  1. Good call, Lord Liaden. GenreFiend hasn't got back to us yet. Maybe after the weekend there will be some progress. Thought of a couple of synonyms for Zenith, if he wants to go down that route. There's Perihelion and Vertex.
  2. Don't forget the Marvel Boomerang. Dig that purple and blue costume with the boomerangs stuck to it. He took down the Hulk with a reflexerang (or something), once.
  3. Dove II (Dawn Grainger) is alive. This was only revealed very recently in JSA. That's the problem with superheroes, even years later, they can pop out of the woodwork. I'll believe Donna Troy's really dead in, oh, about ten years. There are lots of good choices listed here already. For some details on Scourge's crusade, try http://victoria.tc.ca/Recreation/Comics/SFiles.html By and large his victims were second stringers. Apart from the Teen Titans, the second division team the Global Guardians might have the highest fatality rate in the DC universe. http://dcworld.itgo.com/GlobalHistory.html Just remembered, Impala of the Global Guardians was revealed as having been killed in an issue of JSA (his picture was hanging on a wall showing heroes who had been slain in combats held for the entertainment of supervillains).
  4. You see, I type out all those questions and Hermit nips in and beats me to the punch.
  5. For some reason, the name that popped to mind was Mr. Wonderful. That was the nickname of wrestler Paul Orndorff, but I think it sprang into my head because of Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloan version). The character sounds like a real all-rounder, just as he was. However, it's a bit of an egotistical name, so maybe that won't suit. Do his gadgets have any theme? Does his costume have one? Is there a dominant colour? Do you want a serious name, or would a semi-serious one do (eg Blue Blazer)? What martial arts style(s) does he use? What ethnicity is he? How old? Any strong personality traits other than the ones you've mentioned (such as curiosity or a rather enigmatic manner)? Any particular hobbies or interests (such as chess, detective novels, ballroom dancing)?
  6. Many thanks to Hugh for doing this. In summary, a), , g) and h) have no significance to me, but they might well do to others. I think c), e) and f) explain why sales might be low, but not why WE haven't bought copies. For me, it all comes down to d). I am generally a bit nervy about this sort of thing, in particular the defective download problem, I'd also have to cram an Acrobat reader into my home PC (not a huge problem) and it would take a lot of effort to print off a copy (slow printer and very expensive cartridges). I've toyed with buying some of the 4th ed stuff online (Bedlam, Supermage), but just generally shied away from the idea because I want a hard copy. Same reason I don't subscribe to Digital Hero, when I'd snap it up if it were printed. I love Hero stuff; I just don't want it electronically. I understand that a lot of products are only viable in this medium. Looks like maybe they won't be viable in this medium, either. CDs would be preferable, but you'd still have the printing problem. I think cutting down on art and "bells and whistles" might be the way to go. This might enable a slightly cheaper product (no odds to me), but more importantly an easier document to download and print off.
  7. Thanks for letting us see those characters, zornwil. Some interesting ideas there.
  8. Some mistake here. I thought you were talking about boy bands. What about... Ugly One No Girl Ever Likes (maybe he's the tough one) Good Dancer (he might be your martial artist) The One on Booze and/or Drugs (? but possibly highly resisitant to pain and/or common sense) The Colossally Arrogant One Who Thinks He's God's Gift (hey guys, form a queue) Bitter, me?
  9. Ooops, bit late, but here's my offering. As to the camera and tracking device, they'ves already been covered. Don't forget though, that the card simulation device might also work on locks and alarms, so you might need Lockpicking and Security Systems skills as well. If it is just ATMs, then Computer Programming should do it.
  10. My suggestion is Taliesin. http://www.cyberphile.co.uk/~taff/taffnet/mabinogion/taliesin.html Perhaps Arthur knighted him for services to the court. The character you've described has some bardic skills (interaction ones). Could you persuade him to take a few musical ones too? Even if not, there is no reason this would have to be the original Taliesin (his son, perhaps), or the legends could have got it wrong (maybe people assumed he was a bard because he was so charming), or perhaps this is the "comic" version (rather like the Marvel Comics Thor lacks quite a few of the god's identifying features, such as red hair and his temper).
  11. I think Korvar's got it absolutely right. Focus on the core now and expand it later. However, I do like seeing interesting new characters, especially ones with unusual powers which you could adapt for your own characters. One of the problems previous editions of Champions had sometimes was boring, weak, poorly-conceived, badly executed, or downright wrong/illegal characters which are no help to anyone. While I haven't read it through, "Champions Battlegrounds" looks great. I especially like the Black Harlequin bit (but then I always liked Arcade).
  12. With only seven, you'll need to double/treble up a bit. Sky/Lightning/Thunder Earth/Agriculture/Animals Water/Rivers/Oceans and Seas Sun/Light/Fire Moon/Magic/Mind Love/Beauty/The Arts Death/Darkness/The Void It could be that the gods are revealed as different sexes in different aspects. For example the God of the Sky has a son called Thunder and a daughter, Lightning. These are avatars but also merely aspects of the central deity I'd suggest Sky, Sun and Death as male, Earth, Water and Moon as female and Love as androgynous (a little like how Hermes is sometimes portrayed). Alternatively, perhaps there is a missing god, of whom no one will speak, a destroyer, betrayer and trickster god (just to even up the sexes, but could provide all sorts of plot ideas).
  13. Spontaneous Combustion on the Increase Blizzards in August The Phantom of the Soap Opera? Stars claim to see shadowy figure at studio who vanishes from closed rooms. Lorry of Fish Heads Vanishes Handless Corpse Tally Rises Brownouts - Where Does All the Power Go? Bizarre Aztec Object Found. Professor says it proves they were visited by aliens. Mice Found on the Moon I Was a Teenage Senior Citizen Role Playing Games Forums Linked to Sleep Deprivation
  14. Sounds quite interesting, though. The PCs might end up almost as dangerous to the public as the criminals. Couple of things. Maybe they shouldn't dispose of the body. I assume they took it to identify her/find some clues. If not, taking it was really stupid. As many players opposed that act, maybe it was just dumb. However, no one seems to have much in the way of investigative skills. This could be a problem (also if you are going to run a serial killer plotline, which I think you are setting up). However, you've only given sketchy details, so maybe one of them has it covered. Can one of them break in to find out the autopsy results? Maybe Jake and Jesse together could pull this off. Alternatively, could the surveillance van's technology allow them to snoop on the autopsy as it's made, or could Kurt hack the computer system? I know it's down to the players, but maybe they need some help getting into this kind of scenario. At the moment, they seem to be a bit gung-ho, which won't stand them in good stead in solving mysteries! Did they even seem sorry that they got the hostage killed? BTW getting back to your original question, how about eventually having one involving a serial killer targeting priests or judges? Good way of getting the PCs directly involved. However, I think you might want to stick to a couple of "mop up the drug dealers" scenarios if you can't get the PCs to operate in a more careful manner.
  15. Call him Mr Happy or Mr Smiley. Nice contrast with the psycho personality. Big Man is good too, though. I'd do him as a bit like Deathstroke: The Terminator. His body and brain function much better than those of a regular person. I'd make him a demi-brick. Maybe a little like Bane, too. High characteristics across the board, including SPD. STR at least 40. Damage Reduction: He doesn't feel pain. His late wife shot him. He didn't notice. Bit of Growth (obviously). Maybe some Brick tricks, especially the "Rending and Tearing" HKA one (explains his wife). Very cunning, maybe with some kind of precognitive ability. How about Lightning Calculator, Speed Reading (2 levels) and maybe things like Absolute Time Sense. He uses his heightened (but deranged intellect) to stochastically predict things, but relies on available data, hence he may get things wrong. It is relatively easy to predict big market swings, harder to guess the performance of individual shares and difficult to know where his rival will hold a meeting. Also, he can use the "Body Reading" form of Telepathy, representing how quickly he picks up on people's intentions/predicts behaviour. (This power in the sidebar of FREd next to Telepathy, but I can't recall the actual power name). He knows where they'll run to, or if they will try and sneak attack him (ha ha). Possibly Martial Arts, but he strikes me as more like a brute force and animal reflexes type of guy. Same reason I'd steer clear of robotics. Just thought, he also reminds me of Mr Hyde (Marvel Comics or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen versions). Lots of KSs and PSs in financial related matters. I think his mistake might have cost him contacts, at least in his regular ID. Big Man/Mr Whatever, might have them, though. Basically, big, strong, tough, fast and cunning, with a frightening ability to second-guess opponents and events. See anything you like there?
  16. Don't forget the Morlock called Healer. A Wolverine type healing factor isn't really a psychic ability. I'd rationalise it as a very specific set of Telekinesis and Transform effects which have the effect of healing someone. Should the personality not be capable of external healing, as an expression of a mothering instinct? The empathy route could work well. How about Sarah, who worked at a hospital where David went once? She's a doctor/speech or physiotherapist/ nurse and wants to help David and others overcome their pain and afflictions. Lots of conflict with the Jack Wayne personality. Maybe she was stalked by Stanley, one of the porters, who harrassed her and eventually kidnapped and/or killed her. His is the Mind Control personality. He likes to play mind games and thinks of people as puppets to be manipulated psychologically, through fear, emotional blackmail etc, even if he doesn't use his actual power. He's a good actor and liar and may pretend to be one of the other personalities. He is a control freak, though, and reacts negatively to anyone who deprives him of freedom or autonomy. EDIT Sarah and Stanley were chosen as alliterative names. Stanley, "We were meant to be together. Sarah and Stanley, Stanley and Sarah. S S S S yes, yes, yes, yes."
  17. If you have a problem hero, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire..."The Eight-Team". Sorry.
  18. Some excellent points in the whole post. A couple of points spring to mind though. First, the monk pays character points to have the Iron Shirt Technique. Sir Justin buys his plate armour with gold coins. That alone might discourage others from doing this, but I like your other requirements; they definitely fit in with the level of expertise required to use that technique. I am not sure NND attacks are that useful in FH. Many are stopped by rigid armour or won't work properly on non-humans. Now, throws...
  19. The Pubmaster (see "Daredevil" for what I'm getting at). "Ha, Destroyer, you are no match for my paperclips and darts and thin..."ZZAP!
  20. Thanks. I thought there was another option, but couldn't recall what it was.
  21. 1 Hex is a good idea, but then it hits everyone in the hex. Unless you make it selective in some way. Then you need to roll to hit the target again! It's good for simulating lots of small thrown things in a hex, as Fur Face suggested. Not sure how fast he throws, but consider giving him Autofire options on his throwing multipower. I avoided Crackshot and Deadshot for just those reasons. You're right; it's a tough one to name without going over old ground. It might be easier if he had a particular signature weapon like knives or darts (but could use others, of course). Oh well.
  22. My Spanish is all but non-existent, but I think that would be Rey del Oro. Sorry if I've loused up there. Maybe someone can confirm/correct it. The literal translation (I think) is King of Gold, but I think that's how they would translate "Golden King".
  23. Combat Luck's "luck based" Limitation isn't the same as the version of "Requires a Skill Roll" which is based on Luck. Confused? I was until Steve Long set me straight. The Combat Luck Limitation is a summary of the things detailed in the Talent, eg you must be conscious and aware of the attack for it to work. I haven't got the USPD with me, so sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree hee. Or just plain barking. CvK. Didn't Seeker have a big sword and an Autofire RKA, but a Code vs. Killing? It's awkward because some characters regularly use attacks (even EB or HA ones) at levels which could seriously harm ordinary people, but in the comics never seem to matter. Throwing blades that never seem to do more than stick in someone's hand are a classic example.
  24. So he never misses with thrown objects. How aout "Bullseye"? HERO is down on "never misses" or even "almost never misses", because of game balance. I'd suggest that misses against characters are defined as "they dodged out of the way". This is just a special effect of the power, the defender doesn't need to make a dodge or anything. If you've seen "Daredevil", you will know what I mean. Give him Martial Arts (unless you want him to be really easily beaten in a hand-to-hand fight) and Lightning Reflexes. For a name, how about "Dead On" or "Dead Center"? If he's a mercenary, he'll need a tough-sounding name.
  25. I'd just give her 50 points in Hunted, plus a Social Limitation for when people find out who she is. I don't know the source material at all, but it strikes me as being like one of those Celtic stories about people subject to gesas (sorry, might have got the spelling wrong). You know, by trying to destroy her, someone will cause the end of the world on her 16th birthday, which wouldn't have happened had people not thought she was going to cause the end of the world.
