Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Tonight I'll be watching many of the Toho giant monster classics on TCM starting at 8. They'll be showing classic 50's and 60's style Sci-Fi films all month long every Thursday night, and some of these films haven't been seen on TV for years. Just thought some folks might want to try and catch them while they can.

Sounds like something Dracula would be in the mood for. And that one meal -- they boil the poor fruit bat while it's still alive? And "they are also carriers of disease". Now I see a fruit bat going down for the third time like that one trooper in Dog Soldiers: "I hope I give you the runs!"

Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Why send the Three Stooges against the Cthulhu Mythos? Because you can't drive someone out of their mind when they have no mind! I believe the pie-fight scene between the boys and the Deep Ones would look a little bizarrre, though.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? That really is a great cartoon, isn't it? And it had some of the best-written characters, with my own favorites being the Trio (Finn, Ratso, and Chou). Heck, how often do cartoons give the villain's flunkies a character arc?

Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Now that I see it, I'm actually surprised Toho never tried to do this back in the day. The closest they ever got was when Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster got released on a double feature in America with an Elvis flick -- Harum Scarum, I think it was. This was around Thanksgiving, and the ad campaign ran to the tune of, "The Beat and the Beast for a holiday feast!" No, I'm not that old, I got it off the commentary on the Ghidorah DVD.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I admit to liking it for being one of the very first Godzilla movies I ever saw on TV. And the slapstick fight between Godzilla and Rodan is pretty good.

The original Japanese version is better; sadly, it's just good enough to be "average", whereas the AI version can reach "So Bad It's Good" on several occasions. Like with the inserted footage from cheesy 50's American dinosaur movies and what looks like someone's high school science project of how the Earth was made.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Please tell me that film is as awful as I remember, what with the whole "Undead Radioactive Vampire Deep Ones" idea. And I seem to recall a scene where the URVDO's invade a girl's slumber party and we see them devour the nubile maidens, complete with buckets of B&W gore? Or am I remembering some other film?
