Egyptoid, delighted you liked the Nutmegger -- and he and I are both honoured to have been admitted to the roster by EO of the President! But I'm on a roll now; I'm not trying to make life difficult for you with these additional CT heroes, but this 50 States concept -- and the Portuguese Hero-Maker -- is just so NEAT! I really don't want to stop...(and the excess heroes can always disappear into the Historical Pages if unwanted).

Re: Heroes from All Fifty States Nobody knows why Connecticut has always been the Nutmeg State...but here's a hero who's proud to be the Nutmegger! Nutmegger is the son of a Connecticut dryad, or "tree-woman." He has no idea who his father is, and adopted the name "Tom Bedlam" from the old English songs about the mystical madman Tom o'Bedlam. Nutmeg is Tom's birth herb, and has influenced his appearance, powers and abilities. Tom's skin is orange as the fruit of the nutmeg, his eyes are green as its leaves and his hair is the brick-red of mace, a seasoning made from the skin of the nutmeg nut. Nutmeg -- in large quantities -- is a hallucinogen, producing visual distortions and a mild euphoria. Tom's powers as the Nutmegger echo this theme, with his ability to create mental illusions, hallucinatory landscapes and "tricks of the eye" effects, ranging from subtle to gross. He also has an Ego Attack customized as a distracting Burst of Euphoria. As a half-blood dryad, Tom also shares his mother's ability to communicate with and control plants. He can speed or stunt the growth of plants, exaggerate certain features (like thorns or tendrils), entangle opponents/objects or create barriers of vegetation. Tom can affect already-existing plants, but to ensure that he always *has* plants handy, he carries in his belt pouches a variety of nuts and seeds, ready to spring to life when his power releases the plants inside.

But I'd prefer to see a more interestingly-named Connecticut hero called: "Nathan Hale" -- Connecticut's native son and State hero "Fundamental Orders" -- Connecticut's first constitution, adopted January 14, 1639 "Nutmegger" -- "The Nutmeg State" is a persistent unofficial nickname for Connecticut "Prudence" -- Connecticut's State heroine, Prudence Crandall, a Quaker schoolteacher who was the first White in the nation to teach Black students; "prudence" is also a word meaning discretion, economy or caution/care with regard to practical matters. "Corsair" -- the Chance Vought F4U Corsair, celebrated carrier-capable fighter aircraft of World War II and Korea, created by naturalized Connecticut resident Igor Sikorsky (Egyptoid, I'll see if I can work some of these up this weekend. But in the meantime, anyone/everyone is invited to give them a try.)

As the result of either a blessing or a curse by the Niúachi, Jude was magically transformed into one of the Itcex'hi, the Horned Water Panthers...though despite the name, the creatures were actually nothing like panthers (except in their ferocity). Jude's new form was a monstrous blend of fish and human, strong, tough and practically immortal, with huge unblinking eyes and trailing whiskers that would eventually lead him to nickname himself "The Catfish," and later, "The Bagnell Catfish."

NC: Kitty Hawk (I've always loved the name, and it seems only appropriate that the hero from the "First in Flight" state should be a flier; plus, the wings in her pic are quite wonderful.) IL: Supercollider (My husband's a nuclear physicist...what can I say, I'm biased toward the radioactive! I like the bulbous, disturbingly organic-looking armour, though l'm not thrilled with the stark yellow face.) MO: Bagnell Catfish (Hell's bells, he's distinctive, at least, and based on a Missouri tall-tale...and if I weren't prepared to vote for him, I shouldn't have submitted him in the first place.) ;-) While I think both Gateway Girl and Missouri Turbo are very appealling characters visually, and well-conceived and thought out -- I really like the set-of-twins concept that goes with the two Turbos -- there's a certain...generic-ness...that goes with being a red, white and blue State hero. Like many of the state capitol buildings across the country, flagsuits have a tendency to look, well, rather similar. Bagnell Catfish was my attempt at doing something a bit...different. Dig his long catfish whiskers! Of course, as a State hero, he may lack a little something in the dignity department....

The murky water at the base of the Bagnell Dam (a dam on the Osage River, which creates the Lake of the Ozarks) is reputedly home to at least one monster catfish, said to have eyes the size of a man's head. With that Missouri tall-tale in mind, I present one of the stranger 'Heroes of the 50 States,' the piscine-human hybrid and Missouri hero, "Bagnell Catfish"! QUOTE: The name's Catfish. Bagnell Catfish. Maybe I AM a Missouri monster, but don't call me MoMo!

Re: My superhero characters Robo- Wow, you have been working hard! I like your characters; yes, all of them. In particular, I'm impressed with your colour choices and combinations, and your hero/villain names. You may not play RPGs, but you've got a real flair for effective super-names! I especially like The Patriots. They definitely look like a team -- the matching theme, the names and colours -- and they have an authentic "heroes of the Greatest Generation" feel to them. I could see this group on the European front in WWII, or on the home front, defending vital industry or facing Axis infiltrators. Iron Eagle seems to be a bit of a departure, though; both his costume (I think it's the metal leggings) and his name have a sort of Teutonic ambiance. If The Patriots are intended as a WWII super-team, then I don't think Iron Eagle would be very popular with the public...and he might not have picked such a "Ratzi"-sounding name in the first place.

I notice you've generally chosen to go with the older Legion costumes for your pics; was that because they were generally simpler (read, "Easier to replicate"), or because you prefer them? Though Wildfire and Lightning Lad have more of a post-Reboot look...deliberate, or just the limitations of the Portuguese Hero-O-Matic? But even in the cases where you've had to tweak the characters' costumes a little (or a lot), you've still managed to produce recognisable likenesses of the Legionnaires. Your depictions manage to capture and convey the essentials; I'm impressed, and I'm enjoying the hell out of your posts. It's like Legion of Super-Heroes Christmas! Oh hooray for Brainy! Sex-ay. Just as an aside -- and no offense intended -- but Lightning Lad is a redhead, not a blond. (And his twin sister, Light(ning) Lass, is a redhead too, if you get to her.)

You know, between them, Element Lad and Brainiac 5 of the mid-70s managed to jump-start puberty for me...and initiate my life-long (so far, anyway) passion for men with long blond hair. (Of course, this was before I saw Cos in his "bustier"!)

Re: Query's Art & Stuff Thread One of the best action shots I've seen, Query (not just the best of yours, I mean the best in general). The action pose of the moving figure is wonderful, the way she seems balanced in motion, even with one foot lifted; she looks as if this is her snapshot, capturing her in mid-run. It's not just her feet and legs that contribute to the feeling of motion, either; her entire body seems involved in the movement, the effort showing in her arms, shoulders, chest...even in the set of her jaw. Yes, this is great fun, but it's obviously an EFFORT, too! The body is well-realised, especially in a difficult headlong pose, though I wonder if "Quick" is a bit too well-muscled. Women generally don't develop bulgy muscles, but tend towards longer, more streamlined ones...especially in the case of a runner. (Of course, both male and female sprinters tend towards bulkier muscles for that explosive takeoff, especially since they don't have to carry the weight very far. But distance runners, like swimmers, tend towards the sleek and sometimes sinewy look.) Within the limits of the medium, the face is very good, quite detailed and well-proportioned, even with that fiendishly difficult perspective effect. It is the face of a younger woman who's a bit of a gamin; isthis heroine in her late teens/early 20s and a bit of a tomboy? The "fourth-wall breaking" is extremely effective as a tool to convey incredible speed. The mischief and glee on the heroine's face make the Flash-wings on her temples seem almost like pointed ears, á la a sprite or elf...as if the girl herself is partly a fairy creature of some sort. I like this picture a great deal, Query. It's one of the few speedster pics I've seen that looked at all convincing, and not just absurd. Well done...oh, and Repped.

Re: Warpig! picture Hello, Dan. I've "Repped" your post for sharing this great pic. This is very well-executed and handles a difficult perspective well. It's also beautifully(?) detailed and conveys a powerful sense of the character's personality. Kudos on doing all three operations for the pic, the pencilling, inking and colouring; you're the original triple threat artist. Welcome aboard, and it's a particular pleasure to see a talented new artist (especially since I'd have trouble drawing an X).
