  1. Images have existed in the system since 1st edition Fantasy Hero (where the power was first introduced). It may have had a different name in 4e.
  2. IIRC non weapon/non Invisible Power effect things that a character lifts can be added to the Invis. Though it may take an active phase to do so. Attack Powers(Foci) without IPE don't become invisible. Though I would probably rule that an attack power that hasn't been activated doesn't become visible until used in combat. Where it becomes visible. 6e1 does a great job of explaining the ins and outs of Invisibility.
  3. It sounds very similar to Invisibility with the "Someone Elses Problem" special effect. Where the Person with invis is just ignored because the mind just writes them off as "Someone else's problem" so they are basically not remembered and not really noticed. (Thanks to Douglas Adams and his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series for this one)
  4. This paragraph seems to counter your last couple of paragraphs. Other characters may find creative ways to overcome a character’s Invisibility. For example, throwing a blanket over an Invisible to Sight Group character would reveal his position. So would trapping him in an Entangle, splashing paint on him, spilling liquids or powders on the floor so he leaves footprints, and so forth. Depending on the situation, the special effects, and similar considerations, this may allow other characters to attack the Invisible character at full OCV or -1 OCV. Though some of your post also seems to make my Danger Sense build more solid. Where anyone around 10m of the PC will have a chance to know if someone is sneaking up on them.
  5. I think that one secret was that he had more than one game that all tied into the main campaign world in some way. I looks like he had at least a dozen campaigns that he ran, but they were all part of the whole campaign experience. Heck, even his other reality stuff was tied into the Main Strikeforce universe.
  6. Wow it took you a year to comment on Chris's post... Nice thread necromancy Tasha
  7. BTW fully invisible people DO have ground pressure. So Invisible or not they should still trip traps (ie Pressure plate) break fragile surfaces etc. So someone invisible vs sound would still make a noisy floor creak, tear rice paper set down on the floor, leave footprints in the mud etc
  8. Some of this discussion suggests that Invisibility should be written up differently in the system. Hero is the one system that says "no Absolutes" ex Invisibility. Why not define Invisibility as a flat -8 to Perception vs all of the things you wish to be invisible for. "No Fringe" adds like another -4 to that. Then Detect Invisibility becomes a +8 to perception only vs invisibility.
  9. BTW Simple and to the Point is ALWAYS better. If you have to use a bunch of powers and have to hand wave the way other powers work. It's pretty clear that you are on the wrong track. Lazy is opening the book and pulling a bunch of powers out without really thinking hard about them. Well, first the OP didn't specify that others had to hear the crystal break. It's pretty easy to do that. It's just a bit expensive. Also the other things are easy to add as limitations. Since you want someone to do the work for you. Nothing about others hearing it, or that it must be a huge AOE. To make YOU happy I wrote it up to YOUR specifications. Here's the build below 48 Danger Sense (general area, out of combat, Function as a Sense), Usable Simultaneously (all targets standing within 10 meters of Grantor; +1 1/2) (85 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (Not vs Flying or gliding opponents.; -1/2), Limited Power Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (Works as a Hearing Sense; -1/4) 13-
  10. We should be reasoning from effect. Not trying to work from a power to the effect. The build is to detect someone approaching. How about 24 Danger Sense (immediate vicinity, out of combat, Function as a Sense) (30 Active Points); Physical Manifestation (Shattered crystal on ground; -1/4) 14- Tells you if someone is approaching and there's none of that "well invis does this or that bs". It does the job. I guess you could drill down to how DS is built as a Detect, but this is easier.
  11. While the questionnaire is very through, it doesn't need to be filled in completely. I like players to use it was a springboard for ideas. BTW the Lifepath that appeared in Champions New Millenium is also a great starting point for building backgrounds.
  12. I think that most GM's would be VERY happy to just get the questionnaire with lots of the questions filled in. Most GM's don't expect people to be novel writers.
  13. If you have problems with writing a background. Here's a Document that can help. It's not always possible to answer ALL of the questions, but thinking about them can help you have a better picture of your character. This wasn't authored by me, but I really respect the authors. ----- The 100 Most Important Things To Know About Your Character (revised) by Beth Kinderman and Nikki Walker This list came about when, one day while struggling to develop a character for an upcoming Hunter game, my lovely roommate Nikki looked at me and said something like, "Wouldn't it be cool to have a list of questions you could go through and answer while you were making characters, so you'd make sure to consider all sorts of different elements in their personality?" I agreed, and that very evening we sat down over hot chocolate and ramen noodles to whip up a list of 100 appearance-, history-, and personality-related questions (which seemed like a nice even number) to answer as a relatively easy yet still in-depth character building exercise. Later on, we went through the list again, took out the questions that sucked (because there were a lot of them) and replaced them with better ones. What you see before you is the result of that second revision. In the more recent past, we've also found that answering those annoying online personality quizzes in-character can sometimes lead to interesting revelations. When you find yourself sitting in front of your computer screen wondering, "Hmm, if my character was a pair of shoes, would she be stiletto heels, Nikes, Doc Martens, or Birkenstocks?" you know you're really getting to know her (or that you've become an even bigger geek than you were to begin with). Emode.comand TheSpark.com are good places to start. And, because I've gotten flames about it: No, we do not mean to imply that slavishly following this list is the only way you will ever truly develop your character. If you think we're boring, obnoxious, or presumptuous, just think about the questions you like, and you don't even have to consider the rest (yeah, we know it's kind of a long list). Or better yet, ignore us entirely and find your own ways to develop characters. Just don't email us specifically to tell us how much we suck. That only results in cranky gamerchicks. Some of these questions were stolen from the Character Questionnaire at www.roleplayingtips.com. Check it out, it's a really great website. - Beth Part 1: The Basics 1. What is your full name? 2. 14. True enough. Though they COULD have been bought as powers. Even though it would be silly to do so.
  15. Though it may be best to stay away from Racist stuff from the Past...
  16. I thought that the TV show "Powers" (based on the Comic of the same name) had an interesting take on Super Prisons. Having a Power draining field. Though their chaining the villain in the middle of the floor was not realistic (ie how does the person eat, drink and eliminate waste?). It also has a GREAT prison break plotline. Totally worth looking at.
  17. Regarding the OP, I think that every GM should take a look at every Ability build with an open mind. Also having a firm (but not totally inflexable) power cap can keep a lid on any real abuse of Ranged teleports UAA. at a 60pt cap it's pretty obvious that it's not as good as taking a Blast for doing damage. You can't TP foes into solid objects with the power. So IMHO it's not the problem construct that the OP hypothesized it was.
  18. Nah, Ross has a bajillion points spent on Contacts, Favors etc.
  19. BTW if Blonsky is only 90% human that he's less related to humanity than Chimpanzees. Chimps share 96% of our DNA. I am going to assume that the 90% number was made up and not from the movie. Also, even if he's 99% Blonsky, he might still test to be the same guy. They don't check ALL of the DNA for a match. Just places on the strand where they know there are differences between individuals. On top of that it also MIGHT depend on what they get his DNA from. IIRC they can test hair, and that might not show the genetic changes right away.
  20. I have a first printing 2nd ed Champions and that paragraph is there. People may have missed it because it was hidden in the doing damage section and not in the actual power writeup. Which is probably where that passage is in every edition of Hero that includes the power section. I think it may actually be in the Power section in 5th edition and later.
  21. DN does it's job well, but I have ALWAYS hated the actual mechanic involved. It is so very different from any other mechanic for defending against damage that it feels 'wrong'. I really hate telling players "roll 6 less dice of damage against this target". It takes away from some of the mystery of combat. It is still a useful effect for some stuff, but I don't usually allow PCs to buy the power on their characters.
  22. For folk who have quick instant healing I ALWAYS define part of it as Resistant Defenses with Hardened. Remember don't get caught up in your assumptions of what you THINK a power's special effect should be. That's backward thinking in Hero. You always should ask yourself what the Ability you are trying to model does vs the powers you can use to model that ability. Many Regenerators heal VERY fast and only very very over the top damage takes time to heal. So IMHO that lesser damage is handled by the Resistant Defenses. It's hardened because an AP round really shouldn't do extra damage in this case, most AP rounds would be EASIER to heal because they make less damage. Any leftover BODY Damage is take care of by the Regeneration over Turns/minutes or Hours depending on who's regen vs catastrophic damage you are modeling
  23. If you look at pg 63 of Champions revised edition (commonly known as 2e Champions) you will see a chart in the upper right hand corner that shows weapon damages and the equivalent Normal Damage. That was the first time we were able to infer that 1pip of Killing attack was 5pts, a Half Die (1/2D6) was 10pts, The full Die being 15pts. This is made more overt in the weapons section of Fantasy Hero First edition which had a similar chart but refered to the Dice of normal damage equivalent as "Damage Class" ie a Damage class 3 attack is either 3d6n or 1d6K. a DC5 attack is 5d6n or 1.5d6 Killing etc. It's pretty easy to infer that a power that costs 10pts per die cost 5 pts for a Half die. So you take your Drain at 10pts per Die, divide in half to buy a half die and multiply it by 10 to drain SPD which costs 50pts aka 1/2D6 Drain to speed. I Guess we always read between the line. Also the group I played with/learned to play Champions from were people who played with the Designers and the friends of the Designers. So honestly I can't tell you where I learned to do that. Damn it was like 30+ Years ago. The little stuff blends together and only the highlights (good and bad) are what I remember.
  24. I can buy half dice of Strength... And Killing Attacks have always had the 1d6 15pt, 1/2D6 10pt, 1pip 5pt breakdown (or at least since Espionage/Justice Inc), and all of the weapons charts. I guess we always assumed that half dice were available for all of the powers.
  25. Instead of 1d6 of SPD drain for 100pts, one could buy 1/2 D6 SPD drain for 50pts and still get 1-2 pts of SPD on average. Which will severely put a crimp in any characters combat style.
