  2. Re: what types of injuries could result from forge accidents? That'd have to be a pretty strong lodestone. Actually, what you really don't want to get in your eye is concrete. Apparently it gets lodged in there and slowly dissolves the surrounding tissue. I'd expect an experienced medieval blacksmith to be covered with many little (and some larger) burns and scars. Losing an eye to splinters, or losing hearing over time, would not be uncommon either.
  3. Re: The cranky thread I think your pipes would need to actually burst in order to attain "epic fail".
  4. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well... okay, let me get my camera and drop my trousers...
  5. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Bazza, why do you hate kittens?
  6. Re: WWYCD Fantasy HERO Edition #2: Sophie's Choice Shoot the hostage. Seriously, the party (and the campaign) are screwed because there's no way Aciarren, being Pure Evil, is going to give up his hostage. Destroy the sword and send him a fake, that's about our only chance.
  7. Re: The cranky thread Who took round 1?
  8. Re: The cranky thread Either that or it's worked its way through the esophageal lining and severed a nerve, while you bleed to death internally.
  9. Re: The cranky thread I got an ice cube lodged in my esophagus once. A different kind of pain, for a few minutes until it melted.
  10. Re: The cranky thread It's such a long list. I'm probably going to have to subcontract some of this work out.
  11. Re: The cranky thread The guys who sold fake baby formula in China, resulting in the death by starvation of a couple dozen infants, are really high on my list of people to kill. But the poisoned pet food folks are on there too.
  12. Re: Musings on Random Musings Well, I know that yellow and red ribbons (or bandanas) already have meaning, but what does a white one mean?
  13. Re: Flamepunk!! Use of the other elements could be illegal, their adherents outlawed or otherwise downtrodden. I can especially see why use of water elementalism would be discouraged in that setting.
  14. Re: Why horses? Since it's fiction, you could come up with any reason for the superiority of horses as mounts in a given campaign. Probably the simplest is trainability--in real life, zebras simply cannot be tamed, even though they seem to be the same animal except for the paint. Elephants can be tamed, but not to the degree that horses can; even the most carefully trained elephant was easily spooked in battle, and modern working elephants go berserk on occasion. Semi-tamable predators like bears and big cats can't be kept in large groups lest they kill each other. Conversely, in fantasy it's pretty easy to handwave all this stuff away and make wyverns or wolves or tauntauns or dragons or armored polar bears the superior mount.
  15. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread The man is finally here to fix the thermostat in my office! Maybe I won't have to spend my days shivering in 66˚F chill any more!
  16. Re: Musings on Random Musings It pretty obviously is, but that doesn't mean the scale is way off necessarily.
  17. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread You're welcome.

  19. Re: The cranky thread Certain stories in the news lately have been really, deeply, horrific. Help me out here, people, fill up the Nice Happy thread or something so I don't think mankind is completely doomed. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7009723603 http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jc9E7RRBYrk0zhFlkZfLra35mVhAD8U6GE1G3 http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080117/BREAKING/80117001/1314
  20. Re: What gives the "rightful" king the right? Not to politicize the thread further, but as an American I am somewhat offended by concepts like "laws of primogeniture", "royal blood", "superior race", and anything else that suggests superiority by birth. So my idea of a "good guy" kingdom would require elections or at least some sort of commoner-based checks on a hereditary ruler's power.
  21. Re: WWYCD Fantasy HERO Edition #1: The Princess Shell Game "All right, who here wants a cut of the reward? Raise your hand. Okay, you. We'll take you back to the castle and tell the king you hit your head and won't ever be the same. That should hold us for a few days. After a fortnight you sneak us into the castle and up to the king's chambers, and we'll do the rest. We'll just take all the loot in the castle, you can have the kingdom. My queen."
