  1. Please Lucius, don't start THAT debate again. I've run out of large cans to put the worms back into !
  2. I've got a character in my Pulp campaign who uses a Webley.455, but I think that it is the more standard, long barrel version and another who uses a Broomhandle Mauser, yet another who favours a Savage Automatic (the .380 I think) and one who doesn't like to use guns at all (she's a knife girl !)
  3. Another resource about Irish crime in the United States is an old television show entitled (I think) "Paddywhacked". I saw it years ago and have no idea whether it might be available or not.
  4. Have you ever seen the movie "The Red Tent" ? It seems to be about the later flight by Nobile that ended in disaster (provided that I am remembering it correctly ).
  5. Another point to be remembered is that, at least in Chicago, their were a lot of Irish mobsters in the 20's before the Sicilians under Capone and company pushed them out.
  6. "Martian Manhuntress" seems a bit clunky as a name. In the "Young Justice" cartoon they had "Ms Martian", which at least sounds marginally better.
  7. I haven't actually finished it yet but I am reading "The Comic Book Heroes" by Gerard Jones and Will Jacobs. I find it fascinating because it is not so much about the heroes themselves than about the industry of comics and the people who created, write and draw the characters.
  8. I would probably put it in "people With Powers Good" EXCEPT that the lead character has NO powers. She is however the central character in the novel as she is constantly kidnapped by supervillains to force her super powered parents to act (at one point she even refers to herself as "hostage girl"). That's as good a description as I can come up with from memory.
  9. "Chicks In Capes" edited by Lori Gentile & Karen O'Brien Seems to cover several catergories , from Pulp (a "Domino Lady" story), to one with super villainesses as the primary characters ("Kirby Girls" )
  10. "Better To Die A Hero" Michael Van Dagger Sounds a bit as if it is about "people with powers" but some of them at least seem to WANT to be superheroes.
  11. I wonder how you would classify "After The Golden Age" by Carrie Vaughn ? The heroine is the daughter of two supers, but has no powers herself and works as a lawyer. She saves the day more with her brain than anything else (if I am remembering correctly). However a number of the other characters in the book are super powered and seem to fit the traditional hero/villain archetypes.
  12. "Hey "The Arc" I really liked "Devil's Cape" has Rogers written any sequels ? If not could he be persuaded to ?
  13. "Super Stories Of Heroes and Villains" edited by Claude Lalumiere(seems to fit more than one catergory)
  14. "Heroine Addiction" Jennifer Matarese From the blurb it sounds like a retired superheroine forced back onto "the game" by circumstances.
  15. Er I am embarrassed to say that I haven't actually READ this yet, so I can't tell you.
  16. "How To Succeed In Evil" Patrick E McLean (apparently there is a sequel "How To Succeed In Evil : Hostile Takeover" .No blurb on the back cover, so I can't give any idea of what it is about)
  17. Oh there is another one in the "ihero" universe "The Power Within" by Frank Fradella. Also (but not in the same universe) "Just Cause" by Ian Thomas Healy
  18. Another one that I have is "Show Me A Hero" by Sean Taylor , which seems to have originated as an online project , something called the" ihero universe" ?
  19. "Playing For Keeps" Mur Lafferty (one off, as far as I know), :Steelheart" Brandon Sanderson (also one off), "Paranormals" series Christopher Andrews (at least two volumes ("Paranormals" and "Paranormals : We Are Not Alone") (all seem to be concerning superheros (and villains) "Playing For Keeps" is actually about a group of characters who seem to have useless powers, but end up being the balance between ruthless super villains and arrogant super heroes). "Super Heroes" Edited by Rich Horton (an anthology of 16 superhero stories)
  20. Just read "Queen Victoria : Demon Hunter" by A E Moorat (that HAS to be a pseudonym !) The Demons eating the M P's was fun !
  21. I know that it doesn't have anything to do with REAL zeppelins but in 2004 Wheatland Press (I think) published an anthology "All Star Zeppelin Adventure Stories". Might be worth checking out for Zeppelin fans (Yes, I have a copy and no I haven't read it yet)
  22. :)For The Hulk, "Excitable Boy" Warren Zevon
  23. "Empire Of Ivory" Naomi Novik. Part of the "Temeraire" series. The Napoleonic Wars ,with dragons !
  24. For the D C villain "The Shade" (or Marvel's "Blackout") "Paint It Black" by The Rolling Stones.
