  1. I know it's not Marvel, but there is, in fact, a comic series where the DC universe and that of the Warner Brothers cartoons (which are both owned by the same conglomerate) intersect. Now admittedly Elmer Fudd on a mission to kill Batman is odd...
  2. It looks like the Kree have weapons that can crack the planet open like an egg, so why don't they? Earth is certainly annoying enough. And if there are all these powerful entities seeking to destroy the Earth, eventually one of them is bound to succeed. It's like the Coyote problem. The Roadrunner can beat the Coyote time and again, but the Coyote need only win once.
  3. Q; Anyone know where out probe is? A: Your assertion that you deserve a future is ridiculous!
  4. Q: How did shrinking that Borg warrior go, Captain Janeway? A: No, Q, I won't wear the nightgown you got for me. I never wear nightgowns.
  5. I see and respect your point about the knee-jerk reaction. I don't want to believe I personally am capable of a deed like this. It is fortunate that most people are not.
  6. This is terrifying and sickening. The beliefs that drive things like that are inhuman, and I agree with Old Man that this-- this monster -- not be given the forum he claims to deserve. This is Anders Breivik all over again. Next time I go to the Temple I will have in mind the questions this event raises, not just about this world but about my place in it. (I should note that I was tempted to use a certain b-word to describe the shooter. I refrained, and think we should too. Nobody chooses the circumstances of their birth, and nobody should be disparaged for the circumstances of their birth. Comparing these people to this monster is unjust, and I will not do it.)
  7. Q: I have the Greatest Vacuum Cleaner on Earth! Anyone doubt me?: A: And I suppose you think that gun of yours frightens me. Well, it does. A lot. Will you please put it away so we can get something done?
  8. "Beneath that cold exterior beats a heart of pure stone." "I've got this shocking pain right behind the eyes." "Have you considered amputation?" "I have never understood why it should be necessary to become irrational in order to prove that you care. Or indeed why it should be necessary to prove it - 'at all'."
  9. Q: And how did that Styx album really end? A: With parts made in Japan, I am the Modern Man!
  10. Because their security detail (including Birmingham police officers), in spite of its numbers and the intensive training they received, were unable to prevent this person from getting onto the pitch in the first place. Nobody but the payers, coaches, and game officials have any business there. That is why the team will be (and should be) punished -- the security measures were in place to prevent this very situation and failed utterly.
  11. My thoughts: It was good, but not spectacularly good. That's OK because Black Panther set an impossibly high standard and I knew going in that this movie wasn't going to meet it. That said, it played to tropes. I am upset that it has been getting hate from "fans" simply because of the casting. Which is not at all fair, and to put it bluntly sick. Random commenters on Rotten Tomatoes are not gooing to decide whether I'm seeing a movie. I leave getting opinions on film; to the people who see 100 movies a year as part of their jobs. And Brie Larson was fine. And when it did play to tropes it played to them well. Of course, the Kree turned out to be that bad guys. That was something I expected but was still surprised when it happened. and the Skrull (the ones who were sent to Earth at least) were not entirely blameless for their actions. They had to do what they did, I'll give them that, but inspiring paranoia isn't a great thing to do. It reminded me of a somewhat about average Doctor Who episode, and the Skrill makeup was terrible. Still, I enjoyed it. It wasn't a night at the movies (or a Cinemark club ticket) wasted. Again, Black Panther set an impossibly high standard for superhero films. I remembered that, and never expected Captain Marvel to meet that standard.
  12. A game in England's second tier of professional soccer was interrupted when a fan raced out of the stands and sucker-punched an opposing player. Jack Grealish, a midfielder for Aston Villa, was attacked by a supporter of bitter rivals Birmingham City, who blew kisses to the crowd as he was taken off the pitch. The "fan" faces a 17-week jail sentence, a lifetime ban from Birmingham City matches, a ten-year ban from all soccer games in the UK, and a fine of 300 pounds (almost $400 in the USA). Grealish was not seriously injured and scored the only goal of the match to secure a 1-0 win for Villa. But the attack has shocked and angered almost everyone involved with professional soccer in the UK. Pundits have suggested measures like Birmingham City playing all their remaining matches in an empty stadium (a punishment referred to as "behind closed doors") with no spectators allowed in -- which will clearly be a large financial blow to the team. There has also been talk of taking away points, reducing their place in the standings, or forcing relegation of the club to the next-lower tier, Even Graelish agreed it could have gotten worse, especially if the attacker had a weapon.
  13. "Gondor has no King. Gondor needs no King." "I wish the ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened.: ‘”Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.’”
  14. Is David Tennant as good a Scrooge as Alan Young was?
  15. " How 'bout a bunny? They're cutesy and wootsie and quick as can be! "Cutesy?", "wootsie?"... Have you even met me? "I read all about the prediction of Nightmare Moon. Some mysterious objects called the Elements of Harmony are the only things that can stop her, but I don't know what they are, where to find them... I don't even know what they do!" "The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide". "How did you find that?" "It was under "E"!" "Oh."
  16. "Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes! They've got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses! And what's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway? Bunnies! Bunnies! It must be Bunnies!... or maybe midgets..."
  17. "I am the Doctor -- whether you like it or not!" "Try to stay out of my way, in future and in past. The Universe should be big enough for the two of us -- just..." "Unstable? UNSTABLE?!?" "Is the Doctor sane?" "Sometimes..."
  18. While I agree that the duration of Harper's deal is borderline absurd, I can see why the {Phillies made the investment. Last year's team was better than it had any right to be, despite not ending up in the postseason. Adding and building around Harper might give a young ballclub the push it needs to finally take flight. I would have hoped he had stayed with the Nats, but I can't fault his desire to get paid. As far as salaries, I don't think the major leagues need a cap so much as a floor. The sport has a long history of penurious owners not caring about the product on the field and avoiding paying players what they deserve. The modern way may be to accept being bad for a few years in order to build for a future of competing for the championship, but a few clubs like the Marlins aren't even trying. And that's bad for the game -- VERY bad.
  19. I hope he takes the message this time, as opposed to shopping his services around the various minor-league operation trying to succeed now, No NFL team will want anything to do with him unless they are desperate to sell tickets, and it's clear that the game has passed him by. The main thing for him now is to simply not do anything so stupid that it gets him in prison.
  20. Robin and Starfire as a team (they're already a couple). Kitty Pride (the "kitty" who walks through walls from the X-Men, and no Lockheed doesn't count!)
  21. Most FLGS have to diversify and scramble to remain in business, much less profitable. For example, Portland's Guardian Games has one of the best play spaces I've ever seen -- lots of tables, -available snacks and drinks, the occasional special event, and an area set aside where people can buy beer and drink it while playing their games. I love the place and have occasionally bought RPGs and card sets there (usually for Munchkin). That said, they can't carry a massive selection of RPGs. Their net also includes children's board games, family games, adult games like Cards Against Humanity, wargames (not a huge section, but with some very good games), miniatures (a lot of Warhammer gets played there), and even t-shirts and LEGO figures. They also have a corner of the store devoted to buying and selling Magic the Gathering cards (and a lot of CCGs get played there). I do love that store. They also go to conventions, and I will buy from them there when I have money to do so.
  22. Although I resort to that, I have made my own pizzas using dough from my bread machine. That may not be the best way to do it, though. The machine doesn't have a specific setting for pizza dough, though, so I'm sort of stuck. The only pizza chain I use regularly is the take-and-bake of local chain Papa Murphy's. Their Cowboy Pizza is very tasty (pepperoni, sausage, black olives, and mushrooms). No frozen pizza is ever going to be quite that good.
