  1. Re: Best way to model a booming voice? Well technically though, I think this affects the character only when he's using the stealth skill... no? Can you buy skill levels usable as attack, AoE, for Perception?
  2. Re: Sudden impulses - the interaction between system and emotion *puts slippers on his head*
  3. Re: Sudden impulses - the interaction between system and emotion Interesting. So then, the crux of the story is in learning that lying is natural, fighting against the establishment? Sort of a Kirk realizing he needs his 'evi; self' to be the full human he needs to be? Or is it just a backdrop? Sounds very story important. Actually, in this case I may actually have the characters be the different ones, being able to lie somehow, and a disad psych lim based on that, or a physical lim, or social lim maybe... hell even a distictive feature for a differing brain pattern.... could make for a powerful story about the nature of humans.
  4. Re: Best way to model a booming voice? Is that legal? What a great build if so.... Rep in the next 24hrs.
  5. Re: Sudden impulses - the interaction between system and emotion "running the same campaign" means what? you are co-GMing it? ANY RULE that gets in the way of a great story needs to be thrown out. If that includes the whole system, then so be it. Don't get me wrong, I really like HERO, but I run a game that happens to use the system, not the other way around.
  6. Re: Best way to model a booming voice? USPD has a couple builds that will help you.
  7. Re: Sudden impulses - the interaction between system and emotion I have a friend who likes the fact that he holds grudges. He doesn't see it as a psych lim at all. That doesn't stop it from being a limitation however. I also have a friend who likes to help others. He likes that about himself, but I sometimes sees it as a limitation as he gets roped into doing things for others that he may not always enjoy doing. It is a limitation as well. HERO calls them psych lims, but don't get caught in the word limitation - These are partially defining characteristics of their characters. My advice on all this: Get your head out of the rules and play the game. Like in acting, do your homework in creating the character, but when you act, you leave all the crap at home. The rules are only a guideline to get you thinking in a certain way.
  8. Re: Impressing yourself as an activation roll! Yes, I've conceeded the points brought up in that thread, but +x PRE, Offensive Only, should fix the probability problem easily, no? Also I do want the player to have to work for the situational modifiers, I think that is part of the fun of the way the activation could work. I want to promote the playing, fun aspect of this activation.
  9. Re: Who are the top 5 most powerful characters in your Campaign. From my Post Apoc Campaign... Stonehenge: A brick worth nearly 900pts in a game where the characters are still 75/75pt normals... He's the most powerful of the 'survivors' - The Ferryman: looking like the Grim Reaper/Charon, he the first of the 'survivors' - inherently desolid and can teleport anywhere on earth through the use of ley lines that now cross the globe. He can also teleport others. others TBA...
  10. Re: trying to model a weapon in HERO, what would I do? 9 Bait!: Extra-Dimensional Movement (Single Dimension), Requires A Computer Programming Roll (No Active Point penalty to Skill Roll; +0), Transdimensional (Single Dimension, through the internet ; +1/2), Ranged (+1/2), Persistent (aren't we though? ) (+1/2), Cumulative (sometimes it takes a few posts!) (+1/2), Usable As Attack (+1) (80 Active Points); Limited Power Power loses almost all of its effectiveness; Only to move Killer Shrike into a reality where EDM is actually "Alter Reality," (-2), Limited Power Power loses all of its effectiveness; It never actually works! (-5) Gestures, Requires Gestures throughout (Complex; typing; -1) 8 END cost
  11. Re: trying to model a weapon in HERO, what would I do? Actually, I was just kidding about the power... it's a running gag around here about how there are so many ways to model any power, and there are a few powers that seemed to get (ab)used to model some very strange concepts, and Extra Dimensional Movement is one of those powers.
  12. Re: trying to model a weapon in HERO, what would I do? oh oh! Ok, hear me out... EDM, UAA, AoE Armour Piercing! What?
  13. Re: Flight Question 5ER pg 379 for the encumbrance rules Although I seem to remember a rule about using movement powers [specifically flight] to augment STR if necessary.... Not sure where it is, but I remember the phrase was something like 'Defender turns his jetboots downward, using his flight to add to his strength.'
  14. Re: Having a painful movement My thanks for clarifying for Robyn.
  15. Re: Having a painful movement Um, are we all just missing that little advantage known as Trigger? Can we try this? 30 Elemental Control, Teleportation Powers, 60-point powers 30 Moving and a Shakin! - Teleport, 20" x16Mass 20 Mama said Bamph you out!: HA +4d6, NND ([standard]; +1), Trigger (Activating the Trigger is an Action that takes no time, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after it activates; Auto when Using Grab-Teleport Maneuver; +1) (60 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/2) Your Opponent is DCV x1/2 for being grabbed anyhow.... and then just buy a couple levels with the move to make sure you hit... Damage wise you're golden... that 4D6 can be up to doubled with STR, so assuming 20STR we already have 8D6, at +1 I think that's probably right about your campaign DC max anyhow... and if it's not, there's always the Martial Arts DCs add rule....
  16. Re: Delusion disads The Shoveller: God's given me a gift. I shovel well. I shove very well. Or even better/worse... the guys who didn't make it in to the Mystery Men.... Waffler: I... am the Waffler. With my griddle of justice, I BASH the enemy in the head, or I burn them like so! I also have some truth syrup, which is low in fat.
  17. Re: Impressing yourself as an activation roll! That's an interesting idea as well, though I don't want him to stun himself into inaction... although that would be rather funny to see. The EGO roll ties into another thought I had on it though... that the big reason he can use the strength is his belief in it. I tend to see belief as a powerful thing and was thinking to add to his power by others believing as well. So if others in the group make an ego roll, our hero gains +5STR/character whose roll was made. but then... how to model that? Mind you I don't want it to be a power that others have, but that our hero has.... Oh an interesting can of worms this is.
  18. Re: Impressing yourself as an activation roll! Yeah, RSR lim is the easier way to do it.... still thinking it over, but thanks.
  19. Re: Impressing yourself as an activation roll! Agreed, it's more 'in system' to do it that way, but I do like the feel of him having to make an effort to make a better Presence attack - otherwise it's really really hard to impress yourself, as we've seen in other threads recently. I like the idea that I am rewarding him with bonuses to his PRE attack when he does it well. I do, however, want him to be able to use it somewhat consistently... Perhaps the PRE roll is the way to go though...
  20. Ok, so tonight I added an interesting new thing into my game and I'm wondering what you all might think of it. It's basically an activation roll for a power [in this case extra Strength] that works as a Presence attack against yourself. This simulates impressing yourself/pumping yourself up to do the task at hand. It also promotes roleplaying in order to attain bonuses for your "self inflicted PRE attack." F'rinstance, a character in my game now has +15STR with the PRE Attack Activation. He has 15PRE and so gets 3D6 base... if he does nothing to get more dice, it will be very difficult to beat 15 on 3D6 of course. But it becomes easier the better/more bonuses his Pre Attack gets. How much of a limitation do you think this may be worth, and what do you think of this limitation?
  21. Re: Having a painful movement Actually I was just thinking... couldn't we just make this as a martial arts maneuver? I don't have UMA in front of me though... Grab, FMove, Damage... should be able to do it for 5pts, no? Of course to make it NND might cause issues... Just a thought
