  1. Re: The Authority:What the heck? Since a friend of mine is really into The Authority I get to see most of the issues for free. They really are a mixed bag for me. I like the art, some of the story lines are intriguing, but allot of the mood is just annoying. I mean they really want to them to be "right". re:Alternate Earth 666 where Superheroes were so clean cut they refused to kill their opponents. And were slaughtered to a man for it.

  3. What are the community standards of the board? I have a character coming up in my LA Knights thread called Prism. In her picture she is clearly nude, but there is nothing exposed (bands of light cover all her bikini areas), but I don't want to offend anyone or violate the standards of the board.

He banked on his good looks and charsima to charm anything he wanted out of anyone. Particularly, lovely, lonely women. He felt it a fair exchange. He gave them romance, nights of passion and bittersweet memories of their affairs with a dashing prince or European millionare. In exchange, he took a bit of their time and a great deal of their money. What he did not count on was one of his conquests being a Viper Nest Leader. Hell truly had no fury like her's. She had her men capture the errant Sergio and brought him to her lair. She decided she'd keep him, but he needed some "improvements." Thus began a series of excruciating surgeries, drug treatment and cyborg augmentation. Sergio was surprised his survived. At times he wished he wouldn't but in the end he was want she wanted. A perfect, loyal bodyguard and lover with superhuman physical prowess. And a miniature bomb in the base of his skull. It was just luck (which was one of Sergio's strong suits) that saved him. During a battle with the fledgling LA Knights, Mobieus dimensionally displaced Cavilier. And subsquently forgot about him. He languished in Null Space for days before the odd being brought him back. By that time his "Mistress" thought he'd been killed. Lillian's people were able to remove the cortex bomb (or so they said). With his new found powers, and no where else to go, Cavilier agreed to work on her team, earning a honest paycheck for the first time in his life. It's a feeling he decided that he likes. And the women love a superhero even more an the Prince... Cavilier is a bravo, braggart and womanizer. He's also a surpisingly likeable man with a clever wit and a quick ready smile. People tend to like him, enjoy his company and trust him. Whch made him a truly great con man. Sergio loves women, both in the physical and romatic sense. Even those he takes for all their worth, he on some level loves. He is extremely relunctant to physical harm a woman and this old school chivalry can come across as sexist to modern sensibilities. "Come now, don't you think there's a much more civil way to settle, m'lady?" Cavilier is strong, fast and incredibly resilant. Threw means of implanted cyber technology he has superhuman strength and heighted speed and agility. His internal systems and drug boosted physique allow to operate at near peak efficency for hours on end and heal from almost any injury that doesn't involve major tissue loss. In a fight, he typically picks a suitable opponent and slugs away, using his knowledge of savate and superior abilities to win the day. Character created with Hero Designer (version 1.48)

He died in a lab accident caused by overwork and desperation. Marcuss was a brillant but unstable researcher, driven by his theories on zero point energy and its capacity to revolutionize the world. So far, his research had lead him no where. His funding was dwindling, his career was a shambles. He'd given up his relationships with his wife and child in return for a dream that rapidly turning to ashes. So, he tried one last desperate experiement. His generator surged to glorious life. And exploded, instantly vaporizing his facility in the Nevada desert. In that instant, Karl Marcuss ceased to be and something else, formed from the remenants of his awareness, but bathed in the primal energies of the universe was born. The being called itself Mobeius. For a time it lingered near the ruins of the facility, but eventually fragmentory memories drew it back to Los Angelos. He, or more so it appeared to Lillian Andeavors. She was able to sway the considerably powerful being, convince it that it was Karl Marcuss. She hoped to harness its power for her purposes and, with such in mind, has steadily begun to try and recreate her former associate though part of her has long admitted he is gone. Mobeius' persona is surreal. He is distant and aloof seeing little value in humans and their possession. Everything is a scientific curosity to him/it. He lacks, and in fact, doesn't understand most human motivations. He has no need for food, drink or only an intellectual need for compansionship. There are still some fragments of Karl Marcuss within it and they sometimes emerge as a turn of phrase or a mannerism. These little glimpses of humanity just make him all the more disturbing to be around. He odd affection for Andeavors is based mostly on old mermories and a certain respect. Her intelligence actually approaches his own, unlike most of the oddly talkative apes that surround him. "This planet is less than a speck dust at the far end of a backwater of one possible Universe. Why do you hold it so dear?" Mobieus can bend space to his will in nearly infinite ways. He can teleport himself and others, create explosive shockwaves, distort space and distance. His powers are limited only by his intellect and his intelligence is quite vast. In battle though, he tends to get distracted having almost no emotional investment in winning or losing. He cares nothing for his "team" nor the individuals they are fighting for and may grow bored or interested in some unknowable "something". People with teleport or other powers that involve spatial manipulation will fascinate him.
  6. Re: Presented for review:The LA Knights Background:Richie Turner was 12 when the headaches first started. Blinding, pounding migraines that would send him to bed for hours, laying in the darkness in unspeakable pain. His parents, naturalists and "hippies" rejected pretty much anything modern and tried to treat him with home remedies to no avail. The only things that helped much were the small rations of "painkillers" (various narcotics) which at least dulled the pain. Then, things started to move when his headaches struck. Small objects, then larger and larger objects until a virtual storm of destruction followed in the wake of Richie's "migraines". The naturally shy and withdrawn boy was even further otraicized because of his condition. Ironically enough, he retreated into science and books, scorning his parents naturalistic ways. Perhaps motivated by a sense of guilt, his parents doted on the boy, homeschooling him and giving into his technophilia. So young Richie grew up on the internet, developing a both a healthy technical skill and a appreciation of Domination/Submission sex in online Chat rooms. This is where he first met Lola Feloni. She knew a sub when she met one. And she knew talent. Lola nutured her relationship with Richie like a prize rose, creating just the right mixture of need to impress with co depedendence. She convinced him to leave home and move in with her, scored the drugs he needed and drove him to put his electronics talent to use in the buisness world. When Andeavors begun her quiet search for "potential" among her employeesm she stumbled across Richie. And his illegal tampering with her company's finacial records and under the table sales of company secrets. Given her forceful personality and Riche's susceptibility to powerful women, he crumbled. Like his girlfriend, Andeavor's recognized talent. His skills and powers were useful so she made a deal. She allowed him to use his abilities, including getting her biomedical department to come up with a cocktail that controlled his pain (at the cost of making him morbidly addicted. Insurance.) and use of her facilities to create devices to augment and assist his powers. And he joined her "team" as Longarm, the invisible Hand of Justice.

  8. The LA Knights are the products of the closest I've ever gotten to an Iron Age game (along with another PBEM, the New Sentinels). They are a group of gray "heroes" formed mainly for vengence by one one woman, Lillian Andeavors. She was the widow of a wealthy CEO who was murdered for refusing to kowtow to Viper. Lillian took over her husband's buiness interests and used his vast resources to hire, and in some cases, created a team of superhumans then used her media savvy to have made into the heroes of Los Angelos. And a effective barrier to Viper's plans for the West Coast. I am updating these character to Fifth Edition and posting them here for review and hopefully for use. I have the Hero Designer files if anyone wants them. They are fairly powerful (IMO) but the players were very good about no abusing their abilities (well, not too much), particularly Sin and Mobieus.

Purchased by cult that worshipped the demonic Yozi, she was honed into a kiling machine to serve them and their otherworldly masters. Harmonious never questioned the rightness of her cause, killing those her master bid until one day her target was much better protected than she banked on. Only her sudden Exaltation allowed her to escape and return to her master's alive. She hoped they would help her understand what had happened to her. Instead, frightened by her transformation the cultists attempted to sacrifice her to the very Yozi she'd so faithfully served. Harmonious god given powers were greater than even they suspected and their living weapon escaped once more. Now, Harmonious Jade still kills for money. Its the only trade she knows. And a very profitable one at that. But she seeks to find out what she has become. And perhaps to atone for the deeds she's done in service to her treacherous masters Personality: Harmonious Jade is a hardened killer. She is cool under fire and remorseless. Outside of her profession though, she can be remarkably naive. Her childhood, such as it was, was totally removed from the ordinary. She is driven to discover just what her Exaltation means and what she has become. Powers:Harmonious Jade is an archer practically beyond compare. Being Chosen by the Unconquered Sun has only increased her ability. Now she can channel her Essence into her weapon to make her attacks even more devestating, striking down her targets with Solar Fire. Her magical Short bow is already extremely powerful. Combined her innate magics there is very little it can't strike down. Jade's natural stealth skills are also enhanced to a supernatural level allowing to become nearly invisible, undetectable and to leave no scent. Appearance: Harmonious Jade is a beautiful, small framed woman, dark skinned woman. She has gymnast's build and model's face and keep her hair bound in dozens of beaded braids. These are tightly bound when she's working but allowed to hang free otherwise. She ususally wears a black metal breastplate edged with oriachlachium over white or grey silk shirt and loose baggy pants with a pair of sure footed soled boots and black belt. She keep a her ornate golden bow and a large quiver across her back when on mission and fine edged knife tucked in her belt. Quote: "I do not claim to know everything about your city.   18. August 12th, 2004. The day the Universe changed. The Earth is bathed in a white light, a light so intense it peirces even the most heavily shielded rooms. For a second the world is blinded by the the brillance. And then it was over. Nothing seemed to change. Time passed, people moved on and the "White Event" become a trite holiday based on a peculiar anomaly. Now it is 2008 and the true effects of the White Event have begun to make themselves known. People are appearing with strange abilities and powers. Powers ususually attributed to the Gods or figures of legend. You are one of these new beings, or a "normal" person struggling to cope with a rapidly changing world. What will you do with your new found abilities? New Universe is PBEM using the Champions Fifth Edition rules set. It is not purely a "superhero" setting, but a game that attempts to explore what people would do with superhumans powers. As such, character generation is slightly different. Character background is important. The longest anyone could have had powers is 4 years. So far, no one has come forward with their new abilites. Characters will be vreated as normal people first. Base Points: 50 Disadvantage:50 I will create their powers based on the player's description. Most abilities will be fairly limited and more "realistic" than seen in most superhero comics. If you are interested in this setting/style of play, please submit a character. Then it got kind of old and I realized most of them where nothing more than a bunch of self righteous murderers and borderline psychos that were only "better" than the people they fought by a slim margin. A margin created by the fact it was "their" book and the Wildstorm Universe is dark in and of itself. The part I always found ironic is that in many ways such Universes are as black and white as any Silver or Golden Age setting, just with different villians to demonize, more blood and more T and A. I mean really they're already playing fast and loose with civil rights, free speech and threats of dire violence against those that disagree with them. Hawksmoor pretty much gives the "F you" to the legal matter in his "State of the Union" address, depite the claims. So how, exactly, do you feel "vindicated", Wanderer? Because some people with similar political views to your own wrote a story that caters to them? *climbs down off soapbox*
