Where exactly is this "Print to PDF" option?  In the guide, it says it is "from the Current Character menu", but I see nothing of the sort in the drop-down box of Current Character.

"Print to PDF" functionality has been removed in a recent Hero Designer update.  It was a bolt-on feature from an independent developer, and there were compatibility issues with recent versions of Java.  You can use one of the many Export Formats available in the Downloads section of this website.

  2. 400 TON DONOSEV- CLASS SURVEY SCOUT

Note:  Not my design. Found on web.

    spacer.png

The Donosev class is the workhorse of the Imperial Grand Survey. Its task is to continually re-survey star
systems and worlds within Imperial space, updating maps and maintaining navigational beacons.
The heart of the ship is the survey module, which is usually manned by four survey specialists. The spacedock
normally carries three air/rafts, a 50-ton modular cutter with lab module and a spare fuel-skimming module. Survey
operations are carried out using a combination of on-board sensors, long-range probes, and cutter overflights. The
ship is primarily designed to work from orbit, but some lab space is set aside to handle geological or biological
samples. The survey scout is almost never armed, although in dangerous regions the ship can easily mount four
turrets at the cost of four tons of cargo space.

Unless I missed something, 6e does away with inches, not hexes. Hexes are rooted in old boardgames and used hexes for whatever distances required. Agreed, use whatever scale you wish. Howabout 1"=1million miles? Wow, those range modifiers are going to be harsh.

From 6E1p20: No More Hexes: The HERO System no longer measures things in “hexes” (or “inches”). Instead, it just uses meters. This means changing the way Movement Powers and some other elements are noted on the character sheet (for example,  Flight 20” becomes Flight 40m) and also has some effect on certain costs and calculations (such as the Area Of Effect Advantage).

That leaves hexes/battlemats and scale up to the players/GM.  Hexes are still useful for combat and mapping, they're just no longer part of the official rules.

Maybe I’ve missed something that everyone is seeing in 6e. Where is the 1 hex=1 meter scale coming from? On 6e2 p.15 it suggests 1:1 or 1:2, or whatever else is appropriate, but doesn’t set 1:1 as default. In fact, characters are assumed to be 2m tall, so I assumed (perhaps wrongly?) that a hex was still 2m. The rules are careful to explain that measurements are in meters, but don’t set the default scale. Is there a particular passage I’m missing?

6E does away with the concept of hexes and inches and just uses meters for movement, distances, weapon range, area of effect etc.  Feel free to use whatever scale you wish for hex maps.

Yup - there was a lot in there to support JRuby and the gems for PDF functionality.

I also cleaned out some old APIs that were no longer in use (from the days of the v2 to v1 converter).

Will there be an update to the User Manual, removing the PDF section (p. 32)?

  6. Hi Dan.  I deleted my existing Hero Designer folder and unzipped a fresh install of the Jan 02, 2020 build into my Home directory (Ubuntu 16.04).  Ran it as always from the command line (java -jar HD6.jar), opened an hdc character which previously printed OK with older HD versions.  Print error generated as above.

I fixed the bug with equipment in the 1.6.1 build (currently in review on the app stores).

Sorry but I totally forgot about your request for cost and quantity... I'll add that in now so I don't forget again :P

Thank you.  If it isn't too much trouble, while you're adding Cost and Quantity, can you include the "Weight" field?

Good news, kinda.  I was able to reproduce it.

So basically, this is an issue with the production build but not the developer build I typically run.  There's a "warning" that pops up for me when opening a compound power in developer mode that I was ignoring, it's a minor one... at least I thought it was.  Warnings don't usually cause a crash to desktop like this but this one sure is :)

I'll get it fixed for the next release... probably sometime over the weekend as my work on supporting 5th edition characters is going faster than I thought it would,

    Great news! Thanks.

Where are you loading the character from?  Drive or local?  Have you tried switching up the load location?

It's probably not related but I have had similar reports from people in the past with regards to issues with loading characters.

I will dig into this tonight with Android Studio and see what I can do.  All I can do there is try to emulate your Droid and see if it breaks.

I tried loading it from local directories.  Documents and Downloads.  Crashes when opening Compound Power equipment.  Tried loading from microSD card.  Character doesn't load at all.  MicroSD card formatted as exFAT if that matters.  Thank you for all your help.  I will try it on my tablet later.

    One last thing to try:

    • Remove the character from your loaded characters by long touching his slot icon (while another character is selected)
    • Delete your character by touching the trashcan
    • Verify he's really gone by going to HEROSystemMobile->characters on your local device filesystem
    • Go to the "Characters" screen and touch the "Import" button
    • Select your character again
    • Load him into a slot in the Hero Designer character viewer

I created an on disk cache of characters recently to manage multiple characters, it's possible that you keep loading a stale version in.

Thanks, but this was the first time loading this character.  I've been loading the hdc from my Documents folder.  Should I place it in HEROSystemMobile->characters and load it from there?

Interesting, looks like I missed a source of resistant defense.  I think the point costs work out the same to buying a naked advantage so it would seem it is functionally equivalent.

I'll add it to my list of bugs :)

If you open the HDC in Hero Designer, you will see that they are Characteristics purchased as Powers.  0 additional points of PD/ED purchased with Resistant (+1/2), checked box "Add Modifiers to Base Characteristic".  3 CP Real Cost each.

It's weird that the cost of the two powers is 0 as well... do they cost 0 in HD too?  Do they show up as part of your resistant defenses in HD on the characteristics screen?  I know if you buy them as a naked advantages it will work but it will cost you some fraction of the points for your PD/ED which seems fair to me.

I would check myself but I'm at work :)

0 points of Resistant PD (applied to Primary Characteristic only) costs 3CP.  Same for Resistant ED as calculated in Hero Designer.  They show up in Resistant Defenses on the characteristics screen and in the PDF export.
