  1. Re: The Last Word Ahh, don't you just say the sweetest things? Teehee It's probably a catsuit, but who knows? I was just going through my pics and felt inspired... Teehee
  2. Re: Name help requested for an idealistic archer First ones I came up with... Apollo Straight Arrow Straight Shooter Thistle
  3. Re: The Last Word Did someone say bonk? Teehee
  4. Re: Animated Series Style Character Images Okay, that is one of the most intriguing character descriptions I've ever heard. Care to share?
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I just watched the "Squidbillies" debut on Cartoon Network Adult Swim. **NO SPOILER** It sucks. It has to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Not stupid, stupid's funny. It was just dumb. Not entertaining, not clever, not surreal. Just random not funny spoof of, umm, well, there was anime reference. Please don't waste your time. And it was done in that crappy flash animation that all of the Adult Swim original stuff is done in. Just dumb.
  6. Re: New To Hero: Character Advancement I think experience points in the HERO system are strictly secondary. I mean, in DnD your primary goal is often advancement, a natural by product of the level based system. However IME most players see exp almost as a surprise. "What? We get exp too? Awesome!" The charactre development isn't hinged upon advancement so much. I've known players who banked it and never spent.
  7. Re: Musings on Random Musings I know he was never one of the big guys, but it's still odd to see someone shorter than myself as a pro wrestler. I'm only 5-10 or 5-11, depending on who is doing the measurement. I had an inch, maybe two on him. Unfortunately, I've prolly got a hundred pounds on him, too.
  8. Re: Quantum manipulation I was working on a similar concept for a high point character. My route was expensive, but fun. It includes: Duplication Duplication, NCC, Only when no one is looking Teleport Teleport, NCC, Only when no one is looking Desolid Invisible N-Ray Vision Images, only to make mirror duplicates Note: All dupes have all powers (excluding duplication) The offensive power was the tricky one. I finally settled on some indirect explosions.
  9. Re: Are there ever too many points? Interested in posting them? I'd like to see your variations. Maybe it will trigger one for me Go for it The Fodder Dupe is what I was trying to avoid. I wanted dupes that were actual duplicates of the main character, but especially after I added the 0 phase recombo adder and multiple dupes, the maximum points for any dupe was around 350. That's nowhere near the prime duplicate. btw, what do you mean by "Castling" with your dupes? I have an idea, but not sure...
  10. Re: Are there ever too many points?
  11. Re: Are there ever too many points? I understand what you're saying. What I'm saying is that at 750-1000 points the characters tend to look like copies, especially with an 80 point cap that guarantees they have to buy numerous powers rather than get really good with a few. The "cosmic archetype" has flight, str, speed, invulnerablity, energy blast, maybe another type of energy manipulation. Sprinkle with life support and enhanced senses and voila! Cosmic hero. Sure, the personality should differentiate the characters, but I wonder how satisfied a player would be with just another flying-blasting-brick? Even in the comics they step on each other's toes.
  12. Re: Are there ever too many points? Who hasn't? There's a number of threads devoted to the most memorable awful concepts.
  13. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I saw Eddie Guerrero at the theatre today. Very cool. All I can say is...I'm taller than Eddie Guerrero! I wish I had his arms though!
  14. Re: Are there ever too many points?
  15. Re: Are there ever too many points? I very much agree with you there. Hard caps kill too many perfectly valid concepts.
  16. Re: Are there ever too many points? I guess that's the problem for me. I really like J'onn, but I don't want to play him. Nor Superman, Green Lantern, Captain Atom, the Silver Surfer, etc. My characters are more specific, more flawed than that. And while 350 is still a bit limiting to a lot of my concepts, 750 is just too much. 500 is about right, depending upon the game and the character.
  17. Re: Speedster Construct Question: One Man Starship Crew I like the skill levels idea, but I thought I'd try a couple other ideas just for the hell of it. What about an area effect TK with fine manipulation? Or a Change Environment kind of effect? I know they'd be more expensive, question is could they work?
  18. Re: Are there ever too many points? Well, I tried upgrading a few of my characters to 750 points, and I just couldn't do it without suffering from unnecessary bloat. In fact, I don't think I've ever made a character that could be done for that many points. Well, I do have this one brick character who could if I maxed him out, but he's wrong for Nexus' campaign anyway, and that's the challenge I was trying to meet. I actually thought 750 would be good for this duplicator I've always wanted to make, but the 80 point cap kills that, too. (750 with an 80 pnt cap is very odd. My archer could fit the cap, but maxes out around 600.) I should stress that I could make a character for that many points, but not one that I'd want to play. (Villains no problem.) Not yet, anyway. I'm still thinking on it...
  19. Re: Musings on Random Musings My dad's favorite response was "Well, people in Hell want ice water."
  20. Re: Election Day Special - The Best Artist In Comics I really think you give Byrne far too much credit. Byrne and Perez rivals?? Contemporaries, yes. Artistic rivals, never. If there was a definitive artist of the seventies, you can make a stronger case for a Buscema, Romita, or Golden. Some notable absences from your list: Art Adams, Kevin Maguire, Adam Hughes, Mark Bagley, Walt Simonson Then there are the controversial ones, the love 'em or hate 'em stylized artists, such as Larry Stroman, Sam Keith, or Bill Sienkiwicz.
  21. Re: Fixing Martial Artists What the...? You people haven't fixed martial artists yet?? Just what is going on in this thread, anyway? I better not go back and see any graphic flirting...
  22. Re: Favorite Rules of "X" ...pokey... Seriously though, I have played with these kind of rules and without, and I find that when they are in place they cause much more trouble than they're worth. You virtually guarantee that all characters will max out their attacks according to speed rather than building toward a concept. I understand what you're going for, but I think you'll find it counterproductive in the long run. I think it fosters at least slight resentment in the players as well. I'd be careful with def maximums, too. There are too many concepts that could be thrown out the window with that one. I prefer a benchmark system myself, where the players concept is compared to current benchmarks and characters. Once in a while a Superman-wannabe does pop up, but if that's what the player wants, why not? It can be worked with. If it's a problem, that should be nipped in the bud long before the final character creation. Just tell your players not to expect to do everything at once, there has to be some give and take in concept.
  23. Re: Musings on Random Musings Only in the way that you'll have a (hopefully) fond memory. Of course, if it were my dupe, it would be just two snowball's chances in hell of ever having sex again...
  24. Re: Charges on a Multipower's Reserve I just happened to be reworking my archer type character, and I wanted to try the charges on the multipower route as it works well with his sfx. Problem I ran into is that some of the slots are supposed to be continuing charges (darkness, acid, etc.)...ideas?
