  1. Re: How do I build this power: Always face away from me It disturbs me that I just got more rep for THE BROWN TORPEDO than I have for any one thing to date.
  2. Re: Custom Mechanon Pipes, fins, neon, obnoxious sound system blasting gangsta rap about destroying all life, custom paint.... As printed for 5th I think I'd tone Mechanon down a bit if your players are using characters just shy of 300 points. He's built with the assumption of 350 point characters + experience. Maybe shave a few to several points off his defenses here and there, and cut down his DCs by a few here and there.

  4. Re: How do I build this power: Always face away from me This looks like a job for... THE BROWN TORPEDO!!!
  5. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week Still looking for Portugal?
  6. Re: UNTIL Superpowers Database -- What Do *You* Want To See? First you must survive... the test. AND then you will be baked *ZRKR* into a cake. (Orange Box, Half Life, Portal, Good Stuff) Wrenching this hideously messed up topic back on course... I'd like to see an essay of a few to several pages discussing the designer's approach to power creation. I mean, my attitude has always been that SFX covers so much that any power with more than a few extras sets off alarm bells. The "dear God not another Munchkin" warning bells. Maybe with some examples of powers that are potentially messed up, and how to refine the advantages and limitations taken so it's down to something technically sweet and not an ugly mass of advantages and limitations. No cure for munchkinism that, but I think there's a fair number of people who think slathering six mods onto an EB is really cool. Usually what they end up creating is just annoying. "This continuous sticky penetrating uncontrolled damage shield cumulative power with the activation roll and no conscious control can do what now?"

    Archetypes

Re: Archetypes Also, why should we? What's my motivation? You gonna give the person with the best character a cash prize?
  8. Re: Unique, interesting powers Actually, a triggered Transform with an automatic reset would be the way to do it. Either that, or a Transform Damage Shield with limited coverage (back only) if you were willing to have it only work on attacks that hit your character. It would be a LOT of points for a power that got nixed by a few points of power defenst or a lot of BOD on the victim.

    Archetypes

Re: Archetypes Well I did this, though I confess these are intentionally generic: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61766
  11. Re: Build Me A Villain Team Even just in CKC there's a whole mass of "normal" people who might go after heroes just out of simple hatred or contempt. Utility Mirage (a teamup of them is part of Champions Battlegrounds) Ankylosaur and Armadillo (they're both tools, but human ones) Lazer, Steel Commando, and/or Mechassassin. One or all depending on how their Rivalry is massaged All of these criminals are mercenary in the extreme, and have a mass of psych quirks and rivalries that can be manipulated by clever players. I'd suggest upscaling the power of the 350 point characters to make them a more serious threat. Armadillo particularly. For some reason I have an easy time imagining PSI, Menton, or Mentalla as the secret leader behind this group. Those being mentallists powerful enough to massage their rivalries and personality quirks.
  12. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week I found him! I found him! I never emptied my trash folder, so there he was. Hooray for Linux! Attached is Shaper in all his original glory.
  13. Re: Post A Crime With Game Potential Well if you want to get really creepy... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cecil_Jacobson Plot ideas abound. Holocaust creating a generation of perfect mutants based on his DNA. Genocide doing genetics tests on fathers, and if they've got a mutant recessive taking them out of the pool. A modern take on fairytale changlings by whatsherface from News of the World.
  14. Re: Most interesting character ideas you've seen from others? The best characters I ever encountered from players was when running "Over the Edge" (a brilliant game much undervalued) and I always gave players the following edict. "In Al'Amarja being powerful is bad, because it attracts attention. You can be odd, but the closer you get to 'normal with messed up secrets or oddities' the better." One group came up with: Retired professional bowler on the island seeking a cure for his arthritis. Overwrought fashion designer who'd run out of ideas and was seeking inspiriation. A secretly hermaphroditic photocopier salesperson. An ex-mercenary agent for collectors seeking a series of objects for a mystery client. The list of objects was great, like Hitler's back scratcher.
  15. Re: Alternate Teams (inspired by Thunderbolts) MWAHAHAHA! That was great! Why didn't I notice that? Though a lot of these "villains" are a little too soft hearted to go along with the "dominate the inferior human scum" line. I'd think they might just start trashing IHA installations and humiliating it's political puppets. Then PRIMUS starts hunting the mutants, and the PCs are left pondering who to defend. The somewhat ethical villains, or the unethical yet legal research institution. At least legal so far as anyone knows.

    250

Re: 250 If ever there was a case for Multiform it's Hulk. He's not just got a heroic ID with the same mind and personality underneath like Shazam, but becomes a whole different person.

  18. Re: Build Me A Villain Team Ooo! Zombie Thread! A team of really brutal Masters of Evil level villains bent on world domination with no compunctions about killing. Built from published material, and allowing breakups of teams but no master level villains? Me, I don't like Holocaust, because his egotism and casual killer limits prevent him from working well with others for long. "Damn you Mechassassin! I TOLD you to get me a coffee with TWO sugars!" **ZAP!** Leader - Zorran the Artificer Coleader/Backstabber - The Black Paladin Brawler/Brick - Grond Energy Projector and General Heavy - Firewing Super Agent - Mechassassin Exotic - Shrinker (in a team this potent she's nasty! Suddenly going blind while fighting Firewing?) Zorran can EASILY keep Grond docile either by some mystic trinket or just the blunt approach of constantly mind controlling him. Both he and Black Paladin can appeal to Firewing's desire to win and prove himself in combat (his so called honor) and Mechassassin will just work for anyone if the money's right. Shrinker is a little more complex, but only a little. She can be lured into the team by money and exploiting her hatred of heroes, which can certainly be exploited by Black Paladin. Now there's a couple! This is also a group with some possible dysfunctions at a deep level. They're all greedy scumbags, and Zorran and Black Paladin would only cooperate so long as it was expedient. Firewing might just up and quit if his Code of Honor won out over his need to win, and working out how they're keeping Grond docile and nuetralizing that effect would have him off. In other words, clever players would be able to work around this group's mental handicaps wheras a straight up brawl might not be winnable.
  19. Re: Hey, that worked pretty good! Afterthought powers that worked well So... Dispel Fire vs. any one fire (+1/4) HRRP plus PER bonus with all sense groups Small Force Wall Small Magnetism TK crude (10STR) Very small TK with Fine Manip and ranged on touch Basic hearing group images Is that all we got? I was hoping for a bigger list than this. It only to prove that Champion's players aren't always angling to get the most powerful build and that some GMs will reward people for taking non-ideal builds.
  20. Re: Hey, that worked pretty good! Afterthought powers that worked well Force wall IS an amazing power! I never thought that a piddling little one would do much good, I'll have to give that another look. Like TK it looks unimpressive at first blush until you really look at it hard. I wonder if anyone's ever had a small amount of TK (like 10 STR) work out that well? I bet it would.
  21. Re: What would happen if Los Angeles County vanished? Actually no, one of the largest populations of Iranians outside of Iran is in LA county. So a lot of Iranians would lose their loved ones as well as a satelite TV station or two IIRC. There's just massive immigrant populations there generally. People all over the world would lose someone or know someone who lost someone. The air in southern California would get a lot more breathable. Also, Southern California's power grid would have a lot of excess capacity all of a sudden. There'd be blackouts all over the place when a big chunk of the grid and its control systems just disappear. For that matter, big chunks of the Internet would disappear as well. Any servers were in LA and didn't have off site replication would go bye.
  22. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week You really want an insane Frenchman capable of completely altering reality within twenty km of himself on your world? Are you ill?
  23. This is inspired by something someone posted in another discussion thread. I'm not sure how it got on the topic or where the original post was. But they'd talked about how they'd just tacked "Dispel any one fire one at a time." as an afterthought on a magical katana. And how it ended up being REALLY useful. Apart from fire being a common SFX it let them extinguish normal fires and ended up being a crucial power to winning their group clear in scenarios on several occasions. For me it was tacking HRRP along with +3 on all PER rolls for a flying brick called strike. I figured it as an RP thing; he could listen in on police broadcasts and be on the scene with his flight whenever he was needed. But is seems that lots and lots of gadgets, security systems, and enemy agent types use radios too. With is 15- PER rolls and the radio hearing he ended up getting a lot of tedious between battle stuff out of the way quickly. Totally worth the 19 points even back in the 100+150 days. Any others?
  24. Re: Alternate Teams (inspired by Thunderbolts) I should think that would require PC's built on 450+200 unless you had EXCEPTIONALLY clever PCs.
  25. Re: Around the World With A New Character Each Week Crap! So did I! Obviously he's imagined himself out of existence. I'll recreate him for a different country. Any reasonably civilized country with a first rate socialized medicine system and a strong humanitarian streak could support him.
