  1. Of course that's not RAW. The books state that Invisibility does NOT make attack powers invisible. To the point of specifically mentioning that attack foci would be visible at all times unless they had Invis Power Effect. I would allow the PC's (house rule) foci be invisible until they are used. Then all of the 3 senses that the attack must be visible for would be visible. ie the Pistol would be invisible until it was fired. After it was fired the Flame coming from the barrel, Smell of the propellent and the Sound of the gun firing would all be apparent. I would do it this way because I would not want to give PC's a free IPE for every attack they have.
  2. Also arguably during the Reagan era and still during the Cold war. Also, they didn't actually react much to his accent. Major reaction would have them be arrested or some other big reaction. More like the reaction Chekov got when he was on the Enterprise (Nuclear Carrier Version) and was caught by the soldiers.
  3. Of course it's a feature of 3 pts of a language instead of 4pts. So an accent that is different from where the PC's are at would be distinctive, but would be easily Concealable, Noticed and Recognizable, though it would also be "Not distinctive in Some Cultures", though if the accent if from somewhere the PCs are unlikely to go or the accent doesn't have a community of similar speakers close, then it may not have that last subtractor. I guess it would depend on the campaign and the accent Most accents aren't going to cause a major reaction. Perhaps having a Russian Accent during the height of the "Red Scare" period or being southern in the north after the civil war (or vice versa). Again it depends. Always keep in mind a Complication is an demand for the GM to make use of the accent in negative ways.
  4. I would probably default to all environmental close to the person sound being invisible. Even if they were walking on what would normally be the noisiest floor in the world. I would have to rethink that for something that someone paid points for. We aren't really playing GURPS so realism isn't really that much of a consideration. Though I would give a PC the benefit of the doubt and probably penalize an NPC. Meaning that a PC that had a crackly surface AOE detect (ie like the other thread), I would rule in the favor of the PC (Though I would again probably suggest building the defensive power with Danger Sense UBO). If I wanted my NPC to sneak up on that PC I would buy Flight with Invis power effects. A NPC with the same power would not detect the invis PC walking. Again, I would write up the power differently to avoid the rules issue. which is the great part of being the GM. Yeah, I know that it's inconsistent. I tend to rule in the player's favor in circumstances where there's ambiguity. Because if I were writing a story, I would probably be a bit biased toward the Protagonists. YMMV
  5. The sheet over the invisible person making the person visible IS RAW. It's one of the Examples in 6e1. I even gave the page number above IF you would like to read what is actually there. Invis DOES work for all worn items (though it doesn't make visible attacks invisible). So the Cell phone would not normally be visible. My read is that Invis covers what is touching your body when you activate invisibility (which is implied with the example about the sheet over the invisible person). So anything that you encounter after that isn't invisible until your phase where you can make it so with a 0 phase action. So again the branches and leaves on the ground will still crunch when you apply weight to them and they break. same as if the person was at the end of a branch invisible and the branch broke at the tree 2 m away, which would make sound. As would every branch the PC hit on the way down. I would suggest giving the Invisibility writeup in 6e1 before you make more assertions about what is RAW and is not. As to whether or not Sonar would see the person invis to Sound would depend on if they spent 10pts on Invis vs Nontargeting Sound or 20 pts on Invis vs Targeting sound. Also this is RAW. Invis AOE is called "Darkness". Not being heard normally and not having other senses like Ultrasonic hearing not sense you is worth 10 pts, as is not having your feet hitting the ground make noise.
  6. Invisibility covers the sounds that the person makes. So yes their shoes would be silent, but not the effects of their weight on the floor or on the branches of a tree moving/breaking/making noise while breaking. To do that they need Desolidification and/or Flight with Invis Power Effects vs Sound. Though IF one can toss a sheet over someone who is invisible to sight and still see that person, it would stand to reason that an invisible person picking up an object wouldn't immediately make that object invisible too. It least not until the invisible person has a phase where they can extend their invis to cover the carried object. It's pretty clear to me that invisibility to sight would render the laser trigger unable to percieve the PC so wouldn't trigger the klaxon. A person invisible to sound only would still set off the alarm and would still cause the klaxon to sound. Now someone using darkness to sound would still set off the alarm, but the speakers that created the klaxon would remain silent while inside the darkness field.
  7. If they step on Leaves the PC isn't making the sound, the Leaves are.
  8. Not sure that argument would hold water. If you are invisible to sound, then an active (or passive) sonar sounding should not see the person. Sight works by detecting the light that reflects off of objects and from objects that create light. Sonar works in the same way and a targeting sense that uses sound waves works the same way. It's also the way that Radar Works. So invisibility to sound should include all forms of Sonar. I guess that it WOULD depend on whether the Player choose to take Invis to sound as a Targeteting sense or a non targeting sense. So Invis to non targeting Sound would be for all body sounds, steps, stomach growls, noisy joints, breathing, heart beats and other sounds that a body makes. IMHO it shouldn't make you invisible to noisy squeeky floors, or the PC's weight breaking glass, branches etc. because those things are due to placing weight on other objects. It's similar to someone Tossing a blanket over the invisible person. Which would render the person visible because of the cloth covering them (mentioned specifically in the book 6e1 pg 240). If you don't want your PC's weight to break things, then buy flight equal to their running movement with Invisible Power effects (HSMA mentions this build). Passive Sonar in the system is called Spacial awareness and it encompases many forms of perception that reflect various senses off of nearby objects ie Sonar, Telekinetic Touch etc
  9. As for Growth, it's was probably as good at it got in 5e. It's just that all of us fans, disliked losing all of the Stats and benefits from 4e and earlier. So Steve caved into our desires and added them back in and made the power cost enough to cover the extra stats.
  10. The Author of the Western Shores is listed in FH4e as John Brunkhart who also did the World building and the Setting Up a Fantasy Campaign Sections. My guess is that it was a version of the Author's FH campaign.
  11. So you guys had a "Dwayne Dibley" Campaign. Where IRL you were mega Heroes, but playing schlubs that were part of your hallucinations. http://reddwarf.wikia.com/wiki/Duane_Dibbley
  12. Of course ALL of the weapons you are talking about are OAF's so technically couldn't be used by someone in an entangle.
  13. Though Brass Knuckles are technically an OIF, I would still buy restrainable on them because they are useless when the user is tied up. So it would never be possible to use brass knuckles to break out of an Entangle.
  14. I have done a lot of work toward that end. With OCV and DCV being separate things you can really kill Dex without much issue. You base the skill rolls on either OCV or DCV. I tend to look at OCV as Hand Eye Coordination, and DCV being moving the body, and you can divide most Dex based skills into one or the other category. OMCV and DMCV are pretty easy to substitute for EGO. Overcoming Psyc Limits, Pushing End (ie active ego use) uses OMCV. DMCV is for defending so Getting out of Mental Abilities, resisting Presence Attacks etc. Con is a bit harder to remove, unless you just assume that any attack that does half the person's end Stuns the opponent. Str could just be a power, but I don't know if that is satisfying. You still need a stat for Lifting, something to denote how much weight a character can carry etc. Body is very baked into the system. The easiest answer is to keep it around. Though replacing it with a Hit Point kind of stat could also be interesting and allow for more granularity. Some of the damage system would have to be changed to accomodate this (the Way Fuzion did this doesn't work well IMHO). Int is another stat that I wouldn't want to remove. I like making players make Int Rolls, Using it for Perception checks etc. Presence Could be removed or expanded. It could become a limited version of Mind Control (it has similar effects if you really look at it). I would love to have an expanded Social "combat"/Mental Combat system that allows for more permanent effects. Though that would turn into another major change to the system.
  15. I really like the idea of HA being 3 pts pre 1d6. Using that as a base. You could just use the existing advantage to allow HA to be vs resistant PD or Resistant ED (I believe that's a +1/4 advantage). Count body as we do now. The ability to add strength would be a +1/2 advantage. The nice thing about this is that Killing attacks become more granular and you kill off all of the issues with Stun Multiplier. RKA's then become Blast with the same Advantage (and the same option of adding strength for the +1/2 advantage).
  16. I am really not sure what the draw to playing oneself is in a RPG. I play me every day. I play RPGs to play someone different from me who is a Big Darned Heroine. Character sheet or not, IMHO it's the path to misunderstanding and hurt feelings.
  17. I know it's not a book, but I HIGHLY recommend Hero Designer. It's a Java Character Gen Program. You can buy packages that have Character files from the various books. Just the program alone is a huge timesaver
  18. Does it get around broken twigs and rustling through leaves? The writeup in Invisibility doesn't give much about being invis vs touch. Just to say that you should be doing it with Desolid. Not sure how Invis makes you somehow weightless. Can you find the rule in RAW that backs up your claim or is this just on the boards houseruling?
  19. Remember that Invisibility vs Touch isn't supposed to be allowed. "(Characters should not normally buy Invisibility to the Touch Sense Group; simulate that ability with Desolidification.)" Because it causes this sort of weird edge case. Because Invis vs touch sets up some weird situations, ie why can't I feel when the invisible person hits me or touches me with an attack?. So you are all arguing about an edge case that a GM really shouldn't be allowing.
  20. It is one major difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. In Star Trek they actually did make up languages for aliens, when the aliens actually spoke a native language.
  21. Both tricks have been written up in System genre books as flight only in contact with surface.
  22. Also I will point out that place names aren't always taken from the Inhabitant's Language. ie Germany is called Deutschland by German Speakers, We used to call Japan, Nippon, Also sometimes names become mutated by when translated to another language or changed entirely depending on the translator's ability to hear and their biases. I suspect that Endor is the name given to the planet by the Republic which wasn't taken from the Ewok Language. Kashyyyk is probably a corrupted form of what Wookiees call their planet, There are thousands of years of history in the Star Wars universe. Also, unlike Star Trek Klingons, Lucas has never made any effort to turn wookiee howls and growls into anything resembling a language. So it's hard to know what IS and isn't a phoneme because there isn't anything consistant. Pretty much the same with any spoken StarWars language. It's all gibberish sounds with no real effort into making something that could be a language.
  23. though until fairly recently there hasn't been a ton of third party material available for Hero. Probably an artifact of them being owned by ICE for awhile and the Palladium vs WotC lawsuit. Pretty much all of the third party stuff was good. I can't think of a single product that was "Bad". The early PDF were all pretty decent products too. The later more modern stuff has also been decent to great. Depending on buyer taste mostly.
  24. I would think that Tom Clancy would be a good start though a bit dated. Ian Flemming would also be good also dated, but good for tradecraft. TSR's Top Secret can be mined for scenarios as can pretty much any spy thriller out there. Mission Impossible (TV show) again is dated, but a good resource for a ensemble spys kind of game. The later movies of the same name are more up to date and are also good for that. The show Legends while law enforcement related can be a good resource too (for deep undercover stuff). Aaron Allston's Boarder Crossing Adventure for espionage is also a good game adventure (Though written for very old edition of the Hero system rules). The hard part is finding stuff that includes multiple main characters and not just a single individual.
  25. re Nomenclature of Editions. We tend to refer products pre 4e as the first edition of that product. Because the rules were stand alone and not part of a unified rules system. ie Espionage, Justice Inc, were technically based on 2nd edition of Champions plus Champions II. Fantasy Hero 1st Edition, Danger International, Robot Warriors, Western Hero etc are based on Champions 3rd edition. Again those rules are all referred to the first edition of the product because of being stand alone. A good rule of thumb to differentiate between the two editions, if it came in a box and was staple bound it's 2nd edition (ex some copies of Champs 3rd ed). All of the perfect bound editions of games released before 4e are all based on 3e Champions, but don't require it to be played. 4e changed the Hero system into a Unified Rules system with Genre Books tied into that edition. So the products released during that time are tied into 4e to make the relationship to the Generic Rule edition clear. ie Fantasy Hero 4e is technically the 2nd edition of Fantasy Hero, but that's confusing because the product needs 4e Hero System to be used.
