  1. Re: The cranky thread Reminds me of a Mitch Hedberg line: "I like the UPS guy, cause he's a dealer and he don't even know it."
  2. Re: Musings on Random Musings Wow. I just...wow. The dedication is awe inspiring. I wish I felt that strongly about anything.
  3. Re: Musings on Random Musings Pardon my ignorance, but which thread are you referring to?
  4. Re: Musings on Random Musings  This kind of musing needs to be left to hot chicks only, and I am not a hot chick!
  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings In the past couple weeks I've decided that the superpower I need most is duplication. I have so many things that need to get done, that even superspeed or time stoppage wouldn't help. I just get that deer in the headlights effect trying to figure out where to start. And one duplicate would do nothing but exercise...
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings It's finally over. My tenure at Howl-o-Scream has reached completion. It ended on a good note, and I look forward to the day when I look back on it with fond memories. For the foreseeable future, however, I want nothing more than to forget it ever happened.
  7. Re: What graphic novels should I get? One not mentioned yet: The Golden Age (Elseworlds) by James Robinson, 1995 Also Justice League of America: The Nail by Alan Davis & Mark Farmer, 1998 Re: Crisis...get it. You won't regret it. Perez's artwork is magnificent, and the story is epic, even if some of it has been undone.
  8. Re: Fixing Martial Artists If I ever saw that happen, I would have to give up gaming forever. No moment could ever come close to that again.
  9. Re: What's *your* superpower? My real superpower: Disaster Repellent: 12d6 Suppress vs Natural Disasters Effects, all at once, Area Effect: Hex, Megascale 1"=10 km, No Range, 0 END, Persistent, Always On Distaster Luck: 8d6 Luck, Only vs. Natural Disasters I've always suspected it, but I had it confirmed during our recent spat of hurricanes. They were all supposed to hit me, and some did, but my immediate vicinity was left relatively unscathed everytime. Down the street could be a disaster, but I'd be fine. Hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes...I always narrowly evade them. You can see it's very expensive. that's ok, because I have a ton of disads...
  10. Re: What's *your* superpower? Hey, at least it works vs. someone!
  11. Re: Fixing Martial Artists DC Heroes had a similar problem. They came up with an optional rule called genre enforcement* that stated that certain effects could not exceed an amount of damage, no matter what the dice said. DC had open ended dice results, so a kid with a waterpistol could take out Superman if he rolled well enough (as our oft cited cliche went). When genre enforcement was being used normals could not punch through steel or similar. I think the reduced penetration is a quick elegant solution in this vein. *This is second hand knowledge from a long time ago, so I very well could be mistaken.
  12. Re: A Thread for Random Musings We were carving pumpkins tonight. I think a Green Lantern logo would work really well as a pumpkin, don't you?
  13. Re: Your father is WHO?! My first impression is that Dr. D is "beyond the need" for mere physical intimacy. Older, wiser, smarter, women's wiles would hold little interest for him and would only distract him from his ultimate goal. On the other hand, he is a power monger with the desperate need to exert that power, and sexual dominance is one of the classic power plays. That being said, he would never be so casual as to allow a mere woman to bear his child. If his kids aren't created in a lab, then the woman has been chosen specifically from a long list of possible candidates and informed that she would have "the honor" of carrying his progeny...or else. (The laboratory thing helps the campaign idea, though, because some of his donation could have been smuggled out, I suppose...)
  14. Re: Official Champs Uni = Marvel Uni? To be fair, All characters evolve and escalate. The FF have escalated in power as well. At the time of Doom's first appearance, Ben could lift around 5-10 tons, Johnny could only flame on for a couple minutes before exhausting his flame, Sue had no force fields, and Reed's inventions weren't dimension spanning yet. Compare early Thor, Iron Man, Cyclops, Iceman, etc. (And we haven't even touched Superman or Batman!) Doom's evolution is hardly unique or unwarranted.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I really don't care who voted for whom and why. There may have been a time when I did, but that was a long, long time ago.
  16. Re: Musings on Random Musings Oh bitch, bitch, bitch... But I guess you knew I would say that...
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I got post #1000 in the Sentence Game! Woohoo! Let's hear it for arbitrary celebrations!!
  18. Re: Tricky Power Design I may be misreading what you're after, but if the sword is mind controlling the weilder then the UBO doesn't feel right to me. The sword is still the one doing the attacking and the damaging, and the fact that the puppet is weilding it is a special effect. I'm thinking maybe a HKA with a limitation on the amount of STR added being limited to the puppet's STR.
  19. Re: The Big Arguments This one is one of my own personal gripes. Using desol or shrinking for this effect always feels kludgy and unnecessary to me.
