  1. Damn ! "Zen Archer" beat me to it ! Well I second the motion !
  2. Fabulous five ! I want a "fabulous SIX" with Pat in the mix as well !
  3. In case anyone doesn't know "Dynamite" comics publishes comic versions of both "The Shadow" and "The Spider"!
  4. I was in the city today and , while browsing in a second hand bookshop, encountered some "Doc Savage" comics from a company that I hadn't heard of "Millenium Comics". I don't know how old they are, and the art is only so-so; but comics featuring "Doc" and company are always welcome. I can't find a date on them however.
  5. I've just read "Playing For Keeps" by Mur Lafferty., a superhero story in the tradition of "Mystery Men" (at least the movie) with a bunch of characters with seemingly useless "superpowers" have to save the day. I really enjoyed it.
  6. Good luck with the pulp game "RJB". Please let us know how it goes, what the characters are like etc.
  7. I recently read "Treasures Of Tartary" a collection of stories by Robert E Howard. A very mixed bag including a couple of "Eastern Adventure" type stories, a couple of western stories and a pirate yarn. Not Howard's best work but still worth reading.
  8. I've just finished "Treasures Of Tartary" by Robert E Howard. A rather odd collection including some of Howard"s "eastern adventure" stories, a couple of western tales and a pirate yarn..
  9. Well I wouldn't call most of Dick's stuff "Pulp". E E Smith or the early John W Campbell on the other hand.
  10. "Pardon me boy, is that the lair of Great Cthulu ?"
  11. "RJB" Have you read any of the recent "Doc Savage" novels published by Altus Press ? How do they compare to the "classic" tales ?
  12. Well the thing that I have discovered about the term "pulp" is that people define it for themselves. I wouldn't call Dick's work "pulp" personally, nor "The Hunger Games" but, if you want to consider it as such go right ahead. "Pulp" is a useful "catch all" term for exciting, fast moving stories of high adventure !
  13. I've just finished "Ghosts Of Manhatten" by George Mann. It is described as "Steampunk" but, apart from a few cosmetic details I would describe it as a "Pulp" (or at least "Neopulp") story. I know there is at least one sequel and I enjoyed this one enough (the hero is a "Shadow" like dark avenger, with a few more gadgets) to read more.
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Have you tried the sequel "Villains Inc" ?
  15. Re: 10 Lost Cities and Mythical Civilisations I've got that one, but haven't got around to reading it yet.
  16. Re: Foxbat airplane I've always imagined "Foxbat" wanting something a bit more distinctive than an ordinary fighter jet. Something like "Airboy's" plane from the comics or the nazi ornithopter type planes from "Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow" seem more his style !
  17. Re: Pulp Hero Resources Looks like they saved Hitler's brain ; and gave it to Gorilla Grodd !
  18. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Not actually a "Star Trek" novel. I have not read any of the Star Trek novels.
  19. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ?
  20. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ? What type of stories are in the Howard Omnibus ? Given that, like most pulp writers, he wrote in many different genres it would be interested to know if there are boxing and western stories (for example) included in an omnibus.
  21. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I just read "Starfarers" by Vonda McIntyre. Interesting in that it was involved with the possible politics of interstellar flight, but ultimately a bit disappointing.
  22. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ? I've just read "Doc Voodoo: Aces and Eights" by Dale Lucas. Gangsters, voodoo and a "dark avenger" with a pair of blazing automatics ! Set in Harlem in the 1920's with a mostly black cast. Good stuff ! Written in 2011 and published by "Beating Windward Press". I hope that we will see more of this character in the future.
  23. Re: Pulp Hero Resources Are the day old chicks going cheap ?
  24. Re: What Fiction Book (other than Science Fiction or Fantasy) have you recently finis Have any of the T V movies (I think they were done as such) been shown in your area ? I found them enjoyable , but I haven't read any of the books.
