  1. Re: What character concepts make you cringe? LMAO!!! Now THAT has style! I don't mind borrowed concepts, I just can't stand cloned ones, especially when the guilty party invariably tries to vastly overplay the most negative personality traits of the character. J
  2. Re: What character concepts make you cringe? Sorry, I should have clarified a bit! I don't really concern myself with characters trying to be "original", because virtually nothing is. It's the little danger sign that goes off in my head when someone tries to play Wolverine (in particular, and many others in general) that I'm talking about. You know, the one that tells you "He wants to kill everyone in the game and miraculously avoid any consequences, because it's 'just a game'", RIGHT BEFORE he says, "I wanna kill stuff!!!" Naturally, different "clones" have different reasons behind WHY said player wants to play the specific character in question. but it always seems to boil down to doing whatever they want to in-game, and damn the game. J
  3. As both GM and Player, I've seen several recurring themes (especially for Champions) to which my automatic, knee-jerk response is "No! Frikkin! Way!" The most common? Retractable claws, Regeneration and an "Unbreakable" Skeleton. Hmmm... Gee, THAT'S originality at its BEST... What others have anyone else here encountered? JT
  4. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #63 Get him to "join the Team and fight crime", while basically keeping him out of harm's way or causing unnecessary damage. Make sure he faces a lot of tough (i.e. nearly impossible) challenges in in the danger room. Let homesickness do the rest. JT
  5. Yes, my natural inclination toward the simple (special effect) solution will probably win out, though I wasn't familiar enough with FRed yet to realize you COULD buy Flight with No Turn Mode. Thanks; I try to learn something new every day! Or at least learn more things than I forget every day! Thanks All for the help! J
  6. I've found swords are good for that, too! J
  7. Do surprise and/or other modifiers affect Ego CVs? J
  8. Any reason NOT to use Leaping this way? J
  9. How would (or has) anyone built the ability to Leap, "bounce" off one or more objects in the flight path, and change direction? I've considered Flight with a limitation such as Must Start, End and Change Direction in Contact with a Surface, but I'm not sure you can change hex facings more than once per hex via Skill Levels in Flight. Even so, that option would require a lot of skill levels, especially when getting into longer distances. Any suggestions out there? Thanks, J
  10. The only drawback to this approach is having to buy all attacks (and the ability to communicate) as Affects Solid. J
  11. How about... EB, Explosion, Trigger (only when END Reserve is filled), Personal Immunity (that'll make him feel guilty ), No Concious Control, Only Full Power. The End Reserve value should exactly match the END needed to fire the attack at maximum value. Then, limit the Absorb so that it only absorbs damage above a certain value (15 Body, more than 1/2 PD, etc.) The blast can be delayed by Increased END cost, while still having the END Reserve bought to the level needed. 12. A more real-world approach to the question of sign languages would probably be to treat them as having a 2-point similarity with their associated spoken languages; close enough to get a cost discount, but not close enough for an untrained person to "pidgin-out" what's being said. Quite apart from the difference in senses used (sight vs. sound), there are also significant differences in syntax. Braille, on the other hand, IS just another form of literacy with a known language. John T I'm not making this up. I'm married to a Linguistics Major / Graduate ASL Master.
  13. Not having gotten 5e yet... ...is there any reason you can't buy Clinging, Usable Against Others, Damage Shield? John T
