  1. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I just read "The Tomb" by F Paul Wilson. Good horror/thriller. I think that I am going to like reading the further adventures of "Repairman Jack"!
  2. Re: The Powerpuff Women (or "Grown Up in Townsville") Unfortunately I don't think that it is protected by cute kindergarten girls with super powers. (The fact that Australia HAS a Townsville always made me smile while I watched the show)
  3. Re: DC and Marvel: What Makes Them Different? Calling it a "Senses Shattering Slugfest" is a very Marvel description.
  4. Re: Costumes I thought that "Wonder Woman's" all white jumpsuit costume that she wore in her "non super powered phase" was pretty dire. "Paste Pot Pete's" blue outfit with a bloated (because it was full of paste ?) brown vest with gun attached was hopeless as well; then there is the prediliction for purple that was suffered by so many Marvel villains in the 60's !
  5. Re: Translating Into Egyptian, Babylonian, Or Mayan Dammit ! I KNEW I shouldn't have relied on my "Complete Idiot's Guide to Ancient Languages" !
  6. Re: Translating Into Egyptian, Babylonian, Or Mayan Let's see "funny looking book, man with bitten backside, handbag, handbag, silverfish cactus" No problem!
  7. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Well being in the northern hemisphere, I am not surprised. We will probably have the opposite down here.
  8. Re: Spinning Pulp Racism Into Something Productive
  9. Re: For whom the (dinner) bell tolls... You know I had never given any thought to what "St Barbara" likes to eat. Given her slight stature and athletic prowess it is probably not very much and features a lot of high energy healthy foods. (Exactly the opposite to the person typing this, I might add ! Roleplaying is just great for pretending to be something , or someone, you are not !)
  10. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ? Just read another "Hardluck Hannigan" novel by Bill Craig "The Sky Masters". Again, delightfully pulpy with giant nazi aircraft carrier zepplins, flying saucers, a two fisted American adventurer hero, a beautiful English heroine and a mysterious character who seems to have magical powers.
  11. Re: looking for non-Causasian pulp roles At least one black American pilot seems to have fought for Ethiopia against the Italians in 1936.
  12. Re: Spinning Pulp Racism Into Something Productive Interesting. In my pulp game the players are soon to encounter the black community in New York for the first time (apart from the very large black doorman who works at "The Adventurers' Club"). It should be interesting to see how they react (although the characters are mostly non Americans)
  13. Re: Russian Nazca-like Space Elk discovered If it is a "stone structure" rather than a carving I don't see any real similarity to the Nazca Lines at all.
  14. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ? I'm almost finished "The Amulet" by William Meikle. A Scottish private detective,a missing amulet, mysterious murders, crazed cultists and ceremonies on remote Scottish islands to unleash nameless C'thulhoid horrors. What's not to like ?
  15. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Oh yes, currently reading "Thunderbird Falls" C E Murphy (second in the "Urban Shaman" series) and enjoying it.
  16. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I still haven't read the "Thomas Covenant" books (despite having had them for years). I agree with you Lankhmar IS fantastic, some of the best "Swords & Sorcery" ever written!
  17. Re: Badass of the Week: Jack Lucas Especially if my favorite U S marine General Smedley D Butler is on duty that day !
  18. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Recently read "The Amazon and the Warrior"by Judith Hand (The Trojan war from the point of view of the Amazons) and enjoyed it. Now onto "War Of Honor" by David Webber, the longest book in the series so far, over 900 pages !
  19. Re: Weird Adventures -- A Different Kind of Pulp Setting I got lucky with "G8" and got a set of seven of them , all neatly wrapped in plastic. Unfortunately, given how many books I haven't read yet, they are still sitting neatly wrapped in plastic on my bookshelves, unread.
  20. Re: What "Pulp" have you read lately ? I just got a hold of "Tales From The Hanging Monkey" edited by Ron Fortier. Looks very similar to the old T V show "Tales Of The Gold Monkey" (I show which I really enjoyed). Published by "Airship 27 Productions".
  21. Re: looking for non-Causasian pulp roles Another idea would be an African (or Australian aboriginal) "tracker" who had worked with the police in his native country.
  22. Re: looking for non-Causasian pulp roles That would be sheep STATION "Barton". We don't go in for "ranches " over here. On another track a "faithful Indian manservant" possibly with a knowledge of martial arts, or even some mystical abilities might make an interesting non Caucasian character.
  23. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? A lot of people say that about the remake of "True Grit" but I actually preferred the performance by Kim Darby in the original. Still a worthy remake mind you, but I missed some of the classic lines particularly the "Fill your hands you son of a bitch !" line from Rooster after he has been called a "One eyed fat man" just before the running gun battle starts.
  24. Re: US Color-coded war plans, part I: Plan Crimson, the invasion of Canada With respect I would submit that the British M1 (and M2 I think) submarine from World War (or possibly just after) which was armed with a 12" gun was the biggest gunned sub ever.
