  1. There isn't always a single relevant skill. And then there are cases like this 3 4) +3 with Concealment (6 Active Points); Limited Power Only to hide knives (-1) If I want to have a Skill, and then a bonus that applies only under conditions or is otherwise limited, I don't see an elegant way around using Skill Levels. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary points out that Riding is DEX based and Animal Handler is PRE based and a Skill Level with both seems reasonable......
  2. Unless I missed something, nothing anyone has said in this thread pertains to anything except Combat Skill Levels. OCV and DCV being purchasable Characteristics may be a reason to rethink the costing or even the necessity for Combat Skill Levels, but I don't see where it impacts other Skill Levels at all. Lucius Alexander +1 to Animal Handling and Riding, Limited: only with palindromedaries
  3. "Did you see the sun rise today?" "Why yes, I did." "Thank you." BANG! Lucius Alexander The palindromedary thinks if that scene isn't famous it ought to be.
  4. Now I find myself pondering a fantasy setting in which an insidious Godlike being whispers into peoples minds when they spend time in the light. It would influence people to fear the darkness, to be more prone to anger and paranoia especially about the darkness, and eventually drive them to wanting to dispel darkness whenever possible and attack those who dwell in darkness. Those affected could recover from minor exposure by spending a lot of time in darkness, and a but more effect could be countered by magic, but one could be corrupted beyond salvation. Lucius Alexander the palindromedary starts singing a Joni Mitchell song
  5. Ever get the feeling the Cosmos is trolling us? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary does
  6. Yes, it would make a difference. Because if they're not in a framework, it's harder to explain how you have a 5 pt level that applies to both. Lucius Alexander On the level with a palindromedary
  7. Thanks; I was too dense to get where you were coming from. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary uses a Drain Density Increase on me now....
  8. From The Book of the Subgenius copyright 1983 p 155 of the 1987 edition "Kill. Kill for the love of killing. Kill for the love of Kali. Kill. Kill for fun. Kill to stay Free, Like a Man. To Make America Great! Kill..." Lucius Alexander The palindromedary notes this is taken out of context, but when dealing with The Church of the SubGenius, context doesn't necessarily help.
  9. I don't have the Enemies book but I strongly suspect that Black Paladin's mace does NOT have a STR minimum. You seem to be under the impression that because the melee weapons in fantasy have "0 END" that they don't cost END. The DO still cost END, because they have a STR Minimum. So yes, swinging swords is tiring, because you have to exert STR to swing one and therefore you pay for the STR you exert. Sure you could make warriors pay still more END on top of the END for STR being used, but I don't see a reason to do so unless the sword has really bad ergonomics as someone already suggested. Lucius Alexander And a palindromedary tagline to show this is the END of the post
  10. The reason the sword is bought to Zero END is that it ALSO has STR Minimum. You will end up paying END for the STR to use it. And why would you pay MORE ENDurance to swing a sword than to swing anything else around using that same amount of STR? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary buys RECovery, claiming it's a means to an END.
  11. So everyone gets a dose of corruption overnight while it's dark, that they shed over the course of the day? Does this only effect people, or are nocturnal creatures like owls and bats and moths assumed to be EEEVILLL? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says, please enlighten us about this dark force of nature
  12. Powder of Portal Perception: (Total: 7 Active Cost, 1 Real Cost) Access (Hidden (-2 to Skill Rolls)) (7 Active Points); OAF Expendable (Very Difficult to obtain new Focus; -1 1/2), 3 Charges (-1 1/4), Gestures (Requires both hands; -1/2), Incantations (-1/4) (Real Cost: 1) Lucius Alexander Did a palindromedary eat my tagline?
  13. Hiking Boots: (Total: 7 Active Cost, 3 Real Cost) Naked Advantage: Costs Endurance Only To Activate up to 7 m Running (+1/4), No Gravity Penalty (+1/2) for up to 7 Active Points, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (7 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Turn (Post-Segment 12), Only to Activate, To pull boots on; -3/4), IIF (-1/4) (Real Cost: 3) Gripping Boots: (Total: 10 Active Cost, 3 Real Cost) Clinging (normal STR) (10 Active Points); Limited Power Only to not lose footing in slippery conditions (On a more or less horizontal surface; -1 1/2), Extra Time (1 Turn (Post-Segment 12), Only to Activate, To pull boots on; -3/4), IIF (-1/4) (Real Cost: 3) Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says just a couple of items Lucius cobbled together
  14. Sure. Lucius Alexander I'll allow a palindromedary in a tagline
  15. Ranged Feint: (Total: 24 Active Cost, 6 Real Cost) Telekinesis (15 STR), Attack Versus Alternate Defense (Resist with INT not STR; +0) (24 Active Points); Limited Power Cannot damage, move target etc. - only to impose "Grab" penalties on target (-1), Requires A Roll (Skill roll, -1 per 20 Active Points modifier; Jammed; -3/4), Only Works On Limited Types Of Objects Limited Group of Objects (opponents at range; -1/2), Restrainable (-1/2), Conditional Power Can be negated by Tactics, Analyze, or Danger Sense roll (-1/4), Variable Limitations (requires -1/2 worth of Limitations; As per weapon used (charges, etc); -1/4) (Real Cost: 6) The warrior expends a half phase attack action and makes a Skill roll (when this ability is bought select an appropriate Skill such as Tactics or Power Skill: Gunplay) to make a feint that will confuse and mislead an opponent. Mechanically this resolves like a 15 STR Telekinetic Grab against the target's INT rather than STR. The target is at half OCV and half DCV until the warrior's next phase ends. The target also gets to roll Tactics, Danger Sense, or an appropriate Analyze, to negate this ability. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary asks, how does that grab you?
  16. Fang you Berry Much: (Total: 169 Active Cost, 19 Real Cost) Thorns of Legendary Viciousness - Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 2d6, Area Of Effect (1m Radius; +1/4), Constant (+1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), +4 Increased STUN Multiplier (+1), Double Penetrating (x2; +1) (142 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Month, Growing time; -5), Limited Power Only attacks ONCE, when entering hex. Looking for a way to protect your wizard's tower or hermit's cave from wandering monsters like annoying door to door solicitors or even more annoying clueless adventurers? Wondering how to prepare for possible misguided mobs of local peasants with pitchforks? Or have you just granted an entire castle's residents, especially the beautiful princess, the deepest and most restful sleep of their lives and want to make sure no one disturbs their slumber - ever? Upon entering the All but Impassable(tm) area an intruder must make a STR roll at -1 to even force a way in. In the process, they suffer two 1d6 Killing Attacks that are double Penetrating and with +4 STUN Multiplier from the Thorns of Legendary Viciousness(tm) and the STUN damage adds together to make this hedge a truly Stunning addition to any enchanted garden. To avoid backing out - possibly right into an already-passed bush if you have made the hedge several meters thick - the intruder must roll against EGO or CON, again at a -1. This process must be repeated for every hex entered, so a swiftly moving intruder is simply shredded that much faster if the thicket is thick enough. Intruders have been known to stop in terror and confusion, afraid to move until the proprietor or a security patrol arrives to deal with them! Just look at these testimonials! "Perfect for keeping animals and children out of my garden. Except as fertilizer of course." Baba Yaga "Now THAT'S the shrubbery we're talking about!" Knights who Said 'Ni!' "Just what the Doctor ordered!" Igor "Please don't throw me in THAT briar patch" Br'er Rabbit "It's like a nightmare!" Princess Beauty "Maybe this'll keep 'em out of my swamp." Shrek the Ogre "I kinda like those berries." Princess Fiona Now endorsed by BETTER GNOMES AND GARGOYLES magazine. Note: the large and alluringly colored berries of fangberry bushes are ornamental and not meant for Human, Elven, or Dwarven consumption. Berries are known to have thaumaturgic properties and should only be handled by qualified alchemists, druids, witches, and apothecaries licensed to handle magical herbs. We accept no liability. Restful Bed: (Total: 5 Active Cost, 2 Real Cost) Life Support (Immunity: All terrestrial vermin) (5 Active Points); IAF Bulky (-1) (Real Cost: 2) Bedbugs, fleas, and all manner of pests, cannot abide this well made article of furniture. 18. But if Bob is punching and John is shooting, Bob may well run out of END faster... Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says determining balance is apparently not easy.....
  19. If and only if you're going out of your way to make him look that way. Otherwise, Bob gets the same gun John gets, and does the same damage at range. John hits more often at range, but Bob does more damage in melee. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary is playing in a gritty police drama tagline.....
  20. Funny you should say that.My recollection is that I could build a planet busting missile for under 25 pts under 4th, and can do no such munchkinry under 5th or 6th. Lucius Alexander In any edition, I can have a palindromedary tagline
  21. Lucius Alexander My palindromedary ate my post, which is why it's now restricted to the tagline
  22. MISSED point. Additional Martial DCs WILL add to the damage of an NND martial maneuver, which is why it is not the case that they are equivalent to "STR, Limited only for Martial Maneuvers." Lucius Alexander Palindromedary, only for taglines
  23. Not quite. Buying up STR will not improve the damage of NND maneuvers like Nerve Strike. Lucius Alexander Buying a tagline only for palindromedary maneuvers
  24. Not quite. I agree with L Marcus, you don't need Always On, you need the Sense Adder. Otherwise, it may not be exactly as I'd build it but I don't see anything to keep it from working. You might want to buy 360 degrees so nothing magical sneaks up behind you, but that's optional. If all you want is "Magic: Yes or No?" you can save points by dropping Discriminatory, but personally I think it could be useful to know what KIND of enchantment you have before you. Lucius Alexander the palindromedary buys Sense Adder to know if there are any vipers slithering around
  25. Yes. Specifically it's close to making a Detect Magic Sense. Lucius Alexander Detect Palindromedary
