Entertaining but not particularly well played game between Raiders and Packers in Vegas. Raiders win because in the final minute the Packers' QB named Love underthrew a pass into the endzone which the DB had the presence of mind to turn and look for. Not a good season for QBs named Love.

You'd sell a lot more of those if it was "on Beautiful People".

That's a misconception. There are weapons on the pitch, but they and their use must be concealed, that's all. Oh, and casualties are fed to the dropbears.

I acknowledge the truth in what you say, but we have a combination of circumstance with which we are having difficulty dealing. We're still adjusting to my 20-something son moving out (he didn't quite eat 60% of everything prepared, but it seems like it at times), and then augmenting that is the diminished use of food due to my wife's illness. When the leftovers are molding in the refrigerator under their plastic wrap, there's a first-source problem that needs to be addressed.

We got Pittsburgh-Baltimore here, in which I would have preferred to see the Steelers lose but I had very little invested in that game (since my preferred outcome for that one is impossible: both lose with a large body count). OTOH, I would have enjoyed seeing the Saints run it up on Belichek and would have been chanting for 71. Ah well, national networks.

There's a cascade of anecdotes in the Academics thread about methods that don't work ....

Over the years I had friends with doctorates in other disciplines (e.g. aeronautical engineering) indicate they were considering bailing on the corporate world and trying academia. The two big negatives are (1) the pay sucks, and (2) you probably have to deal with Parking Division. The latter is a stronger negative than the former. AFAIK no US university has adequate parking for anyone but regents and VP-level administrators. There are anecdotes from multiple schools about star revenue-sport athletes versus Parking division. One guy at Washington (in the late 70s) seemed to have a box of parking violations all to himself (i.e., they'd taken his out of the usual alphabetical sorting cabinets), according to the story I heard. At Texas (early 80s), the football team's tickets reputedly were handled entirely separately and taken care of by other means.

Unfortunately, the most successful style varies among people, partly because individuals' native aptitudes vary.

How'd you escape?

If you have massive amounts of leftovers in your fridge, you should probably prepare smaller meals.
