  1. Re: Remember the Old Resurrection Debates? Er... the reason Adders are Adders is that they apply specifically to a single Power, or group of Similar Powers (Non-Combat Movement Adder). Otherwise we should figure out a cost and make it an Advantage. An Adder, by definition in my mind, cannot apply carte blanche. As for Summon on your Dead Friend - there's nothing in Summon that doesn't make them not dead. Body is sitting right next to you - voila! Summoned! still a body though.
  2. Re: Remember the Old Resurrection Debates? I don't see ShapeShift:Touch as a fudge, but then I don't translate "Touch Group" too literally here, I see it as ShapeShift:Physical Shape which is your body. . . I suppose the fudge is saying that your Physical Body is covered by Touch Group, but even then it manages to make sense.
  3. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... Absolute Effect Rule takes care of invulnerability quite tidily. And is utterly inappropriate the majority of the time. The Summon - actually that's really easy: Add Slavish Advantage, add Side Effect (Summoned Creature Turns On Owner When Task Is Completed; Major; Always Occurs). Hulk... I'm still baffled as to why a straight Multiform is an issue here; but I'm not even going to get into it with anyone.
  4. Re: Remember the Old Resurrection Debates? Well, there is a bit of an underlying flaw in some of the logic. Not that I don't disagree with the underlying premise - we don't need to model everything. But there is a Reason From Effect that takes place. Take the turnip - reasoning from effect we find that we are Changing Item A into Item B. That's Mechanically Transform. Summon, Mechanically is "take a Thing and bring it to me." What is Ressurrection - well, it's coming back from the dead. Mechanically that means you have to go from Negative Body Score to Greater Than Negative Body Score. Summon doesn't do that, at best, it's a Kludge to do that. If I have 10 Body, and get put to -15 Body, I need a Mechanic that takes me to at least -9 Body, and hopefully higher, before Recovery takes over Mechanically. From that we have a number of Mechanics to work with - Adjsutment Powers are the starting point. Then we move on to the fact that technically no Powers can be active or activated by the Character once your reach Dead. So we need a rule that says "except this Power, which works specifically because your are Dead" - hence a Mechanic was added to the Rules to do just that: Resurrection. Where to put it? Adjustment Powers are a good place, hey, Healing - an Adjustment Power designed just to bring a Power or Characteristic to its Starting Total. Summon was a kludge, and IMO a horrible one at that.
  5. Re: Just to prove I'm not a complete Comeliness Grognard You know... I see AA getting a lot of business from one of Oddhat's longer running campaigns...
  6. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... There's a Flight;UAA;Continuous in there for 8600 points that keeps everything 'up in the air' so to speak. In Steve's build at least. And a Drain to turn off the stars and other energies in the universe. This is actually where most of the points are. I'll concede - Steve's build in Digital Hero requires handwavium, but hey - it's a 7.5 Million point build - and really, even if it cost a total you could write down on a character sheet would you let a Player have it? Still... the underlying premise - is there anything Hero can't model? Well - no actually. It can model everything. Hero is a very transparent system, and that transparency allows prospective Groups use it to model their games, and even bend it to model their games. It is explicitely part of the system that the system can be modified to need. Even Narf's +1 Speed;Trigger to add a Phase instantly could be a valid build in some Game somewhere.
  7. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... There's an Adder for Telekinesis that allows that. I'm pretty sure it's in The Ultimate Energy Projector.
  8. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... EDM: Time Zone is a build from The Ultimate Speedster. There's a few additional Mechanics tagged in - and it's playable. Looking at Reason From Effect, what does Stopping Time do? Well, it stops everything. Mechanically, stopping/pausing everything is one of two things: Entangle and Suppress. And LOTS OF IT. Steve built a Time Stop power in Digital Hero that's some 7.5 Million Real Points....
  9. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... You can't add a Phase without increasing Speed. Basic principle of the Speed Chart.
  10. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... Hrm... I wonder what the value of "STR Adds When Used Hand To Hand"? Energy Blast; STR Adds To Damage When Used Hand To Hand (+1/2) sound about right?
  11. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... ha! I missed that too. And I hate it. You should be able to make a perfectly throwable blunt object.
  12. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... First part I agree. Second part - makes perfect sense. It's a great way to model throwing knives. Anyways - I disagree completely with the premise that +1 Speed;Trigger;Only To Add A Phase will actually let you randomly add a Phase. +1 Speed is +1 Speed, that changes your Speed. I consider that both an inherently bad model, and beyond even my acknowledged disregard for the rules at times. but - if your GM will let you do it, Rock On.
  13. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... Hummm.... you know, I'd used a Transform and a lot of Telepathy Dice (and here's the handwavium, but it's not lots), plus a really big Mimic Pool VPP that includes Skills, Talents and Perks (the handwave part). Certainly not cheap. But not too bad I don't think. Definitely not an easy build.
  14. Re: Finding something Hero System can't model... If you up your Speed you can't act until your current Speed and new Speed match. Adding +1 Speed is changing your Speed. There are two time stop builds. One it insanely expensive and involves a series of combined powers. The other is The Speed Zone EDM from Ultimate Speedster. I don't consider it that kludgey personally. As for Animals - you can model them as well as you can model real people in the system. i.e. they're modeled as easily and accurately as the modeler believes them to be.
  15. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Is it bad that I laughed first, then wondered if it was staged?
  16. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I can't Rep you again... dang it.
  17. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Inconcievable!!
  18. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far I've seen people aim at things... you're being generous.
  19. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far No, painted targets are a DCV 72.
  20. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? War, Inc. - Pretty funny, mostly predictable plot, but still kinda cool. Had some really good moments in it. Good way to burn a couple hours really. John Cusak plays an assassin with a change of heart - Grosse Point Blanke only not as well done. toss in the netflix cue for a funny war movie.
