  1. Re: Champions Jargon I don't know what's worse. Three heroes simultaneously attacking an agent and obliterating him, or that it happens often enough you have a phrase for it.
  2. Re: Calling All Evil GMs There are, of course, the money making opportunities presented to the hero. The stereotypical rich guy and the terminal condition he or a loved one has. Naturally he seeks out the hero thinking that his money can buy anything. Or there are the shady organisations that have worked out that a healing touch is ideal for torture that does not leave a mark. Of course no true hero would involve themselves with anything like that.

  4. Re: Calling All Evil GMs To do this in a slightly different way. The press first run with story making out how the heroes saved so many people and how grateful everybody should be. The story then runs on claiming how the supers will always be there to perform their miracle healing when disaster strikes, despite what the heroes may try to claim. Then when the next disaster does strike and the heroes are not avalaible or are unwilling to help a tide of resentment is unleashed against them for letting down the people. All of it pushed by media that likes nothing more than a good story. Soon the heroes are villified for their uncaring attitude.
  5. Re: Ghostbusters HERO Why, thank you.
  6. Hi All Having been following the WWYCD threads recently I've noticed that some people are presenting the actions of a fistful of heroes; as many as five or more. I'm just wondering how you come to have so many to think about. Are they all characters from the same campaign? Are they from different campaigns? Are some of them old characters no longer played? Are you describing characters from a campaign you GM? Nothing more than idle curiosity really but it would be nice to have it satisfied.

  8. Re: Calling All Evil GMs First thing that springs to mind is: what about the people that were undergoing surgery at that point. Half-way through an operation and the patient's body spontaneously closes up would certainly cause some complications. Could be even worse if it is plastic surgery only half complete. The patient could end up with only half of the operation completed with some lopsided results. Second thing is the crowd of worshippers that forms clamouring for the miracle touch of healing. The heroes would be unable to go anywhere public without attracting a mob of people. Religious leaders could become involved and a mass public debate begun on the phenomenon.
  9. Re: campaign story arc -- what do you think? Getting back to your campaign, it looks well put together reminding me of the plot of arcs you see in well put together TV series. The separate threads that come together by the end for the climax. The foreshadowing of the major threat that will be appearing in the next series. Reading up on what Ganyeka gets up to I assume that he is using his psychic abilities to interact with people in such a way that they do not know they are dealing with a gorilla. In the meeting at the end, session 6, has he travelled to the US or has he arranged for the equipment to be transported to him in The Congo?
  10. Re: campaign story arc -- what do you think? I think it's a neat idea' date=' but I'm really the only GM who writes them, and even I'm pretty slack about it (obviously).[/quote'] This reminds of a character from a Champions campaign the group I am with had before I joined them. One of the characters was a reporter for a tabloid newspaper in his secret ID and frequently wrote unflattering stories about his team mates. At least one of them never caught on who was doing it but started hating the particular newspaper.
  11. Re: WWYCD: The Mirror, Mirror Trap Stockade doesn't have any unusual powers so it would be a basic slugging match to see who goes down first. If he is losing then he would try smashing the mirror, though it might get broken anyway from the knockback he and his alter ego are capable of doing. In the event it is the other half of the multiform, Nebula, she is currently incapable of doing any real damage. Her only attack is a transfer of END to END/STUN. Then it's down to the 13 STR. So she would immediately turn back to Stockade, which becomes more interesting due to the Multiform Amnesia. If Nebula's counterpart turns into Stockade's counterpart then you could have them both staring at each other wondering what's going on.
  12. Re: The "Net" The concept sounds good to me. At first thought it sounds like a Duplication power with appropriate limitations (only to get in Net, original body helpless). The exact mechanics may not be important depending on the rules for the setting. You can then have any environment you wish inside that the avatar (duplicate) then has to deal with. Some sort of mechanism for reprogramming the avatar would be useful, i.e. redistributing the points to meet specific situations. For example, a system may be extremely hostile to intruders; the effect being that only avatars with specific Life Support can survive. One suggestion I would make is that all powers of the avatar are subject to 'Requires a Skill Roll' using a Computer Programming skill. This could represent the characters skill with manipulating his avatar. It also means that ,while he could build anything, high active point powers are more difficult to use.
  13. Re: Ghostbusters HERO You know, the Proton Packs would probably come as part of the vehicle cost. They were carried in the vehicle until they were needed, the Ghostbusters didn't take them everywhere; and they meet the bulky requirement. It makes them a lot cheaper in points, if that's important.
  14. Re: money vs points One thing to add concerning weapons and equipment. A character will automatically know how to use a weapon or piece equipment that he has paid points for. If he hasn't paid points then he needs to have paid the points for an appropriate familiarity otherwise he will be at a penalty. So in the situation that wealth has been used to get hold of gun you will need the appropriate weapon familiarity to be able to use it effectively. The same applies to vehicles. This won't just apply to bought items but also to found items, say you have knocked out a guard and taken his gun, so it is worth remembering.
  15. Re: money vs points I'm sure others can give you a more through answer but the general idea is that using points makes different characters equivalent to each other for the same point cost. The points that are spent on equipment are for items that the character will always have with him. That is not to say they cannot be taken away or broken but they can always be replaced. How easy it is to replace is dependent on how the item was defined. The only way the points can be lost is of the Independent limitation is bought for it. If the character has points spent on wealth then this allows the purchase of one-off items or services. For instance if the character needs to travel very fast somewhere then he can rent a jet to take him there because he has the money to do so. He would not have to spend points on the jet unless he used it multiple times so would be considered part of his character to always have a jet around. There are other advantages to having access to wealth that I am sure you could think. As always it comes down to the GM's decision on what you can do with it.

  17. Re: Name these characters How do the minds of two people interact within this character. Have you used the psychological limitation Multiform Amnesia so neither person knows what's happening when they are not around? (very confusing for the warrior guy). Have you decided they are two separate minds that can observe when the other is in charge? Or have their two minds merged into one with certain personality traits coming out depending on which form is current? Just curious as I created a Multiform character recently that was also two different people merged into one.

  19. Re: Help, the car hit the character! Double Move Through damage, I would just like to officially say 'OUCH!' It certainly does make being smashed into a wall by a vehicle something to avoid. Of course the strength of the wall now becomes a factor. You could end up with the situation where the hero is hoping for lots of KB so they end up the other side of the wall. To make it something even the toughest villains would fear you could throw Penetrating in to represent the fact that the softer internals will be shaken around by impacts. I'm sure there are a few movies where the super-powered bad guy doing well until the plucky hero (or heroine) drives into them and crushes them against the wall; thus giving the good guys time to regroup while the villain drags his battered body out from under the rubble. All this does now mean that the supervillain pairing of Wallbuilder and Ramraider are to be feared.
  20. Re: Super Names Two names from the Champions campaign I'm in: Stockade and Valar.
  21. Re: Help, the car hit the character! There is the difference in knockback damage; full damage from getting knocked against a wall as opposed to half damage from getting knocked back along the road. I guess there is also crushing damage if the person ends up with the car on top of them or pinning them against a wall. At the end of the day the rules are sufficient for superheroes who are supposed to be able to shrug off this sort of thing. For normal people forget the mechanics and just describe what an icky mess they now make.
  22. Re: "Tag Along" movement power There is the +1/4 advantage 'usable as another movement power' that would allow you to purchase one type of movement power and three more for +3/4. This would have the advantage allowing the power to go into a power framework, which is not possible if it has been built as an EC or MP.
  23. Re: Killing as an Advantage; Some Results At first glance this seems reasonable to me. There does look to be more maths involved in it though. I guess you've tried it out so you know if it takes up more time in game doing all the calculations. The problem with the knockback stems from you dividing the amount of BODY done instead of just knocking off a few inches with an extra d6. If you kept the knockback to BODY rolled minus 2d6 then you will get some knockback. If you take the two examples then the Magnum has the possibility of doing a few inches, which matches the dramatic, seen in the movies, action. For the second example knockback would be 15-2d6 = 8" on average, compared to the 10" for the standard RKA version.
  24. Re: Breaking News! You've discovered a new creature, the Evets Gnol. This creature is very rarely seen by adventurers, preferring to hide away out of sight. Some have attributed this to an especially hideous visage that has resulted in the Evets Gnol being shunned by all. When exploring dungeons however the presence of the Evets Gnol can be determined by the complicated number puzzles in use. Many a warrior has been left scratching his head as he tries to work out division by a fractional number. Another sign of the Evets Gnol is the presence of tightropes that allow only balanced characters to pass. If one should ever capture an Evets Gnol then interrogation usually proves impossible. All questions are answered by referencing a page in a book. Consequently interrogations should only be performed in a library.
  25. Re: Help, the car hit the character! By coincidence I was looking this up the other day from the point of view of whether my brick could stop a vehicle. From what I remember the damage is usually normal damage and calculated as for a move through. STR is based on the size of the vehicle. I believe Sean Waters has already provided the relevant numbers. I do remember that the example of a regular automobile did 12d6 damage. To stop the vehicle the knockback has to be resisted. This can be done by using STR to resist the knockback, which is a half phase action that can be aborted to. If the character resists the knockback then the vehicle is stopped. For my own character once the density increase and STR has been figured in he can manage -20" of knockback resistance. Of course, anything too big and he'll probably spend the next phase looking at the tweety birds as he recovers from stunned.
