  1. Re: Cap is dead!!!! Thank you, Steamteck. The world needs real heroes now more than ever. Unfortunately, what we have now is crap. I am totally stunned that the course of Civil War went as it did, that people could allow characters to be so badly mishandled. For god's sake, Reed Richards, all by himself, could rewrite reality in his bedroom to make sure this crap never happened. I pray to this day that I will wake up and that the past two years of comics didn't happen.
  2. Re: Cap is dead!!!! The problem here, again, is not Brubaker. I would bet MONEY that Brubaker didn't come up with this. This is like Strazynski and the Norman Osborn/Gwen sex stuff, where they TOLD him to write it. Strazynski was like WTF? You want to do WHAT to Spider Man? He almost quit. I'll bet that Brubaker went home and said "I can either do this cheesy, or I can pray that the fans trust me enough to do this the right way." Keep in mind, if this is the case, we shouldn't be kicking his ass. I think we should diss Quesada and Millar for being morons, and give Brubaker the support he needs to bring HIS hero back. You know Cap is his favorite, right?
  3. Re: Philosophical question The other option is more complicated and assumes the existence of temporal police, monitors, whatever you call them. See Simon Hawke's Timewars for a really good idea of how this works. Temporal Monitors detect that Bob has killed Hitler in 1931. This drives a spike into the timeline, creating not one, but TWO futures. These two futures are coextant and simultaneous. However.... Time is like a river, and periodically, along the two timelines, they try to rejoin. Sometimes, this creates pools of time called confluence points, where you can switch timelines automatically and suddenly find everything different. Unfortunately, sometimes, you can also get large explosions. If you're a smart GM, superpowers COULD come from this. Regrettably, and here comes the kicker... If you are at the signature event where such a thing is happening, you may be set upon by TWO groups of temporal monitors, one that is trying to PRESERVE your timeline, and one that is trying to DESTROY it. And they look...exactly the same...heh...heh...heh... Chew on that, True Believer...
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Bolo, if I didn't try to rep you for that, I'd be remiss.
  5. Re: Signature Request *CW #7 SPOILERS* Well, that's 49 issues, so I hope there's a slam-bang issue #50.
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Plastron, in secret ID, goes to a rich kid to enact his plan to get revenge on rival Sam Adams High, which requires bribing a student there. NPC: So can I do for you? Plastron (Aka Mervin Spitzner): I'm poor. NPC: Well, Mervin, you're a smart guy. Invent something scientific, sell it to Lawrence Industries, and live off patent rights for the rest of your life. It's what I'd do if I were you. Plastron: No. I mean this week.
  7. Re: Cap is dead!!!! Another disaster waiting to happen.
  8. Re: Cap is dead!!!! Dude, it will NOT be the Patriot. Patriot has a fundamental issue. He's the former leader of THE SECRET EMPIRE! There is no way on 616 Earth Brubaker would EVER allow that to happen.
  9. Re: Signature Request *CW #7 SPOILERS* The problem isn't Captain America #25. The problem is everything surrounding it.
  10. Re: Civil War in the Champions Universe! I understand that using the word was a harsh measure. But I was concerned that people wouldn't understand the depths of why my patriotism matters to me if I didn't use it. Comic Book bulletin boards are not a place for long and complex dissertations on moral behavior. Though perhaps, in one sense, you are right, and they should be. Wait for Mind Over Matter. Hopefully, I'll do a better job than Marvel did.
  11. Re: Civil War in the Champions Universe! Okay, folks, here we go. I posted this on the Marvel Boards, and am thinking of reposting it here. I was very harsh, but I felt the need to say this to them. http://www.marvelcomics.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=35207&start=10&sid=1a58ebee25fabf8969d390c057ee9569 I don't think I've ever been so angry in all my days. Look for Legacies. Wrong things still happen in my champions game. But NOTHING...NOTHING like this.
  12. Re: Captain Carrot returns! Guys, it's okay, really. Captain Carrot IS supposed to be satire and self-parody of the comic book industry. While I might mind stuff like this elsewhere, the point here is that stuff like this in Captain Carrot, distressingly enough, is where it belongs.
  13. Re: Islam replaces Christianity Well, the first thing you'd have to deal with would be the fact that most women would go around masked all the time anyway, so there'd be absolutely zero ability to stop women from being superheroines, however, the cultural stigma against it would be HUGE. Though a bunch of bizarre multicolored burqas might be amusing to see.
  14. Re: Top 20 Comic Weapons The Hawks actually use a variety of medieval weapons. That's a modern cartoonism.
  15. Re: Power Build: Re-Pete Just give him 64 duplicates, create an extradimensional space that only he can move in or out of, give him extradimensional movement to and from it that is FULLY INVISIBLE, and add the limitation Only one Exists at a time. Creepily enough, with the unconscious one getting 62 aided recoveries per action phase, he'll be up in no time. Just add regeneration to heal body.
  16. Re: Top 20 Comic Weapons Verily, though, I do say they got number one right.
  17. Re: Top 20 Comic Weapons Batman's Utility Belt is not on the list, and it should be, or at the very least, the Batarang. Virtually everything that has come after it is an imitation of it, including dozens of Anime weapons not mentioned here. The Mento Helmet is not on the list, and it should be. The Original Blue Beetle's Scarab. "Khaji Dal." And Screw you, DC comics, for ruining this character not once, but TWICE. Wonder Woman's Magic Lasso. My god, how could you forget that? The Trapster's original Glue Gun. No matter how hard I try, I just can't call him Paste Pot Pete. Spencer Smythe's Spider Slayers. The Mandarin's Ten Rings Ultimo! Yeah, that's right. Ultimo! He belongs on the list. He's a weapon! Modok's chair. Yeah, it just supports the most powerful mentalist on earth and amplifies his powers. I'll take this over Spider Jerusalem's gun any day of the week.
  18. Re: Endurance Reserves Well, in some cases, yes. In some, no. Typically, a character that has an end reserve either has an armored suit or some other device that stores their power in it. Ergo, unless you cheese out, your end reserve can be destroyed by exceeding the resistant defense of the main object. And then your powers don't work. So check out the rules on Foci destruction, because there is absolutely no reason why someone should have an END reserve without a focus, device, or special set of circumstances. People who have powers that don't come from devices should, for the most part, use normal END.
  19. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... A long time ago, when Legacies was only four years old, the PC's of a group called The Sentinels were making a plan to assault the stronghold of an evil organization. The only thing that is important to understand is that Quickshot, the team archer, has NO flight power. Aikido, the team leader: All right. Now, Wind Walker will fly in from this angle, and I'll take the other one. Flying Tiger, you stay back and use your mental powers. Now, when we reach this point, Quickshot drops from the sky... Quickshot: HOLD ON A MINUTE! I CAN'T FLY! Aikido: You can't? Quickshot: NO! I HAVE NOT, NOR HAVE I EVER, BEEN ABLE TO FLY! WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS TOGETHER FOR TWO YEARS!!!! Aikido: No...you can't be serious! I ALWAYS thought you could fly... Quickshot: Look at me! I am an Archer! I have Mr. Bow. I have arrows! I CANNOT FLY!
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Our heroes in my friend's Eberron Game encounter some Barghests, and drive them off. Later, we encounter a goblin trading caravan that was attacked by the creatures. Our cleric, Durnoth, says "I stop to bury the bodies and perform last rites. I would rather forced march to the nearby city than allow these people an improper burial." My Elven warrior responds "I would rather forced march to the nearby city than stay out here where the creatures can eat us."
  21. Re: Civil War in the Champions Universe! Well, Fenris, no, because actually, Marketing is about presentation and how a product LOOKS, not how a product resolves. It's about how the product is presented to the public. Which is why I think Civil War is probably the dumbest plot ever. "Based on our cosmic marketing research, if Earth is going to make it's survival plan in the year 2009, we need to force every hero in the USA to register with the Government."
  22. Re: CHAMPIONS REVISED -- If We Do It, What Would You Like To See? Uh. Bob? They're comic book characters. He intends to use them for Heroic Publishing, they're comic book characters. Rights have to be renewed every ten years. In print. That's why DC does stupid things like run plots where "We need to use B'wana Beast" Otherwise, like Lightning Girl and the Target and all those other wonderful superheroes of the 1940's and 1950's, I believe they enter the public domain because they're superheroes. We might want to have a lawyer check into that.
  23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... During the Mind over Matter playtest, Shadow Lord is trying to convince a prison guard and a prison nurse that he is not removing a villain from their custody to check if the negative effect on him remains in another dimension. Using his vast magical powers as one of the three most powerful mages on Earth, he creates a cheesy afterimage of the villain and spirits him away to his dimension. Meanwhile, while he's away, the Nurse and the Prison Guard roll a 4 and a 5 on their perception rolls respectively. Shadow Lord reappears, to discover the nurse passing her hand through the image and the prison guard saying "What the hell is going on here?" Shadow Lord: I used the Mystic Bands of K'Karrenal on him! It temporarily places him out of phase with this reality in order to shield him from magical effects. Nurse: Okay... This mystic ability doesn't exist. He completely BSed them because they didn't know anything about magic. It was hilarious!
  24. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Susano: I filed that line in the same folder as Highlander 2 and those rumors of Alien 3 and Alien 4. Uh, I'd just like to remind you that they DID make an Alien 3 and Alien 4. They just gave them new names after the word alien instead of using numbers.
  25. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Well, I love the spirit of California quote. Today, during the Mind over Matter playtest, Greyshadow, the Grim Vigilante, had a moment of romantic weakness during a mind link. Outback (Over the mind link): I have to go for a couple of hours, there's something I need to do upstate. Greyshadow: That's...fine...I'll...persevere.
