  1. Re: Opinion: EuroStar On average, a 50 STR Tk will do 35 Stun, of which only 9 gets through her 26 ED FF; Gravitar can neither CON Stun Mentalla nor send her into la-la land in one attack, much less three.
  2. Re: Freezing the Time : puts foot in, tests water : I think the most important thing in understanding EDM is that it is a STOP sign power. For me, I tend to only let one PC have them throughout the entire campaign. Thus, only one PC would ever have a VPP (and that would only be in a FtF game; I don't allow them in online games), only one have Transform, etc (well, cosmetic transforms can be had by multiples, but not major). Now, with Stop Time (or Time Stop), I'd make the PC pay END while using it, since, unchecked it has the potential for abuse. Having stated that, I now enter into silly mode. Chronos Chris: I stop time! GM: Very well, what do you do. CC: I rest until I'm healed. GM: You can't do that. Stopping time costs END and you'll run out before even one BODY heals back. CC: What about my Accelerated Healing? GM: Sorry, you took a [GM required] (limitation or disadvantage) that prevents you from using time powers when time stopped. CC: Okay, I shoot a numbing blast at Villainous Victor. GM: You can't do that. Your blast is a time-based blast. CC: Can I shoot him with my back-up pistol? GM: Yes. CC: Okay, shoot. Dang, rolled a 16. Good thing he's still. GM: You miss. CC: WHAT? GM: Sorry, your base OCV is 6, plus 11 equals 17, minus 16 equals 1. CC: But he should be at 0 DCV, three at max, right? GM: Sorry, range modifiers got you. CC: Fine, okay, I half-move teleport 10" and- GM: Sorry, can't teleport. CC: Why? It's a simple teleport. GM: Special Effects are stopping time to move, but you're already stopping time so you just have to walk. CC: Dangit! Okay, My Run is 6", half for 3. Hmm, how far away is he? GM: Twelve hexes. CC: Forget it, I'm leaving. GM: But you're the hero! CC: Dangit! Okay, I take a recovery, then. GM: You can't. You're spending END to keep time still. CC: What about Post Segment 12 recovery? GM: You are a 5 speed; after five phases of stopping time -let's see, that's 20 END- you can take a PS-12 recovery of 10. CC: Ugh! Okay, fine. What else can I do? GM: Well, you could save that girl who *might* get hit by that damaged taxi. CC: Okay, I'll do that. GM: No roll needed, though it will take two phases. CC: Gotcha. Crossed off END for Time Stop and Running. Now what? GM: It's just you and the villain for the most part. CC: Okay then. I'm running over to him, noncombat speed for one phase. GM: Okay, you're at him, now what? CC: I'm pulling down his pants. GM: He's wearing a kilt. CC: Fine, I pull down his kilt. GM: You see he's won first prize. CC: Aaagh! Villainous Victor: Aaagh! /:D
  3. Re: Just Picked Up Champions Worldwide I hadn't gotten that far yet (just finishing up Zemletpyasenee in Chapter 2: Russia), but thanks for pointing it out. I read up on it and must say "Very Cool."

Re: Clown Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to bid on one until after Christmas. And chances are they'll be gone by then. But I'll still look.
  5. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy Alright, mister, pound him out quickly or else you can't come with us. Wait. (Let me know if you're still going to submit a character, otherwise, I'll close off the applications.)
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Witchcraft is sitting on her bed, with Sapphire standing next to it but has her hands on her hip. As Scarlet Archer walks in, Witchcraft says: "No, really. Just hop on the bed with me, Sapphire, and I'll take you places you've never been. What?" After Sapphire turns red from embaressment and makes a comment, Scarlet Archer responds: "Please, don't be embarrassed on my account. I think I want to see where this is going...." Though, to be fair, the quote was originally mine that I used for post 43 on this thread and then decided to implement it into my Champions game on HeroCentral.
  7. Re: Opinion: EuroStar How very rude of you. You have accused others of stacking the deck if Eurostar gets an advantage, without realizing (or admitting) the hypocrisy of doing it yourself. To you its unfair if Eurostar plans ahead of time (despite more than one member having Tactics), if Gravitar isn't the initiator of the attack, and if Gravitar isn't in a favorable position. Why is that unfair, but forcing Eurostar to be within 22" of each other? Why is Eurostar not allowed to be 15" away from Gravitar's hex, surrounding her in a circle? (Thus 31 hexes from the person opposite them.) Now, if you will respond cordially, I'll continue this with you; however, if you insist on being rude, then do not bother.
  8. Re: Opinion: EuroStar Maybe I'm missing something, but I see a few flaws with this scenario: "Once she gets to act, she can use 50 STR TK, area 11". That will pin most of Eurostar in place. Period. Most of them are out of the fight.. they will never get to take an action in this battle at all, unless they are lucky enough to be close enough to the edge of the TK AoE to dive out of it. She can maintain that pretty much indefinitely given her level of END and REC... long enough for this fight, anyhow. While doing the initial TK attack, she can do one of her other attacks." Initially, I don't see why we're assuming that Eurostar is within 11" of Gravitar. (Which is stacking the deck in Gravitar's favor.) However, given that Gravitar has 30" of flight, we can forget distances and play the "Eurostar is within 11 hexes, instead of surrounding her from a farther distance." So, let's start with combat: To begin with, neither Gravitar nor Mentalla go first. Scorpia does. She has 24 DEX Lightning Reflexes: +4 DEX to act first letting her act on DEX 28. Now, I would surmise that since they've fought before, Scorpia would use her Curare-Tipped Darts (4d6 RKA NND, does BODY). Gravitar has a 10 DCV, while Scorpia has a 15 OCV, she'll hit on a 16 or less. Next go Gravitar and Mentalla. Instead of arguing who should go first because you're stacking the deck against the other (and since it's the first phase of combat) they both go simultaneously. Gravitar uses her 11" AoE TK and Mentall uses her Mind Control. For clarification, both Durak and now der Westgote can break free of it and go on their DEX. What does Gravitar do with her TK? The ONLY two things she can do is either pin people down, or hold them in the air; that's it. Mentalla uses her Mind Control, since she's probably aware her Ego Attack isn't as effective against Gravitar. While they both have the same ECV, Mentalla has +3 and will hit on a 14-. What command does she give? Something akin to "Kill Ultrasonique first. You've beaten Eurostar before and you can do it again, but make them pay slowly." Mentalla will roll on average 49, which is 24 over Gravitar's Ego, and Gravitar (who has 15 pt Overconfidence) would succumb, since EGO +20 is "Target will perform actions [she] is normally against doing." She's not violently opposed to killing off a member, or one at a time. And with Mentalla's "Conversation, 13-" she *might* get a 5 point bonus "Order is worded in an exceptionally convincing manner." NEXT: Durak and der Westgote definitely get to go. Fiacho might if he can use his 60 STR martial art "Escape". If he cannot, then his turn is forfeit IF Gravitar pinned people down; if she merely held them in the air (my guess, unlikely) then ranged attacks could be used against her. So, Durak and der Westgote go. Der Westgote would probably use either his Tackle maneuver (only 5d6 due to TK, or 8d6 if MA Escape allowed) to knock her down. However, if he decided to half-move leap (and he does have the STR for it), he could land next to her and either do a 16d6 Bearhug, or 6d6HKA "Rending and Tearing." Durak has two choices: either go against Gravitar also, or most likelypick up a teammate (probably Fiacho) and move him/her out of the TK AoE. With a 13 INT, he's not stupid. Fiacho now gets to go. FIACHO is targetting a 1/2 DCV Gravitar (Now 5 DCV). He'd probably fire his 1d6 RKA Armor Piercing + Penetrating + 3 Shot Autofire. Gravitar's down probably 3 Body from this + 14 Body from Scorpia's nasty attack. Recovery time. PHASE 2: Gravitar. Gravitar either attacks Ultrasonique (or really any other individual Mentalla designated) or she makes a breakout roll. If a breakout roll, Gravitar will either continue to fight (losing 17 BODY, she's now at -2). My guess is that Gravitar turns off her TK and uses a half-move to get up and flies 60 hexes away (half her full NCM). Those that didn't get to attack in Seg 12 now get a half-move to get up (if Acrobatics or Breakfall doesn't help them) and take a parting shot at her. IF Gravitar remains, she must either concentrate on one person or continue her AoE TK (which will slowly get her killed by Fiacho, with Durak removing Eurostar one at a time from the field). Der Westgote will slowly keep knocking her down, and should she remain, he may continuously do a 16d6 crush to her. IF Gravitar opts to drop her TK, she's doomed. Except for Ultrasonique and der Westgote, Eurostar has Teamwork on either 13- or 14-. A coordinated attack is imminent on phase 3 or 5. Gravitar's DCV will be too low against so many attackers. PHASE 3: In the likely action that Gravitar flees, Durak, who has 96" leaping, would probably attempt a full-move Grab By or Move By in attempt to prevent Gravitar from fleeing, while Mentalla would try Mind Control again, suggesting Gravitar either "stop to bandage" herself, or to "finish them off." ARGUMENT: "While doing the initial TK attack, she can do one of her other attacks." I believe this is a false assumption. FREd states under Multiple-Power Attacks (pgs 234-5) "First, he hust be able to pay the END for all of the Powers." If this means the power must cost END, the AoE TK is at 0 END and does not. Even if this is allowed "Third, he can only make one Attack Roll...." so Gravitar would have to refocus the center of AoE TK (which may allow some members to free themselves). "Fourth, he must use all of the Attack Powers on the same target," brings up the possibility of a miss. If this happens, well, Eurostar gets a phase or two of revenge. It should not be assumed that Gravitar will simply continue to conveniently pin her opponents while she picks them off one at a time.
  9. Re: Opinion: EuroStar Woohoo! Yes, there he (Der Westgote/The Visigoth) is on pages 122-3, and built on 501 points, 88 more than Durak and pretty much his equal, if not a bit better. The two definitely compliment each other on beating the tar out of any lone hero brick. Thanks for the info.
  10. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy Well, hurry it up! With Sinanju saying he'll pass and Gojira sending his in, I think you and Mightbec are the last ones who have expressed interest in sending a character that hasn't. If I am correct on this, when your two come in, I'll stop accepting applications.
  11. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy
  12. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy In theory, yes. There are seven who have already applied and they seem okay, plus there's one who may rewrite his who hasn't reapplied. I'm tempted to let everyone with a decent character remain, since I don't think any two people have submitted the same type (for example, I have only one brick, one martial artist, one invisible power character, etc.). So for now, yes, there are openings.

  14. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Which is strangely what my great aunt said. For the ice cream, it was more in the way she described it (along with other items it could top), which went something like "Yes, bourbon. You know when you go to the fair and they have the booth in the back corner, selling ice cream, they'll have small bottles of bourbon you can top it with." It may be funnier when you know that my great aunt always carried a whiskey flask with her that had, of course, bourbon in it. Apparently, it goes well in tea and soda. But being a teetotaler, I wouldn't know.
  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... These two are from family get-togethers where we've been playing Yahtzee, but still... Scene: In the kitchen; Present: Mom, Dad, Wife, Brother #2, puppy dog, and Me. Wife: (laughing) He's peeing on the floor! Mom: Oh, no! Who? Me: I hope you don't think it's Dad. Next, the same people, not the puppy, and my grandmother (who's 83 or 84). After her third turn of the game, she asks "What's Yahtzee?" This next one was ten family members playing the home version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with my great aunt (90+) watching. Brother, reading the question and then the answers: "What was Humphrey Bogart's nickname? Was it A) Humpty; Boogie--" Great Aunt "That's pronounced 'Bogey'." Brother: (snickering) "Actually, 'Bogey' was 'C'." Playing games with your elders can be very fun. In fact, this makes me think of other games we played with my great aunt, one had several questions that began "Name 5 toppings that you would put on" and then list some food. My great aunt would always answer "bourbon" for one of them. Including ice cream.
  16. Re: Villian Creation Article Very cool. Thanks for the inspiration.
  17. Re: Freezing the Time Since the KISS acronym is generally used when referring to yourself or a group, it's more self-depracating than an insult. It's even in the dictionary. And KIS isn't a word, so something needed to be added. Another one would be: Proper Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance. If you find that insulting, you just need to grow some thicker skin. As I don't have 5ER, I can't look up that. And since you think my "diatribe" is abusive (?) when I point out holes in your argument, I guess this ends this. And since it's not related to the topic, that's fine by me.
  18. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy
  19. Re: New Teen Champions: Ravenswood Academy I'm not familiar with every NPC hero or villain out there, but if you can find one that has a legitimate reason for having a(n illegitimate?) child, then you could play that. I don't want anyone to say "Well, Sapphire could have had a kid when she was a teen, and that's me." (I'd probably allow a Bulldozer bastard child. ) Though you could just say, "okay, here's my superman teen homage" without being the child of a pre-existing NPC. And since it is a 200 point teen game, the PCs will -over the course of hopefully four years- grow into 350+ pt characters. Something that I'll work on later (there's no requirement for it with submissions) is maybe everyone giving me 3 'plot seeds' for their character.
