you get to change the toilet paper rolls and plunge clogged toilets. It apparantly isn't in anyone else's job description. They are willing to wait for maintainence people to come do it but not if it delays them taking a dump before they get there.
  22. Re: Musings on Random Musings I knew it all along. Just as I did with Kara and Rachel.
  23. Re: Affects Solid World Well, yes, sometimes unpleasant topics just have to be aired out.
  24. Re: Affects Solid World I am reminded of the movie Ghost, in which Patrick Swayzie's character could affect the physical world but only within certain limitations and only when focused or emotionally charged. Thus, given that Desolidification is not a real world ability, it seems illogical to determine the way its physics must work according to normal science. In the whole context of fictional characters with imaginary powers, construction SFX time seems a little late in the game to decide that real world physics be inflexibly and perfectly followed. I also think there is a fundamental game philosophy difference at work here. Some players seem to want to be able design characters that the GM is helpless to keep from unbalancing their campaigns so long as the player can point to the construction being legal. That simply is not a wise course for any GM to permit, IMHO. Unbalanced characters or abilities not only mess up the GM's campaign but generally seem to ruin the game for other players whose characters seem unnecessary.
