  1. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy The easiest way would be to include it in your application over on HeroCentral; that way I can approve you and look at the character. However, if you're not familiar enough with HeroCentral and don't want to create an ID just yet, you may send me an e-mail with the .hdc as an attachment. Your choice. As long as you can make an appropriate 200 pt character, I don't mind if you don't have HD, TC, or FREd. (Hero Games might, but I don't. )
  2. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy Nah, I'd just consider it a 30 point power and a 15 point power (since you won't be using them simultaneously against the same attack unless someone builds one that way, and how often does that happen?). If you can get someone to write it up for you, that's cool. If you can't, you can send it to me via e-mail and then submit an application to Ravenswood; it'll just be a while before I can review it. But I'm not going to say "no, you can't join" to someone simply because they don't have Hero Designer. (That's for when I become a celebrity GM )
  3. Re: Freezing the Time If you can theorize it in science, you can factualize it in the comics genre. And you can quote me on that. As for 4-D, there is something with sonograms where the machine takes a 4-D picture; however, we haven't had one done yet, so I don't know if they're trying to truly say it's a 4th dimension (it may be 3 dimensional with sound, I dunno). And while it's not related to freezing time, I could rubber science it in some way, I bet.

  5. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy For any interested, as of now, I'll accept ALL submissions done by Hero Designer (please update to version 2.42 if you can) will be accepted, in case the players want to chit-chat and share ideas. After I'm settled down more, I'll start reviewing the characters and nodding at what works and trying to help modify what doesn't. My qualifier statement goes: "If it turns out there's too many applicants that I don't think I can handle, we'll scale back then. Of course, if someone submits a character who breaks the guidelines and refuses to work within them, we'll kick them out of school too."
  6. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy Sadly, this is what I thought and I meant to clarify the emphasis on Elemental. No prob, though I just realized it's worth 10 points since PCs will be under 16. (Under 18 is 5 pts.) Mmm, I'll have to think about that, but I won't say "no" right off the bat. From what you described, you could have the character start with the tech stuff; there just wouldn't be access to it during "normal" school hours. Some other Disads can include Distinctive Feature: Clique (5 pts) (Easy Con, Not & Rec) with various cliques being Alterna-Teen (music), Burnout, Cheerleader, Geek, Jock*, Loner, Princess, and Weirdo. All but Loner and Weirdo can have 10 pt Watched by their clique, 11-, As Pow. *PCs with powers are prohibited from joining sports, as it would be an extremely unfair advantage. (Which, prohibits nearly every PC type ) Hunted by parents (mildly punish) 11-, 15 pts Psych lim: fear of powers, 15 pts Psych lim, "The crush" 15 pts Susceptibilities and Vulnerabilities are good ones to start with and later buy off.
  7. Re: Help with Serial Killer story I lay blame on CSI, Law & Order, and their spinoffs.
  8. Re: Freezing the Time Well, according to UNITL Superpowers Database (an official book) you can. "The character can stop time, 'freezing' everyone and everything in place (even 'stopping' energy such as gravity or fire)." That's a quote. And it's in quotations. As for dimensions, many have stated/theorized (and I believe Einstein was one) that time is a dimension (4th?), thus you can go to that point via EDM, just like USD shows as well as the method for travelling foreward and backward in time.
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... [second try, first one my entire window mysteriously disappeared. ] Not really a quote, per se, but years ago in a Werewolf game: The PCs were all in hybrid form, arms on each other's shoulders in a circle around a camp fire singing "Blue Moon." I have no idea how the game went there, as it was a night I missed, but it was all the players talked about the next session (and included it in sessions to come). In a "Dark Alliance" game (I don't know if that's an official White Wolf title, but for us, it was when the players were allowed to be werewolves, vampires, mages, mummies, etc.), one of the players (who thought he was the "know all" of spirits as he was playing a Ragabash [sp?] or some American Indian type werecoyote [maybe werefox]) went into the Umbra and spotted a very large white lion. Thinking it was a spirit, he commanded it to "go away" (which was he default command to spirits). When it didn't budge, but merely stared at him, the player responded with something akin to: "Very well, I will allow you to remain in our land." Now, this was the Lion totem for our werewolf pack. When he explained the strange spirit he "tamed," we all laughed. We then made a parody of "In the Jungle/The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (whatever that song is officially called). It began something like: In the Umbra, the secret Umbra, The Lion guards our site. If you command the Lion to "go" He'll kill you out of spite. Since the GM or "Storyteller" was big on keeping private things secret, the player (and thus, his character) never figured out that it was a totem spirit.
  10. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy Later this week I'll be able to start showing some packages and other info. (Also, feel free to look at the Campaign Messages on the Ravenswood area also, as I'll be answering questions there as well.) I'd prefer elemental over mystical, but that's just because I have a dislike for the mystic side (but that's me, and with no VPPs, it'll make life easier for me) and I haven't enjoyed the mystic books released yet (though I know other have). Here's another Disadvantage to help with the 100: EDIT: 10 pts - Social Limitation: Minor (Frequently, "Minor") (since you'll be under 16)
  11. Re: Freezing the Time Ah, the Keep It Simple Stupid, plan.
  12. Hey everybody, Well, I've submitted to the voices in my head and am going to create a Teen Champions game based in Ravenswood Academy in Millennium City. The game itself won't start until January, 2006, but I'm opening it for ideas and submissions. I have no idea how many characters I'll accept, but I'm very tempted to say "Eight" or more. The game will be over on HeroCentral and I'm really looking for people who are willing to 1) post an average of 7 times a week (doesn't mean you have to post every day, just average it); 2) will bear with me as it's my first Teen Champions game; 3) Won't expect constant combat (I love combat, but I'm going to try and emphasize the "teen" aspect). If you have Teen Champions, that would really help, but I'll add cliques and packages and stuff here later. Some basics: Character Guidelines Character Points: 200 (Base Points: 100 + 100 in Disads) 36 Points will be predesignated for you (Listed on Ravenswood setting on HeroCentral) Required Disads: (Watched, "Ravenswood Academy," MoPow, 14-, NCI, ltd geo area, PC easy to find) (20 pts!) (Social Limitation, "Minor," Frequently, Minor) (10 pts!) Characteristics: 10-30 Speed: 3-5 CV: 4-8 DC: 4-10 Active Points: 40 Character Points: up to 40 Skill Points: 10-30 Skill roll: 8-12- Def/rDef: 12/6 Anal Retentive NO's: VPP! Skill levels, Self-created Hunteds, Penalty skill levels, complicated builds, cheesy limitations, munchkins, telling the GM how others react to what you've done (i.e., don't tell me what DCV an NPC is at, or if the NPC is CON Stunned from your attack; also, don't tell me how a PC or NPC reacts to you - and yes, I've been in games where this has happened), costumes (sorry, no costumes, yet), monikers (sorry, very cruel Headmistress Rowan running this, you'll "get yours" later) As a note for costumes and monikers, you'll get them, but there will be some strict guidelines (ones that teens would probably find annoying ), but once the campaign's started, I'll explain more (for those that don't have Teen Champions) and take monkers then. Oh, it's under "Ravenswood Academy" with Subtitle "The Teen Age." Oh, you're a freshman, age 13 or 14. While Ravenswood secretly caters to teen supers, there are normal kids and adults there who have no idea of the "super" side.
  13. Re: Opinion: EuroStar Well, Pantera was my favorite Eurostar member, so I'd personally bring her back (as well as powering up some of the current members). I like the idea of a speedster and Shamrock. If you have Champions Worldwide, I'd look in there for someone (I, uh, haven't actually finished the first section on European heroes yet ). However, one of Eurostar's most infuriating tactics is the "we're leaving before we're captured" aspect, so another one of these would be great (as a player, I hated it when they fled, but I loved the fact they weren't going to thrash us any more, 'cause it always felt like they were winning, even if we were). Perhaps a teleporting speedster?
  14. Re: Freezing the Time Hmm. Initially, my thought is that if none of the PCs have temporal powers, then they shouldn't be allowed to just counteract it; this should definitely be something more akin to a one-time plot device they've created. An appropriate Suppress or Drain should be sufficient. Creating a specific "power soley to stop Villain X's Time Stop" seems munchkiny. Heck, a simple END Drain could suffice.
  15. Re: Freezing the Time There's a reason both EDM and FW have cautions/warnings to go with them. IMHO it seems to me that the fear of Stop Time deals with a lack of trust either in the player(s) or within the GM himself (knowing that he would abuse it). Ironically, it seems -to me- that a lack of the above adds to the fear. YMMV.
  16. Re: Mystic Team Vehicle? "No, really. Just hop on the bed with me, Sapphire, and I'll take you places you've never been. What?" -Withcraft
  17. Re: Mystic Team Vehicle? [silly]Yeah, but they will if they wear capes. 'Cause capes are for people who want attention. Otherwise, they either wouldn't wear them or would wear cloaks with the hoods up. But capes, those are attention grabbers. That and airplane engines like them. [/silly]
  18. Re: Targeting Skill Levels and Shrinking Thanks for your responses. I had been thinking more along the lines if I could call a shot to the thigh/chest, then I might not have a problem hitting something the size of a thigh/chest, but I appreciate your perspectives, even if they are wrong...er, different.
  19. Re: Targeting Skill Levels and Shrinking In this case, it's the speed of the character, where being a lot faster makes hitting things easier, and thus the called shots aren't as difficult.
  20. Re: Mystic Team Vehicle? Don't bother knockin'
  21. Would any of you as GMs allow the Penalty Skill for Targeting Skill Level, used to offset Hit Locations, also be used to offset the bonus levels to DCV versus Shrinking characters? The reason this came up is because I have a character to has +4 levels vs. Hit Location modifiers, and I kept missing a character with Shrinking by 1 or 2 points and thought that maybe these PSLs could be applied versus the bonuses from Shrinking (so that my PC w/+4 levels would be able to offset 4 levels/20 points (+4 DCV) of shrinking. (I didn't bother the GM with this, because I didn't want to ruin the fun of the moment.) Any thoughts?
  22. Re: Freezing the Time I personally don't see a problem with the EDM for stopping time. You would have to insure that the player doesn't abuse the power. Until Superpowers Database has some nice Time Powers (pgs 232-238). Time Stop itself costs 45 points and 4 END. My suggestion is to not let the PC start out with Time Stop as a 0 END power. Some tips that might help (depending on how you feel about them): Don't let other time powers work during Time Stop (maybe those powers have limitations) Maybe a Physical Limitation of "Time Powers cost 2x END when Time Stop is active" Possibly by an END reserve for Time Stop, where the END may be SPD x END cost (4), with a REC of 1 Those are all I can think of right now, but the power isn't that abusive on its own, just how the player uses it. I had a player design a PC who had Time Powers and with his Time Stop, he could either fire an NND each phase for one turn before he ran out of END, or he could half-move and fire an NND four four phases and run away the fifth phase. He discarded the character because he realized the build was too expensive to have Time Stop and the powers he wanted at a decent level.
  23. Re: Mystic Team Vehicle? How about a dirigible? Just one that doesn't require fuel. Or wind. Modify the (DC Comics) Boom Tube, making it take a full turn to activate, as well as stays open for a full turn or two. But for a travelling base, I'd think of something like Baba Yaga's Hut. A "hut" that travels on chicken legs, with the inside much larger than the outside.
