  1. I've pretty much adopted the same strategy. And I'm thinking oligarchy of wealthiest families, given the income disparity data.
  2. He won't win. But damn, Lincoln Riley. That's three times in a row OU sent their QB to the Heisman ceremony. Win two in a row, finalist third time, three separate QBs.
  3. Washington State is playing Air Force in the Cheeze It Bowl, sadly.
  4. Good lord, yes! Already giving us the gift of entertainment.
  5. Speaking of things that make me laugh, check this out... Lane Kiffin (Joey Freshwater) as head coach for a school that embraces a party atmosphere, leads with a "Lane Train" hype video, and who greets him on the tarmac with "get you a burner phone" (not even kidding). I was originally offended, that this terrible human being with a 23-14 record at FAU is being given this opportunity after leaving Tennessee in flames, being fired and not allowed to ride the bus home from U$C, and processed by Saban (I'll refrain from the rumors around what led to that), but have since come around. If for no other reason, this will be entertaining. Like a dumpster fire train wreck.
  6. OU was disinterested in the cotton bowl matchup, figured I'd borrow that from the SEC folks we thrashed in recent years. Good for the goose...
  7. Big 12 bowl opponents: OU- LSU Baylor- Georgia Texas- Utah OSU- Texas A&M Iowa State- Notre Dame K State- Navy That is some tough sledding, right there.
  8. LSU-Oklahoma Ohio State-Clemson That works for me. Bring on the Tigahs. Let's get it on! The Oregon-Wisky Rose Bowl will be fun too. I actually really like the committee choices this year.
  9. Well, you don't have to go back quite that far. 2000-2005 was wicked defense. But yeah, it's been the wrong side of mediocre for the better part of a decade. Two busted plays aside, they were pretty solid tonight. And a top 25 defense at OU could've maybe won a national championship two years ago with Mayfield. So let's see how they do.
  10. I'm good with either Ohio State or LSU. Nice come back from the Buckeyes tonight, they are not as scary as before that game. With the new and improved defense for Oklahoma...
  11. Worst case scenario they drop to 4, and play LSU, with the three selected conference champions ahead of them. Depending on weight of conference championship status by the committee. If they got blown out, worse case is considerably worse than that. But yeah, win or lose they're almost certainly in the playoffs. I do think this game gives serious film study opportunities to every team that plays them, they have vulnerabilities in their secondary. First half was really poor. Edit: on reflection it's probably better for OU to have the Buckeyes win. I'd rather match up with the Ohio State team playing tonight than Clemson tonight. Anything can happen, but between the two...
  12. Not me. I'm stunned. 21-7 going into the half, Wisconsin. Ohio State is not who I thought they were. Totally stunned.
  13. I feel bad for anyone that does not like Oesch's die Dritten.
  14. I think Hurts is fun to watch, but definitely no Mayfield or Murray. But then again they both won the Heisman and went right at the top end of the NFL draft, so hardly a scathing indictment. Don't know what to think about the selection issue yet.
  15. I agree with this wholeheartedly. This was in 1999, not the Great Depression. It's frankly unreasonable. Just bringing my perspective, that things are actually largely better now for the current generation (which I might add I see as a good thing). As it was better for me than in prior ones. The data in the census report supports that as well, "arc of the universe" blah blah blah. Gradually increasing median household income for both genders over time adjusted for inflation. Individual experiences will vary, of course, I'm talking aggregate vs narrative. My professional life is dedicated to helping people who are very vulnerable, and often disadvantaged. Older adults and adults over 50 are practically speaking the most at risk, they're the largest population of homeless individuals in our region (and are predominantly white). Nobody much worries about what happens to them, which is damn tragic. Awful things happen daily, and so do wonderful ones. Everyone tends to focus on the bad stuff, which is a cognitive survival imperative. But I digress, still don't own a home. I rent. Had 3 kids, definitely could not afford to - I don't regret that at all. They're a treasure in my home. Things are pretty good for me, although that could change. I do not feel like it was particularly easy, and battled some not insignificant despair in my 30s trying to make it. Don't see any sign this generation won't make their mark as well, in their own time.
  16. Honestly, I'm 50 and was struggling to get by until 40. I clearly remember not being able to afford milk for my kid until payday on Friday (it was Tuesday) when I was 34. Sold plasma for food when I was trying to pay my way through graduate school while working nights and getting on average 5 hours of sleep (that was age 29). Bad times. That was true for most generations, and while it sucks and I sympathize, it's not particularly unusual or unexpected. Why would that be different regardless of economy? Most folks are establishing themselves professionally in their mid 20s-30s. I realize that perhaps sounds harsh, I'm genuinely puzzled why anyone would expect an easier experience. That's how it always has been, so far as I can tell. Likely better for me than my grandfather (refugee manual laborer, eventually technical enough to work in a machine shop), or father (managed to get a college degree, built the house I grew up in). I'd be interested in data on that. Is median income adjusted for inflation better or worse than in past decades? By age? Edit: here's some data per the US Census. Looks like median income (in 2018 adjusted dollars) overall is increasing, unless I'm reading it wrong. https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/income-poverty/historical-income-people.html
  17. Says it right in my name, not making any protestations of nobility here. ๐Ÿ˜ I can cite scripture for my purpose. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
  18. This is, in my opinion, spot on. I have been horrified by the debates in this context, the positions espoused by candidates are not in my opinion likely to win hearts and minds in Wisconsin, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc. Democrats need to worry a lot less about New York and California. They'll win those states walking away. They need to win the darned election, and to do that they need to appeal more broadly to the midwestern states and yes, even to white, middle class voters.
  19. One might even say "why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thy own eye?" ... were one the sort of person to say such a thing. Or reference loud yodeling, that's always a good option too.
  20. In their own way, Alabama unites us all
  21. It says "evil" in the name. Change isn't my theme.
  22. Alabama in 2019 has lost to the Clemson Tigers, LSU Tigers, and Auburn Tigers. Saban better hope to God they donโ€™t play the Memphis Tigers.
