  1. Re: Can you dispel just one skeleton? Summon is an Instant power, isn't it? So you could no more Dispel a summoned creature than you could Dispel a previously-fired Blast to "heal" the damage it dealt. I would suggest XDM, UAA, only against summoned undead. Although that might end up a little expensive.
  2. Re: Pointless Hero I had a great idea where I wouldn't impose a limit on disadvantages - as they are somewhat self-balancing, and if some characters are a little stronger than others I can balance that out in-game. My players strenuously objected.
  3. Re: Victorian Era, Mystery Driven, Paranormal Campaign… Help? Sorry for the mixup. I'll endeavour to be more clear when advising people in the future.
  4. Something I've been wondering for a while. Say I have a character with a power limitation or disadvantage that a particular focus can overcome. The classic example being Cyclops, whose EB is Always On but he has a Focus to essentially remove that limitation. The best thing I could come up with is figure out the cost of the limitation (i.e., how many points am I saving on the power from it?) and then buy a "power" with that cost, applying Focus to it. Sort of like buying a naked Advantage. That seems horribly clunky, though, so I was wondering if anybody had a better idea.
  5. Re: So, what do you need? This is something I've wondered about, too. In one way, the question comes to "what is a god?" And I don't mean in an agnostic curiosity sort of way. By some fantasy interpretations, they are just 3000 point superheroes. By some more real-world interpretations, they're omnipotent and, effectively, unstattable beings. One of the best suggestions I've received on this is a big cosmic VPP, with a limitation along the lines of "only for powers related to portfolio", where portfolio is the particular area the deity has a near-supreme level of dominion. Although, in one game I recently played, we brawled with Thor and he was basically just a 450 point warrior. As far as new powers, I think we'd need a more concrete idea what is desired first. What should gods do that makes them different from not-gods, even if the non-divine characters in question are of equivalent point values?
  6. Re: Victorian Era, Mystery Driven, Paranormal Campaign… Help? You don't need Charges and Reduced Endurance.
  7. Re: I just bought Hero 5th Edition Revised instead of GURPS 4th Edition. I agree with the Perk suggestions. It's also worth mentioning in concordance with that is Social Limitation: Subject to Orders, as pretty much everybody with military rank is going to be.
  8. Re: How would you build the power to Adapt to hostile conditions? I'd suggest either an adaptation VPP or (requires more handwaving) Life Support with Variable Special Effects.
  9. Re: So, what do you need? It could just as easily be made a Constant power by default - which would seem reasonable to me (more reasonable, in the instance of most machines).
  10. Re: Dropping defences Sounds a lot like an 'Always On' Power Defence to me.
  11. Re: Need help deciding points for physical limitation As the sunglasses are a solution for the eyes, I don't think they should really count as their own aspect of DF.
  12. Re: Two Weapon Fighting No, no they're not. The first sentence describing Sweep (in 5E): "This Maneuver allows a character to use a HTH attack more than once in a Phase against a single target or multiple targets (provided they are all within HTH range)." Emphasis mine. Now, I'm working out of FRED, so Revised might have changed it (although nobody so far has mentioned that it has). And I'm aware of your quoting the FAQ, but I must point out that he spoke in general terms (using words like 'generally', and specifically stating that the rules say you can sweep a single target). Finally, I call out the logic of it. What, logically, prevents me from hitting the same person more than once (whether it be with a pair of swords or a rapid flurry of punches)?
  13. Re: Hiding from Detect Wow, a lot of responses. I like a lot of the ideas brought up, using Shapeshift hadn't occurred to me. Images seems like it could work, but it might be a little too cumbersome. In reponse to some of the questions brought up, I envisioned it as (in my example) a mystical 'hey! He's a vampire!' sense. In most cases, I envision it like a spell - casting Detect Vampires and scanning over an area. As for it picking up a blank for a detect-invisible vampire, that shouldn't be strange at all - a human, a puppy, or a window would also not show up on the vampire-sense. And I wouldn't expect the invisible (or shapeshifted, or whatever the proposed defence is) vampire trick to be common - if Detect: Vampires never worked, people wouldn't use it. The idea is intended for a few special people (or maybe a small group or two). Although, neither is the Detect supremely common. It is reasonably common, but not to an 'everyone and their dog can sense vampires' degree - that seems like it would tilt the world against vampires (not necessarily a bad thing, just not what I was going for).
  14. Let us say that for a campaign I'm working on, some Detects are known in-game to be reasonably common, mainly detecting if a creature is a certain thing. Since members of these detectable groups know there are many out there who could easily sense them, some of them want to hide from this Detect. I think Invisibility versus the type of Detect would work, but I was looking for other opinions, confirmation that I'm thinking about the problem right, that sort of thing. To help, here's an example: Mordhek is a vampire. He knows that there are vampire hunters who can sense vampires (these vampire hunters have Detect: Vampires). Since Mordhek is a most consummate ninja, frequently infiltrating mortal society, he doesn't want Bob Belmont to use his vampire-sense to break Mordhek's cover. Is Invisibility to Detect: Vampires a reasonable way to counter this detect?
  15. Re: Favorite Abuse My favourite reasonable abuse is ~4d6 Suppress Stun, Instant. It's a stunning blast! I think I could get away with it if I had sufficient limitations to make me not do it all the time. Well, there goes my unreasonable abuse: Extra-dimensional movement, usable as attack. 'Hi. How would you like to visit the Elemental Plane of Fire?'
  16. Re: Alternative Disadvantage Concept I think I prefer the complexity of disadvantages. I've never taken a disad I didn't want, but I have thought, 'I need another 15 points to balance my character. What interesting disadvantages could I give him?' I think numerous disadvantages provide a level of complexity and thinking about the character that a simple three traits wouldn't give. It is, however, an interesting system you propose, and personal preference aside it looks like it would work out.
  17. Re: What are you working on? I'm working on Planar HERO: an adaptation of AD&D's Planescape setting for HERO. I'm currently on the 'research source material' stage, though, so don't ask to see any of my work yet. Oh, and I'll be running a modern fantasy based (in part) on Constantine in a couple weeks, but I don't generally consider running a game to be a project.
  18. Re: Meta-game activities I find that my Axe of GMing handles most of these problems nicely.
  19. Re: Adult themes in gaming, a rant of sorts I agree with Dr. Anomaly - be careful. Be sure that your players are okay with such 'adult themes' before you introduce them. I actually had that problem once - a non-graphic scene involving a female character and an incubus - and got the character's player quite upset with me. I apologised profusely, as had I known it would have bothered her at all I would have never done it, but it serves to show that it be important to know what your players find acceptable.
  20. Re: Suppress on Characteristics Want to make it more fun? Add AoE or Explosion. I prefer Explosion for this one, personally, just for the imagery of a 'stun bomb'.
