  1. For the cast of "Birds Of Prey" how about "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" ?
  2. Er for Thor perhaps the old song (I remember it from the sixties, it may be older) "If I Had A Hammer" ?
  3. People interested in a slightly "odd" take on lost cities (including Nan Madol" should try reading David Hatcher Childress' series "Lost Cities Of...." published by "Adventures Unlimited Press". Nan Madol is mentioned in "Lost Cities Of Ancient Lemuria and the Pacific"
  4. There are TWO classes of "Royal Sovereign" battleships in the Royal navy around the time of World War 1. One is the 15'' gunned dreadnaughts, the other is the survivors of a class of pre dreadnaught battleships; one of which was kept in commission, heeled to increase her gun range, and used as a compliment to the monitors that were bombarding the Germans on the coast of Belgium; I believe she was renamed "Redoubtable" when her original name was taken by one of the new class of battleship.
  5. Not quite on topic , but "Dynamite" has just published a new "Doc Savage" comic. Looks good, particularly with the first page showing Doc giving a lecture to a class at Princeton , that included Albert Einstein !
  6. There is a bit of "Pulp" or neopulp out there if you look around. "Moonstone" has produced a number of anthologies featuring "The Phantom" "Green Hornet", "Captain Midnight", "The Spider" and others; "Altus Press" has reprinted "Thunder Jim Wade" and "Wildcat Books" has done "Captain Hazzard" adventures. Plus the new "Doc Savage" novels from "Altus Press" and "The Spider" stories and novels from "Baen Books". Happy hunting !
  7. The price for a "trade" type paperback (slightly larger than normal, the size the new "Doc Savage" novels are in), in Sydney is about A$22 at the moment; "normal" sized paperbacks are about A$15.
  8. There almost seems to be a quiet little sub genre developing of superhero (and villain) novels and books of short stories often by authors that I had never heard of before and published by obscure companies that are also new to me. "Tachyon Publications", "Rising Star Visionary Press", "Prime Publications" are all examples of companies of which I had never heard that have published such books. Authors such as Mur Lafferty, Kenneth C Harmon and Christopher Andrews are also new on my radar. I have only read Lafferty's "Playing For Keeps" but I enjoyed it and will get around to the other writers mentioned sometime.
  9. Ancient Lego bricks ? Aha ! This proves that the Vikings discovered the Americas !
  10. I notice that the title of the thread and the question asked by the originator of the thread are slightly different. I answered the former. Oops ! My bad.
  11. They easily could be; have that "slightly larger" format that print on demand titles tend to use. On another (Doc Savage related) topic I read recently that "Dynamite" are set to produce a new "Doc Savage" comic. As I already enjoy their "Spider", "Shadow" and "Green Hornet" comics I will be looking forward to this !
  12. Recently read "At All Costs" by David Weber. I enjoy the "Honor Harrington" books and this one was particularly interesting, with a "third party" manipulating proceedings from behind the scenes to cause chaos.
  13. Or a Dvorak keyboard ?
  14. Well so far Altus Press has published "The Desert Demons", "Horror In Gold", "The Infernal Buddha", "Death's Dark Domain" and "Skull Island", all of which I have and I think that another one is due out soon.
  15. Now I admit to not having seen a lot of "Mirror Master's" more recent appearances but I would have thought that he had a variable power pool with an obvious accessible focus (mirrors) limitation.
  16. Not quite an "off switch" but "St Barbara's" powers (which mostly simulate fireworks), are useless in water (or at least most of them are). I have yet to find out what a really heavy rainstorm might do to her powers.
  17. The version of "Champions" that I play is a personalised one developed (from the original rules I think) by the GM and no published version exists. Character generation takes even longer under these rules than it does for standard "Champions" but, one the character has been created, it feels very "alive". Certainly "St Barbara" has a convoluted background , but that was MY choice (and it gives her some fun attitudes) but I think that she is more of a "real" person because of it. The character generation system allows me to use my imagination, and I like that !
  18. Why have Punisher fight Aquaman ? Surely Sub Mariner would be the obvious opponent ? On the other hand , how about Punisher vs Deadshot ?
  19. Most of the humour in "Doc Savage" seems to have been provided by Monk and Ham, as was done in the earlier movie,. I agree about the script needing to be good; the obvious person to get to write it would be someone like Will Murray, who writes most of the new "Doc Savage" novels being published by Altus Press.
  20. Recently got "Skull Island" delivered from "Amazon", but I am WAY behind on reading "Doc". I started "The Sargasso Ogre" yesterday and find it a little bit different to some of the other books with a more violent Doc visiting retribution on the bad guys. Another reference book that people might like to look at is "Bobb" Cotter's "A History Of The Doc Savage Adventures In Pulps, Comics.Fanzines,Radio and Film" (McFarland& Company, 2009).
  21. Another writer that I remember fondly from my youth; particularly his collaborations with the late C M Kornbluth. Still, he had a long and distinguished career as a writer and an editor.
  22. t's see. Recently "Wraith" by Phaedra Weldron (not too bad, will read the rest of the series), "Brother To Dragons Companion to Owls" by Jane Linskold (really enjoyed this one,but it is hard to describe why; maybe I just empathised with the lead characters) and currently "Hunted By The Others" by Jess Haines a little bit slow but I like the background (were's, vampires and mages having come "our of the closet" and what that does to the legal system, plus murder and just a touch of romance)
  23. Oh and the other obvious question could be "What has John Sunlight been up top lately ?"
  24. Perhaps we could have Doc and Co facing off against ruthless corporations who are misusing science rather than against some criminal genius who wants to rule the world ?
