I just had this really goofy idea. I need some soldiers for my fantasy game. I have a bunch of AD&D character cards, which list the NPCs' hit points, armor class, etc. They usually don't list the attributes, so instead of rolling them, I'll take a character I rolled up for the Traveller system because of the military service track. The problem is that Traveller uses 2d6 for stats, while AD&D uses 3d6. So I'll use one of my MERP products that has a conversion chart to adapt systems to the module.

Sweden ends a 200 year policy of nonalignment going back to the Napoleonic wars to join NATO. This is absolutely devastating to Putin’s dreams of empire reconstruction, and in my opinion a huge success for the safety and stability of Europe in the face of Russian expansionism. It’s also a repudiation for military adventurism as a political tool. 
 
Good news in my book. Sweden is no joke, Finland either, when it comes to their military contribution to the alliance. As a deterrent force, NATO just got stronger.

Biden just gave the best State of the Union speech I've ever seen.  And I've seen many.  Amazing energy level throughout an 80-minute speech for a man who was supposedly "too old". 

So popped into town to post a letter and transfer some money to my mum's account. Had a look at one of the book shops called W H Smith and they have a 3 CD set. Siouxsie and the Banshees rare broadcast recordings. Never saw this advertised. It must be mine ! An now it is.
Popped into M+S and they had oodles of scones so I bought some. The drought is over again.

In other Washingtonian political news, three initiatives pushed by Republicans have cleared our Democrat-dominated legislature. Majorities thought they were good ideas, or at least popular ideas. While we have our right-wing wackadoodles, we do still have a few Republicans who still try to present a somewhat sane alternative to Seattle liberals.

Biden and Co. have surprised all of us with how much farther they've already gone than what anyone expected. Some have credited the influence of Bernie Sanders for that. But I don't think we should discount what they may still accomplish, particularly if the Democrats gain control of both houses of Congress. American society is not what it was four years ago, or eight years ago. Perceptions of the urgencies in the world have evolved, perceptions of American society and politics have evolved, and a new generation is entering the voting arena.
 
I've lived through quite a few anticipated crises that never materialized, or were ameliorated when we finally found the wisdom and will to do so. I refuse to throw in the towel over a possibility, because the moment we give up is when we definitively lose.
