  6. Re: And now a Math question - figuring out travel times... Kraven, there are a few questions that need to be addressed before you can answer that. What is the spacial relationship ratio between normal space and space in the tunnel? What is the variable that is affecting the tunnel lengths as you get closer to your destination? Is the spacial relationship changing as the tunnel lengths shorten?

  14. Re: Human Power Generator I never thought about using the EM field. Check this out, I was thinking about this effect and how one of my character would look if written up with it. The character in question has 40 Stun, 40 END, & 7 personal REC: Biopowerplant:Endurance Reserve (140 END, 10 REC) Reserve: (24 Active Points); Side Effects (Side Effect always occurs whenever some specific act is performed; When wired to provide electricity, she loses control of her END reserve and her personal recovery; -1/4) Side Effect, listed in the order it would be most disadvantageous for the owner of the power: Endurance Reserve (28 END, 17 REC) Reserve: , Side Effects (Side Effect does a predefined amount of damage; Loses 3 Stun for every 2 END used; +0), Usable By Other (+1/4) {This represents compulsory burning Stun to provide END for whoever has her strung up; this assumes she is at full stun when used, and the combined REC of her END Reserve + her Personal REC} plus Endurance Reserve (40 END), Usable By Other (+1/4) {This represents you burning her Personal END} plus Endurance Reserve (140 END), Usable By Other (+1/4) {This represents her END Reserve energy}
  15. Re: Human Power Generator The problem with Susceptibility is that after you are KO'd you start to die and being dead makes you a bad power generator. The SFX is actually electricity.
  16. Re: Human Power Generator Previously on the topic:
  17. Re: Human Power Generator I'm trying to develop this as a negative thing, as she can be compelled to give up her electrical power. Let me set up a possible situation: Generica, the evil generic supervillianess, has a "Death Ray" that needs powering, but plugging the "Death Ray" into the grid would alert the authorities when she creates a blackout. "Hmmm, how could I power my 'Death Ray'? Ah yes, that heroine, Electrica, she'll do nicely." Yes, I know that she could build a electricity transfer gadget and drain Electrica's END, but the point I was trying to reach is that I'm looking for a limitation for her END Reserve to show the relative ease by which she can be used in that manner by anyone, even Jimbob with a pair of jumper cables.
  18. A character with an END Reserve that can be used externally as easily as someone with a PS: Electrician skill wiring her up. When wired in that way and connected to something that will draw power, she feels non-lethal pain and the person in question gets full control of the reserve. It has been suggested that disadvantages can be used or an appropriate side effect, but I want to see suggestions from everyone to get a general consensus. I personally am leaning toward a limitation, but I'd appreciate a breakdown on how you get your numbers for whatever option you choose. Thanks in advance, Archie
  19. Someone had to bring up Density Increase and having enough density to be effectively the same as Neutronium during the Hero Chat last night, so I went ahead and calculated the gravitational pull of a neutronium man. Human: 80 kg. Neutronium: 4 * 10 ^ 17 kg/m^3 The neutronium man, N-Man for short, with a volume of 0.08 cubic meters, would have a mass of 8e+15 kg Now, with the help of Google (put "((Gravitational constant) * (8*10^15 kg))/((.001 km)^2)" into Google and you'll see), the gravity at the surface of N-man, assuming N-Man's 'surface' is 1 meter from the center, is 533,840 meters per second per second. For comparison, Earth's gravity is 9.80665 meters per second per second. Now, according to one of Newton's Laws, the effect of gravity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance, so at 2 meters away is 133460 meters per second per second. Changing the number to hexes we get 66730 hexes per second per second. Now, I went ahead and plugged the numbers into a Google Docs spreadsheet which I'd love for people to read and comment on. Now at 165 hexes away, N-Man's gravity would finally be at less than .5 g which I think is enough to say an average person can resist easily with their casual STR. What do you think people?
  20. Re: Generic SF Universe Project So, have we come to any consensus on FTL travel?
  21. Re: Generic SF Universe Project But by understanding the way the universe works, we can bring the world to life. In the end, how you build it isn't as important as being able immerse yourself in the game environment.
  22. Re: Generic SF Universe Project It looks like all the principles of FTL travel you have essentially work by tunneling; piercing the dimensional boundaries between Normal Space and the different layers of Hyperspace. This is what I'm proposing: In the beginning, Low Energy Hyperspace(LEHS) was used to travel to the various systems out there and was the only way to get to different systems until engineering principles allow the creation a huge hyperspace engines that enabled High Energy Hyperspace(HEHS) to be used, though expensive to make. These hyperjump gates, or just jump gates for short, facilitated trade between different systems but also made the companies that created these gates a lot of money. The fee collected for using the jump gates are split between the owners of both endpoints of the gate. Jump Gates also act as beacons to by which the other jump gates in the network can lock onto to make the quantum tunnel between them. Ships in the quantum tunnel can use the hyperspace beacons to determine time to destination. The jump gates also act as communication links between different systems in the network though because of the expense of maintaining the jump gates, FTL communication, while extremely fast, is also expensive. Ships using LEHS and HEHS cannot change their courses in midflight unless they pay a similar expenditure of energy used to get into hyperspace to pop out of hyperspace. While LEHS craft can do that, ships in HEHS cannot do that unless they have the large engines to make that trip in the first place. Now, as hyperspace engines got more advanced, they found they could instead of piercing the hyperspace boundary, they could bend or warp space to enter into that same quantum energy state. This gave the benefit of being able to exit that quantum energy state at any time. It also allows the ability to change direction. FTL maneuvering now becomes an option. As Warp Drive technology becomes more advanced, the principles of warping space combined with quantum tunneling. In other words, wormholes. Wormhole technology uses principles of gravitation to pinch the space between two points closer so a quantum tunnel can be made to pierce both points in space simultaneously, but this can only happen between locations where space is weakest or, for faster travel, around areas of heavy gravitational forces, such as supergiants or singularities. For the absolutely fastest travel being between two singularities and the most dangerous.
