  1. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls [Emphasis mine] But what if the attacker/PC is weilding a sword and has his CSLs in that? Then it's only 6 points for 6 skill levels ("with any single attack with one specific weapon"). Or would you say that you could only do the "reduce the armor activation" with 5 point skill levels? (Not making them specifically for reducing activation, but requiring that purchase.) That would seem appropriate. And not allow the 8 or 10 pt levels to be used that way (my personal preference there).

  3. Re: Opinion: Double Damage Reduction It depends on SFX. If it's an injection, then it's physical. If it's mystical in nature, then it's energy. Other cases would depend on the N/PC's power descriptions/sfx. However, that's more of a "Damage Reduction" in general than Double Dmg Red.
  4. Re: Help with a Computer Ugh, that stinks. I was on a PBeM with Corven Ren. Him and his family tried moving, had complications and are now staying with his mom until things get situated properly. Which means our PBeM is d-e-d dead.
  5. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls Yeah, me too! Hmm, I may do something like this, but requiring a specific hit location first.
  6. Re: Hit Locations This question sounds more like "I'm grumpy and going to ask a senile question" but I'll respond to it in case I'm misreading you. 1: I would allow FW with a limitation that halved defense only after "Armor" (though for a brick like Ogre, or someone with a Force Field for defense, that limitation wouldn't apply, so it'd be a small limitation). 2: No, I wouldn't allow an advantage of "bypass any armor with an activation roll." For that, you'd need your attack compounded with a supress vs armor. 3. That would be stupid, since Find Weakness has rolls to begin with. 4. Again, Find Weakness takes half a phase, and with good reason. Parts 2-4 really makes you seem snarky.
  7. Re: Hit Locations Just as a reminder, simply having penalty skill levels doesn't guarantee a head-shot. You still have to hit the target, first. That seems to have gotten lost in this thread.
  8. Re: Oh Wow Yes, you can. When you see a post that you like, you click on the "Justice Scales" of that person's post. (Go ahead and practice on mine. ) This will bring up a little window where you can type something nice in. You can make it long, or as short as a smilie. You can even just type in "Thanks." Then click the button and voila, that person has some rep from you. As of your last post, you have 4 rep power, so you'd add to them 4 points. When they get to certain 'levels' of rep, their rep power goes up. As a side note, while you can give rep to people in the NGD forum, that rep doesn't count toward rep power, since NGD (Non Gaming Discussion) isn't related to HERO Games.
  9. Re: Help with a Computer *Gratuitious bump* (but no grind) So, how's the game going?

  11. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls Hey, what about me? I did rep you!
  12. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls Could you explain with a little more detail? Are you talking about something like "Find Weaknes" (-#, only versus Armor) (+#, can reduce Armor activation)?
  13. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls Now that sounds interesting. No, I wasn't wanting an 'automatic' bypass per se, but I did want it to be difficult. As for the "looks" of the armor, one is Samurai armor that has few 'weak spots' if you know where to look (such as the armpits, but that's a hard hit); the other is Ripper, whose picture makes him seem like he'd have a much lower activation roll, but may have 'Armor' under his purple, bilous skin.
  14. Re: Opinion: Double Damage Reduction Well, now you're looking at things other than methods of reducing damage. Besides, Ripper already has 25 REC. And with a 35 CON, he's not getting stunned any time soon. Like I said earlier, if you and your GM like it, have at it; it's not something I would personally allow. Your GM May Vary.
  15. Re: Hit Locations The facecards are, but the suicide king doesn't care.
  16. Re: Bypassing Armor that has Activation rolls Uh, yeah. Aside from the 'will of the gods," how about for the examples I provided?
  17. Re: Hit Locations As for gun-toting zombie slayers and military soldiers both getting a -8 to hit in the head, well yeah. It's just that the military soldier probably has PSLs to compensate. Personally, I can hit a playing card at 50 feet with a pistol, no problem. My wife on the other hand can't. I've been in the Army and had my training. She however, hasn't. So while the difficulty is technically the same, I've more skill levels than she does.
  18. Re: Hit Locations Hey! We grab a theme and stick with it. Like peanut butter in the hair! Besides, "military vets" would be more of a defense, than DCV. Woe be to the bastard that tries to use a vet for defense in one of my games! Now, back to zombies, Rob.
  19. Okay, here's the scenario. Two characters have the power Armor. Both have it at an activation roll of 14-. One has it as a focus (full body Samurai armor) while the other has it as a regular power (Omicron Armor plating, no focus). Now, by description, both characters have the Armor covering all major body parts (all those you take standard called shots for), but there are tiny gaps in them. (NOTE: I know for some armor, such as helmet or vest, it has a defined location, but this is armor whose description covers pretty much the entire body.) If a PC/NPC wanted to do a called shot bypassing the armor, how would you handle that? Would they have to target a body part, getting a minus for that, and then another minus for the armor? If so, what additional minus would you give it? My initial guess would be like so: Activation , Penalty 8- , -1 9- , -2 10- , -3 11- , -4 12- , -5 13- , -6 14- , -7 15- , -8 So, if someone wanted to target the head, they'd get -8 for head shot, then -7 for bypassing 14- armor, for a total of -15. If they just wanted to bypass the armor with no special frills, they'd target the chest -3, then the armor -7 for a total of -10 to guarantee an armorless hit. While this may seem extreme, the player who brought this up already has +4 levels for hit locations, along with a viscious OCV with his weapon, and the villain in question was at 1/2 DCV at the time (making a head shot -4). Opinions, experiences, or is this actually mentioned in the book?
  20. Re: Opinion: Double Damage Reduction I personally wouldn't allow it. Case in point is in a game I'm running where Ripper has shown up. He already has 40 defenses (20 res) with 75% DR. If he were hit with an attack that did 52 STUN, 12 would get by defenses and 3 past the DR. With 75% DR again, only 1 would get by (and the guy has 80 STUN to begin with). Now, for extremes, let's say PC teamwork does 140 STUN to Ripper. Well, 40 are stopped by defenses, leaving 100, of which, 75 are stopped by DR, so Ripper takes 25 STUN. If we reduce that by 75% again, only 7 will get through. So, by the first extreme example, it would take 4 coordinated hits to take him, while the second one it would take 12. That's a long, long combat time. In the current campaign I'm running (on HeroCentral), Ripper has been hit three times (one a killing attack that his armor didn't protect him from) and is only down 13 STUN, though 5 BODY. If it works for you and your GM, then more fun to you. But don't be plannin' ta join arr game, matey.
  21. Re: Hit Locations I'd say give sombies a 3 DCV or less, possibly even a 1. Zombies are always attacking last. Their strength is in numbers. And the fact it's gross when they start gnawing on the guts of the person next to you. For surprise, I wouldn't allow it. How are you surprising them? Saying Boo? No. Simply because Zombies aren't trying to dodge, doesn't mean you're surprising them (and you can't keep surprising someone in combat). If this were true, then lots of bricks would be affected by this interpretation. "Well, Invulnerable Man isn't trying to dodge any attacks. I bet he'll be surprised when I shoot him." I don't buy it, myself. I say: Give zombies a 1-3 DEX, a 2 SPD and then levels for grab (because they don't do anything else, except bite). YMMV.
  22. Re: Telekinesis and Martial Arts I don't see why not, though I wouldn't give it more than a -1/4 limitation, if I gave it one.
  23. Re: Ogre, Hand-to-Hand, Bricks Tricks & Rage According to FREd, pg. 217: "Berserk characters use their most familiar or often used offensive Power at full strength while Berserk...." For Ogre, I'd think that would allow him to use Distance Punch and Tear You Limb From Limb, possibly to include Augmented Haymaker, though for the scene I've used Ogre in, the latter never came into play.
  24. Re: Sharing the Campaign ideas you can't use... yet Eliminating Dr. D. and organized crime I would like to have a campaign where the PCs have: Hunted - Dr. Destroyer Hunted - Demon Hunted - VIPER They start out with KS on each of these, as well maybe KS of their tactics or something. As the PCs gain XP, the players decide which Hunted to buy off. The campaign then goes in the direction of "eliminating" that group/person from the campaign universe. So, if they start with 20 pts of Hunted by Demon, and the group as a whole has bought off the Hunted, the GM would run a final scenario (of course, the PCs would have been eliminating cells while they were buying down the Hunteds).
