  1. Re: Join Team Freedom! Distictive features are definately a possibly. I would be willing to look at a character with a VPP, but I tend to be very harsh with them, only allowing them if there is no other way to get the effect needed.
  2. Re: Join Team Freedom! The Modern Everyman skills will do.
  3. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Which is way I didn't give you one. But it might help if you would stop with some of the political commentary yourself and providing "answers" for your PCs, which seem to add up to "They'll use their SUPERPOWAS!" and the problem will go away. You put your idea up on a public forum, be prepared for people not to agree with them. At least until you get the power to kill anyone that speaks out against you... Funny you should mention Superman 2. That is the first thing that popped into my head when the whole "beat down bush" train of thought started.
  4. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Wanderer, once again you basically come across like you've already decided (in true Four Color Fashion, I might add) that the PCs are going to win because they're "right". I could point out some of the errors in your assumptions, but it would lengthy and mainly pointless as I doubt it would make a dent in your certainity of righteousness. I'll ask again. If you want a "realistic" portrayal of such things and your PC are going to capable of just whipping up any miracle they need. Why not just introduce these things slowly with sowing global chaos in the process? Is the world you portray so endangered and close to the edge of destruction that it has to be rushed? Characters of this level, being essentially immortal you'd think would have some perspective. Most of the changes they seek to introduce could be peacefully done in a generation or so. There would still be ripples, but it not the tidal waves some global take over "We're GODS!" power trip would cause. It doesn't make your "radical idealists" seem very wise.
  5. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority To "get on a soapbox" is too make a speech, ususally of a political/moral nature from an assumed point of superority. Basically, to preach at someone. To answer your question, and ignore the fact that "Plesantville" (if I'm thinking of the correct movie*) was intended to be parody and Dark Angel relatively dramatic, neither of them is realistic. "Dark Angel" (and other cyberpunk tales) are about dystopias and worst case scenarios. They are overy negative as they assume the worst will happen and the most base will win out. That is a irrealistic as assuming the best will always happen. If examined closely many so called "cyberpunk/dark" worlds approach parody in their negative outlook. Cynical does not equal realistic. Like you said, Cyberpunk was an expression of fears. Fears are not nessecarily truths.
  6. Re: Join Team Freedom! All our available. Team Freedom is a different game. Please sent the character to me. I don't want to SPAM the board. I'll be evaluating the Mage submission in the next couple of days.

    Team Archetpes

Re: Team Archetpes Isn't that traditional layout of the "Sentai" shows like Power Rangers and Gatchaman (AKA:Battle of the Planets)? Are you a fan?
  8. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority If you don't want people to preach at you, don't soapbox at them. Word of advice, take it as you will.
  9. Re: Join Team Freedom! 1. They didn't happen. 2. Yes, they did, but alien translation tech made them less effective 3. Yes it does. The occult was primarely an area of nazi study and, as such, as been repressed in the current setting. Its not widely known that it works. PBEM boils down to, I send out a description of whats going on, the players post back their actions and we go from there. It is slower, I don't deny that but can allow for a greater level of detail and description.
  10. Re: Join Team Freedom! Thought I would upload a neat picture of Free Spirit
  11. In alternate world World War 2 stretched on for 20+ years. Thanks to the accquisition of alien technologies, the Axis almost marched to victory. Only fate intervented, creating a powerful heroine who came to be known as "Free Spirit" who lead the what remained of the allies to victory only to be struck down at the conclusion of the war by treachery. Free Spirit was lain to rest as a hero and the world moved on.... Or so it was thought. Now, 20 years later. Free Spirit has returned, awoken renewed from a regenerative hiberation. But she is not alone. The terrorist forces of the Invisible Reich have arisen as well, along with hordes of dark experiements and augmented super soliders attempting to other throw the World Council and bring about a twisted empire of Evil! Already super soliders such as Necro and Biohazard have begun their reign of terror, despite the effort of the reawakened Free Spirit. Team Freedom is a Fifth Edition Champions PBEM set in an alternate universe where the Nazi's almost won WW2. And they're back for a rematch. It will be a Four Color, fairly black and white setting with heroism and somewhat light hearted adventure as its focus. It will also deal with adult subjects and tend to be a little racy, so no one under 18 or that find such matieral objectionable should apply. Character creation: Base points:300 Disadvantes:100 Active points:60 Concepts taken:We have a Super man style brick (Free Spirit) Character should be fairly "simple" and straight forward. No aliens and "natural" mutants are fairly low powered in this world, products of Nazi experiements and enviornmental damage. Tone:Golden Age and Silver Age character would be most appropriate. Iron Age is possible, but would take some work. Characters should be willing to work in a group. Please send all submissions to Nexus@qx.net
  12. Re: A character for a game... I was wondering about the Expendable Lim on the Sheild powers. I don't think "Super Solider Serum" is tight enough for an EC, but that is really subjective. The character's damage classes and such are a little high for my Bay City Campaign, otherwise I'd offer you a slot.
  13. I am planning on doing a write up for "Christine" from the Stephen King novel of the same name. I wanted to ask, in the opinions of the various board members what would be the best approach. Writing up a car and giving it an AI "Brain" or writing up a fully fledged character and giving it disadvantages and limitation to reflect that, in many ways, she's a car.
  14. You are the first of a new breed. Better, smarter, faster. You've got the power and the skills. The world can be yours. If you've got what it takes to take it to those sad old Norms, the Raptors are looking for you! Redwood Academy:The Raptors is a Teen Champions Fifth Edition PBEM with a twist. You will be playing "The bad guys". The mutant juvenile deliquents, the freaks and outsiders. The students of Redwood Academy will be your rivals and oppsition. They are also PCs in another on going PBEM! Much like situation between the Xavier students and the "Brotherhood" in the X men Evolution television series. Character generation: Base points:100 Disadvantage points:100 Active points:40 Limited Powerframeworks Powers should reflect youth and in experience. These characters are teenagers and only recently developed their powers. Requires a skill roll, activation and other such limited are encouraged on all but the most simple and straightforward powers. Required Disadvantages:Social Limitation:Youth/Minor in some form Send all characters and inquires directly to: Nexus@qx.net
  15. Re: What are the most annoying player habits! I think I get the idea. And I hate to ask this. But... is Transform Female to Pregnant Female really Major? Of course the social and physical impact is Major, but so would be transforming Gender and I believe thats a Minor Transform (possible cosmetic). It has no real immediate combat effect (or much of oner at all for several days) and... Why the heck am I thinking about this this much...
  16. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Yeah, look at how easiler Martha Steward got off for example. But seriously, you didn't prove anything, You stated an opinion and backed it up with another opinion. Yes, there are flaws in the system, but nothing created by man is perfect. What would you prefer an anarchy where anyone can execute anyone else for doing what they define as wrong? Would you submit happily to some odd ball in a funny colored suit flying around killing people he didn't like because he said they were "evil" and needed to die? Only as long as he's killing people that you agree need to go? What if he comes for a loved one of yours that works at that polluting factory? Or you? No, we don't live in a perfect world and sometimes evil does go unpunished. In some situations, alot of evil goes unpunished. But I don't think people are innately bad because we don't live in a communal world were everyone's first thought of the greater good. That's not buman civilization that's an ant hill. But it does create an interesting idea for a "villian".... hm...
  17. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Pretty much anyway you cut it, these guys are going to be some of the most hated people on the planet. They are going to have their supporters, of course. But they are going to be going around murderering CEOs, blowing up factories and overthrowing governments. That's going to make for alot of widows and orphans. Soldiers of so called "legitimate" governments are going to be sent against them. And apparently slaughtered. People are going to be scared and fear quickly turns to hatred. People are going to lose jobs, their families will go hungry. They are going to resent these "saviours". On another level, people are just going to resent a group. Any group, no matter how well meaning saying "We are above you. Your laws mean nothing to us. And there's nothing you can do about it." Doesn't matter how well thought out it is or even how -true- it is. Folks aren't going to like it. A personal note, I realize in my posts I have been preaching. But this scenario and the way it was introduced felt more like a political rant than a question about a game/story. The original poster wanted a realistic response then seemed to resent, at least a little, when that reaction was approval. The air of smug superority seemed a little over done as well so I got emotionally involved.
  18. How about a Golden Age Authority? Wildcats or Shi?
  19. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Orginally, it was a "revenge" thing, but violence seemed to progress as the discussion went on to become the standard reaction to those that resisted or even spoke out aginst the new management. Or that was the impression I got. And this would be after diplomacy had failed to stem these "radical activist" the nuclear strike wasn't the first act of the government, it was last ditch effort. Yeah, there are alot of asses in charge. I want to see them not in charge. That doesn't mean I'd be jumping for joy over some super powered assses taking over. And you're right. They could easily terrify people into submission. Its worked before for people without super powers. That doesn't mean there would not be passive resistance. As for their power level, this hypothetical player characters have been described have been described as being able to withstand a full scale nuclear strike, possess Full Life Support, to have with in their means to not only defeat, but crush the combined military might of the world if arrayed against them and "beat down" any other super that dares mouth off to them. I think they're pretty much in the Dr. Manhattan/Superman league. That's going to put them pretty far and away from the Joe and Jane Normal. Even the Authority touched on this once or twice.
  20. Re: Why do folks that dislike Hero hang out here? Not many at all really, but I don't understand why there are any. Not trying to be elitist it just seems like a waste of energy. I don't like or play OGL/d20 games. I don't pop over to their fan boards or mailing lists and drop snarky comments and subtle (or not subtle) innuendo about my opinion of their system of choice and/or thinly veiled contempt for those that play it.
  21. Re: Phermones I agree. It looks sound. I have to say, sounds like a different sort of game.
  22. Re: Aberrant Conversions:Team Tomorrow For those interested in running a Team Tomorrow Hero campaign I would suggest starting at 600+100 Disdvantages. Disads shouldn't include any horrific non human Distinctive Features, dangerous psych lims (Casual Killer, Raging Bigot, etc) or Berserks (low frequency Enraged might be ok). Skills should include at least one additional language and some knowledges and sciences (the training includes a fairly through education), particularly a sciene relating to your powers, or use of them in creative, helpful ways.
  23. Re: Superhumans pulling an Authority Well, she's a jaded, world weary cynical sarcastic witch alot of the time, but she does seem did seem to have more of a moral compass than the rest of them.
  24. Re: Aberrant Conversions:The Teragen Looking back over these characters, I think I might have given the wrong impression of the Teragen as a whole. They can be "heroic" characters. You can easily have a character that is a Terat but wants to help baselines for reasons of noblesse oblige, compassion or just for kicks. You can have Terats that are heroes, but for their "people" but don't harm baselines out of hand. I would create Terats on 500 points with "Ascended" (those that have been thew Chrysalis) Terats being based on 600 with more DFs and Physical Disadvantages.
  25. Is it allowed to buy off a Disadvantage and apply a Limitation to the cost? Such as in my Kekko Kamen write up when I "brought off" her Susceptibility to the sight of muscular guys with a focus limitation and Nuiscance effect? Or is that just a house rule of mine I've mixed up with an offical ruling?
