  1. Re: Throwing something to hit harder Dare I say that instead of Aid you could Transform the object to the same object but made from a stronger material.
  2. Re: So you want to be Batman... I can just imagine a charcter with this. Various powers have OAF and Extra Time to represent him getting the book out and checking out how to do the manoeuvre before performing it.
  3. Re: I Need A Teen Champions Plot! This one works best if one of them has a younger sibling at the school. An incident at the school results in the school closing being closed and the children sent home. The incident could be any number things: a gas leak, an explosion, an invasion of rats, a loss of power. Our heroes discover that the aforementioned sibling has not left so they go back to look from him/her. After sneaking into the school (possibly after getting nowhere by asking) they discover that the workmen that have come to fix the problem are not what they appear to be. Again there are multiple ideas for what could be going on: robbers reclaiming loot hidden in the school; mystics uncovering an ancient site of power; pedophiles installing cameras in the shower rooms. So it is up to the heroes to defeat the bad guys, find the lost child (who may even be elsewhere like at a friend's house) and save the day.
  4. Re: New Guy likes SPD Chart I have to agree that the speed chart is a wonderful invention that we have made use of in other games. The one thing I have never worked is why the speed 1 phase is in segment 7 though. The way the rest of them are worked out I would have thought it would be in segment 12.
  5. Re: A question to the physics-minded... Have you thought about using gas attacks on them. Some nasty NND attack that does body with a 1 hex AoE. Use an appropriate toxin to bypass their defenses, i.e. something breathed (defense LS:Self contained breathing or hold breath) or skin contact (defense inside a sealed suit). You end up with something like: 19 1d6 RKA, NND (+1), Does BODY (+1), AoE 1 hex (+1/2), OAF (-1), 6 charges (-3/4) Though I guess the authorities may not want to use chemical weapons as this is one of the unacceptable ways of killing people.

    1 Speed

Re: 1 Speed You could always have a SPD 1 guy with masses of duplicates. Don't be around when his action comes up as a line of guys point their fingers and blast. Call him Broadside or something.
  7. Re: Calling All Evil GMs You want more?!? OK, if you go with the mega-amounts of publicity and worship options then the best way for the characters to get rid of all that is to disappear for a while. You can then have scenarios where the characters have to perform their heroic duties while not revealing themselves and not displaying the flashy powers that caused the problem in the first place. This then leaves the option for some unscrupulous people to come in and con the worshippers by pretending to be the heroes. So now the heroes have to expose these fakes to protect their good name.
  8. Re: Clown, Inc. Working out their disadvantages shouldn't be too hard, every point spent on Hunteds.
  9. Re: Aid and Engergy Absorption While the player is busy using his aid in this way isn't he also being shot? I assume that the idea is to eventually boost up Absorption so that whatever the other half of the points is going into gets very good. On the way though he is going to get shot a few times and probably end up unconscious, and the time taken to get to that point has been filled up with multiple uses of Aid. Of course, his characer may be designed to survive all that in which case I would take a look at his defenses to see if they are too large. On the whole I would have thought the major effect of this would be to slow down combat. The only way I can see this working well is if he gets a team mate to shoot him several times with a small attack before engaging in combat. This then relies on knowing combat will be taking place soon and not getting disturbed or spotted while doing this. So to answer your question I would probably not allow this as it will slow the game down and encourage questionable characters actions. The solution is to remove the aid and put all the absorbed points into the other power.
  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... It is the start of a new Champions campaign. One of the players is determined that the superhero name he comes up with cannot be mocked in any way. As his character has the delusion that he is a Jedi a certain amount of mocking is inevitable and he is determined that it should not be added to. He has spent about 25 minutes on the phone discussing names that are mock-proof. The other players have been told his quest for a name that cannot be mocked so the challenge is on. He announces his hero name will be Vornar. Two seconds later 'Vornar the Porn Star' had been created and the player was looking for a new name.
  11. Here's a situation that should involve heroes ranging from street level to epic. It is an entirely original creation and has nothing to do with a movie I watched the other day; after all my version has superheroes running around. You're in Chicago for whatever reason. Over the past couple of weeks you've been hearing reports of unusually severe weather that has surprised the experts. They have had trouble predicting some of it and warnings have failed to go out. Some say that global warning has caused a change in weather patterns while others are blaming a villainous source. And now a category 5 hurricane has formed in Canada and is heading south down Lake Michigan towards Chicago. In the meantime an F5 tornado is travelling north, also towards Chicago. They are both expected to hit at the same time. To make matters worse the city has lost power. The grid has shut down and the best guess is as a result of a hacker breaking into the computer systems that control the power grid. The authorities suspect a terrorist incident. The loss of power has meant that the majority of the inhabitants have not received warnings about the impending storms. Only battery powered TV's and radios work; the mobile phone system is not operational. Emergency services are stretched as they deal with accidents, looting, fires, people trapped in lifts and so forth plus the first effects of the approaching storms. To make matters worse any DNPC the character may have is somewhere in the city and you have lost contact with only a sketchy idea where they might be. There is only a few hours left until the storms hit. Anyone that has not found shelter by then will likely die. So what does you character do?
  12. Re: "And I'll form... the head!" Surely the fact that there are rules for dividing and recombining damage implies the duplicate comes from the character. This appears to be the distinctive point if Duplication is chosen to represent the power. Summon, although it talks about summoning from other places and generally works on that assumption (rules for dispelling the summoned creatures) does not have to do this. The noteworthy effect of Summon is that the creatures are free-willed and have to be convinced to do something though you can buy the Amicable advantage to improve their attitude. Followers are much more loyal but improve on their own. They earn experience points and cannot be changed once created. When choosing a way to represent extra characters running around then I think it is worth bearing these points in mind.
  13. Re: The limits of regeneration I guess it depends if the player tries to abuse it or not. I would be happy to have it work for situations where the character has found themselves trapped in some way. I would not expect a character to start deliberately suffocating or drowning themselves in order to pull off some kind of stunt except in the rarest of circumstances.
  14. Re: The limits of regeneration On the other hand Regeneration is a poor substitute for Life Support. As seen from the example the characters still loses all their END and STUN. So while the character with the appropriate Life Support is trying to find a way out of the situation the character with Regeneration is unconscious and stuck there until rescued. What you seem to be getting in fact is a character going into suspended animation until conditions are such that he can recover. This seems to be a nice fit for a creature that gets trapped for years, decades or longer until discovered by unsuspecting scientists. The creature will eventually wake up to rampage at GM's option time. As to whether this difference between Life Support and Regeneration is enough to let by is going to be up to individual GMs. I don't foresee the situation coming up very often though and as the choice is over whether a character lives or dies I would probably go with the Regeneration keeping the character alive.
  15. Re: "And I'll form... the head!" One thing to be aware of when defining the pets as duplicates or followers is the potential loss of points of the pet dies. When a duplicate dies that duplicate is lost and the points cannot be reasigned, though points can be put in to increase the multiplier for number of duplicates so it does not cost too much to replace. Followers are also lost but may be replaced after a long time. This fits if the nature of the pets is such that they take a long time to replace. So if destroyed pets can be easily replaced off the shelf then neither Duplicates or Followers fits in this regard; unless the GM hand waves the problem away of course.
  16. Re: Champions Jargon I've been trying to think of any jargon that my group uses and drawn a blank until a suddenly remembered a phrase we sometimes make use of. 'The Champions go shopping' It comes from several years ago when we were looking at all the hunteds and DNPC's that the Champions team had. I guess this was 4th edition, it's been a while. It refers to a scenario when only the characters disadvantages come into play, i.e. the Champions go out shopping and this is what turns up. It got mentioned at the time because the amount of extras that did arrive, supposedly as background to the main storyline, was a bit over the top.

  18. Re: Working Stiffs -- Champions Style! Professional Gambler Someone that makes a living from winning card playing tournaments. These days Texas Holdem would be the most likely card game they played. 2 PS: Tournament Gambling 11- 2 Gambling (card games) xx- 2 KS: Professional Gamblers 11- 1 Wealth
  19. Re: For all those with multiple characters Ah, players that keep characters alive in the WWYCD threads that have never appeared in a campaign. Perhaps we should help them to let the character pass away peacefully. Some counselling or group therapy should do it. I can just imagine the scene. McCoy: Hello everyone, my name is McCoy. Everyone: Hello McCoy. McCoy: It has been ten days since I last posted in a WWYCD thread. Everyone: [clapping]
  20. Re: WWYCD: The Vampire Who Doesn't Want to be a Vampire Anymore Stockade doesn't know anything about the occult, nor does anyone else in the team. There are two sci-fi geeks in the team though and they may be able to work something out from a TV program. After consulting with them Stockade will go and rescue another team mate Resonance (a womanising showoff) from whatever trouble he's landed himself in with this vampire.
  21. Re: Killing as an Advantage; Some Results Hey Lucius I can fully understand where you are coming from when you compare a +0 advantage for the killing to a +1/2 advantage for the defenses. One point I would just like to throw your way. Resistant defenses are only required for the BODY part of the damage, which is going to be a lower number than the STUN damage. So we could say that only half of the total needs to be resistant as a rough estimate. Taking that into consideration we can then say the advantage on the defenses is only equivalent to +1/4. When we look at it this way then the difference doesn't seem as great.
  22. Re: WWYCD: The Friendly Neighbourhood CERT Stockade would decline from joining in in his secret ID by claiming he was too busy. In reality he wouldn't want to encounter a situation where people could notice he weighs 800Kg. It would be embarrassing if he were told to be the subject while everyone else practices their 'fireman's lift'. Besides he could help out more in his hero ID where he can fully utilise his strength. He would be impressed at the results the civilians are achieving with their efforts though their presence does give him more to worry about as he would be worried they may get hurt.
  23. Re: Low Level Power Ideas Needed for Superhero team Liaison/Career Bureaucrat I would have thought extra Presence, not just for defence. From the sounds of it, everyone takes notice when she is around and she can Presence attack people into submission.
