  1. Re: I made the GM cry.... My favorite song, too! I've been called "Bastard" 23 times in one night by the same person. I've had players mutter "f***er" at me off and on for two hours. I've had empty Gatorade bottles and plastic cups thrown at me. I've had players walk out of the room, twice, trying to regain their composure, or recover their courage, or gather their wits. I've gotten characters to take actions, based on vague prophetic visions of dire future events, that have GUARANTEED those events came to pass. It's fun to be Evil! John T
  2. Re: Dependence: A useless Catagory of Disads? Yeah, I'll buy that, though food isn't an ideal example; takes longer to die from that than lack of water or sleep. John T

  4. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? So far, only MC fits the bill, as it was the only one blasted flat in the canon CU storyline, and thus the only one that needed to be rebuilt. Might do a slightly lesser rebuild for Miami, which in our campaign universe suffered a similar, but lesser, catastrophe back in '89. Corath, the self-styled "Demon King" in our campaign world, breached the barriers between this dimension and his in the middle of downtown. Not pretty. John T
  5. Re: The "Other" art thread Oh well, so much for this idea. At least I can say I had the coolest looking art on this thread! J
  6. Anyone here remember the I.C.E (I think) Shadow World fantasy setting for Hero/Chart Master (forget what that silly system was ACTUALLY called...)? I remember it had a very complete word concept, but not much else about it. It's one of the (many) games I created a character for, but never actually got to PLAY. Oh well, just askin'. John T

  8. Re: Code VS Killing Poll That is SO wrong! John T
  9. Re: Dependence: A useless Catagory of Disads? One thing you could consider is getting more mileage out of the Weakness and Incompetence effects by making them cumulative, i.e. 10 points for -2 on SRs or -6 on Chars, 15 pts for -3 or -9, etc. I also might consider increasing the value of the time increment field by 5-10 point, but no more. FWIW ($0.02) John T
  10. Re: I made the GM cry.... Knew a GM in Tucson like this. One of his fetishes was NPCs he'd gone to the "trouble" of naming, especially the bad guys. Heaven help his group if they actively tried to kill one. First, it was virtually impossible; they'd damage the guy to the point where they'd start asking "How much damage have we DONE?", and start doing the math... and realize that he was grossly fudging the situation to keep "HIS" bad guy alive. Then, when "the game was up", he'd "let" the guy die... and inevitably take his frustration and annoyance out on the entire group later. In spades. Repeatedly. Guy was a Petty, Tyrannical Sadist of the First Order. And hell had no fury like this guy if you succesfully deviated from his pet storyline... not that THAT was easy, either. And no, it's not like his players deliberately went out of their way to disrupt "his" game, at least not until they realized where they stood in "his" game. He was just a prick (pardon the language, but I really don't have any other applicable term for him). I asked one of his players, also one of my players, "Why do you put up with this sh*#?" He just shrugged. I don't get it; I'd've jettisoned the dead weight a LOOOONG time ago. But, as David Lo-Pan once said, "You were not put upon this Earth to 'Get It', Mister Burton." Oh well. John T PS - My wife just reminded me what this twit's name was (I didn't go to the effort of remembering for myself): Rex. Go fig.
  11. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Not even sure (at the moment) where the paper itself is, though I'm very sure I still have it. Will probably see if I can find it this weekend. John T
  12. Re: Code VS Killing Poll I'll have to see if I can scout it up. Knowing me, I've got it stored amid my other gaming resources somewhere. Thanks! Illustrator is my friend. I wonder if there's a market for unique message board avatars? John T
  13. Re: I made the GM cry.... I just LOVE it when a good plot goes *POOF* right before my eyes. Mostly because I tend toward heavily multi-layered plots in which having something like this occur is the can opener for more worms. I don't go out of my way to keep the players from "winning"... I just like insuring we'll all never be bored. Ask Slim McCoy about some of the BS he's had to deal with in my games, sometime. John T
  14. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Seeing where this thread has gone since I last looked at it, waaay back in post #360-something, made me want to dig up a research paper I did at NMSU back in '86. In a nutshell, I studied Evil as an empirical concept, rather than as defined by an observer. Fun stuff. Obliquely relevant to the discussion of (super)heroism in that I had to spend some time deifning "Good" by the same means. John T

  20. Re: Code VS Killing Poll *shrugs* Whatever floats the boat, I guess. It only means something to the people who choose to be offended, something I've learned to do less and less with experience, practice and the occasional lost friendship. He may, indeed, be here for that purpose. Having not met him, I'm not really qualified to say. I don't agree with the narrow and unilateral definition he places on the subject at hand, and his espousal of that definition may seem arrogant or deliberately offensive, but being offended is the choice of the listener, not the speaker. *shrugs* I choose not to be. 22. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Well. As I interpret Dust Raven's post, he states that he finds "it" (i.e. that definition of "Superhero") limited and childish, not you. Most people IMO (myself included) define a Superhero as "a Hero who has super-powers", not "a super-powered person with a specific set of moral values that (among other things) precludes them from ever killing someone". Relax; it's just a game, these are just opinions, and generally speaking no one is here to denigrate anyone else's beliefs. John T
