Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I read not too long ago the first book of the Thomas Covenant Series Lord Fouls Bane by Stephan Donaldson, considered a classic by many, on a par with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Frankly I was more then disappointed, Thomas Covenant is a whiner complaining throughout the entire book! I almost threw the book across the room when around 1/3 of the way in Thomas Covenant RAPES an unsuspecting 16 year girl who had discovered him when he came through to THE LAND for the first time. it was sheer torture just trying to work my way over Donaldson's oblique style and prose. Nothing worked in this book, or seldom. I have the other two up on the shelf but there is no way I'm going back in, no way. I can't connect with the characters which seem 2 dimensional, and the "hero" of the story is a miserable louse who represents, to me at least, the down side of the human scale. Please tell me there is redemption, heroics, something that happens in these books. I just don't get it.

Re: Heroclix - Avengers vs JLA sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only GEEK DAD trying to indoctrinate his kid with comics and games, all mine wants to do is play his DS (sigh) but we do have a tournament going right now with different teams but I don't have many avengers or JLA, although the X-MEN trounced the TEEN TITANS (I was the titans) "First match Hercules demolished Wonder Woman. Batman and Hawkgirl defeated Cap and the panther but fell to Hercules. Iron Man cleaned Jonn Jonnzz clock . Thor and Superman fought for awhile. Superman landed one decent blow and made 3 straight imperviousness rolls in a row but them took a massive extra damage hit and Iron man and Thor put him down. Flash put down Wanda and then proceeded to not get hit until we just gave up on it." I thought Flash would be more effective and Hercules defeats Batman and Hawkgirl... it's true if a Heroclix brick lands one it's can be devastating. WW is at 275 pts ?1? is that the Kingdom Come WW? I saw the new Thor is around the same point level. Thanks for the story I enjoyed it!

building kiss I’m all nostalgic and misty eyed, I mean my mom sent my kid the new KISS album Sonic Boom, which really rocks in a total insouciant late 70’s early 80’s way when metal “wuz about scoring” and using the two brain cells left in your head after a night out to pump your fist in the air...but I digress. No I thought it would be fun building KISS. They are archetypical iconic figures and there have been comics (pretty bad) video games (that I’ve never played) and at least one super hero movie KISS Meets the Phantom (of the park) yaaagh. BUT WAIT they would make a good superhero team, no really : The Starchild : a roaming soul, born from beyond the galaxy, a space pirate traveling in strange dimensions. He has empathy, telepathy, a star blast, navigation- pirate skills... Having a strong sense of civic duty he immediately joined the army in the hopes of serving his country on the front lines instead of in a lab. Of course Peter was very frail and had bad eye sight thus he flunked the health exam. Shamed but determined to help his country Peter set about working on a man sized armor design which would enable him to participate in the war effort. During this time he was helped by an arrogant if not equally competent colleague, Victor von Ozborsch his old roommate who was something of a science wiz himself. While the work progressed Peter was approached by his Uncle Ben an officer in the army and one of the men working on a top secret super soldier formula which could transform Peter into a super man among men. Peter who had always considered himself thin and weakly jumped at the chance. Peter excitedly told Victor of the upcoming experiment. He was so enthralled with the idea of becoming strong that he said off handedly “do you imagine with my knew physical prowess and this armor, I’ll be a real American fighting machine!” Victor took the remark coldly but didn’t comment on his younger friends excerburence after all he mused to himself, the common rabble are constantly living with delusional dreams of power, while he Victor von Ozborsch had the keys to real power and a noble’s blood right to take it if need be. Thus together they perfected a workable if somewhat awkward proto-type of the armor. Victor had insisted that the armor be painted green the color of his people’s ancient monarchy back in Latveria. Victor who’s mother was a sorcerer secretly worked to infuse the clunky armor with magical forces thus making it nigh invincible. Bounding a powerful greater deamon who called himself simply the Goblin, Victor felt he had succeeded and gone where no man dared venture. Unfortunately these efforts and the constant contact with arcane forces took it’s toll on Victor’s megalomania leaving him more and more paranoid. In his eyes he was the one taking all the risk, while Peter, whom he began referring to as his “assistant” was turning out to be a bungling fool and nuisance. He decided that he would put an end to their collaboration, with deadly force if need be. It was about this time that Peter began “receiving” visions while asleep, haunting visions of a man named incredulously Dr Strange, a man claiming to be Peter’s real father, and warning Peter of Victor’s plots and schemes. Peter quite shaken by these revelations confronted his uncle Ben Stark about this. Ben sadly told Peter that he and his aunt May found Peter wandering in the forest while they were out camping one summer. The boy was so adorable that after investigations gave no explanations to the boy’s origins they had decided to adopt him. Peter, who had always had vague answers given to him about his real parents, felt angry and betrayed. It was at this time that Victor decided to show up on the base to demonstrate his fabulous magical armor. Peter, hearing Victor take all the credit lost his temper and yelled at Victor to leave the armor and have it out like a man, Victor only laughed and backhanded Peter, who flew across the yard and through a wooden wall, into a another experimental lab where they kept radioactive insects. He was severely injured. Whether Victor really meant to hurt Peter or not is still not known, but on that fateful day because of his arrogance, and pride, Von Ozborsch took a step in a direction in which he felt he could never turn back. He quickly turned on the nearest officer who happened to be Peter’s uncle Ben and demanded the super soldier formula, he was the one that had worked on the magnificent armor, he was the one that had infused it with the dark forces to make it invulnerable, he was a noble, he merited it just on his birth rights alone. The soldiers just stared back at Von Ozborsch in disbelief. “This is America you damned fool and everyone will be entighteled to this formula once it’s tested.”, yelled Officer Stark. This injury was the final straw as Ozborsch charged Officer Stark plowing right through him and on into the military’s main laboratories. Not knowing what exactly to look for he ransacked the place accidentally knocking over highly volatile chemicals creating a fire which caused a staggering explosion of glass and cement. The soldiers and MPs watched in stunned silence as the ball of flame rose into the sky, nothing could have survived that, but then out of the hellish smoke and blazing heat walked Von Ozborsch in his steaming armor as he howled a blood curdling laugh. The soldiers opened fire and Doom continued laughing as he trounced a hand full of soldiers, replying in kind to the rockets and bullets with his own heat rays. the shout’s and gun fire from several of the base’s guards continued as he flew off into the sunset then on to a remote European retreat, where he would continue studying the arcane magic he already unleashed, until finally these forces would warp and disfigure Von Ozborch’s physic as well as his psyche. When he confronted Peter years after he would be known hence forth as The Green Doom. While Peter lay injured it was decided to inject him with the only super soldier formula left. Ozborsch had killed all the personnel and destroyed all the papers concerning the project including the mixture of alloys for Peter’s prototype super shield. After a few days Peter’s body healed beyond recognition. When he had come to he was a new man, full of muscles and with quick agility and prowess. But there were weird side effects as well. Soon Peter developed still more uncanny abilities : clinging to walls, incredible reflexes, and agility, even more unbelievably ; he could sense danger before it happened. After further analysis it was surmised that Peter must have been bitten by one or even more of the radioactive spiders in the lab where he landed after Doom’s savage assault. Soon he was more or less recovered and told of his uncles death and how he bravely tried to stop Doom. Peter felt guilt ridden, if only he hadn’t lost his temper, perhaps he could have simply leveled with Ozborsch, he understood his old roommate’s’ jealousy and bitterness, in one fell swoop he felt responsible now for all the loss of life, but also the loss of his friend whom he felt he had carelessly pushed over the edge. Most of all he felt directly responsible for his Uncle’s sacrifice, a man he had considered as a father, while in the last instances of their time together he had turned his back on him. This guilt would haunt Peter for the rest of his life. But Peter’s remorse was put aside for a time for there was a war to win and Peter would represent everything good and winning that America would have to offer. He under went the most intensive training learning the deadliest combat techniques and war tactics. He was given a shield and armored mail. He made a promise to himself that as soon as they allowed him some time off he would design an even better “lighter” style of armor that would compensate his agility and dexterity not hamper it, while providing him with enough protection to withstand a tank’s shell. Thus after a year on the front lines, he managed to design his mach II armor, it was a lighter material, yet highly invulnerable, also he equipped the chest with a large Omni beam projector. He developed flight and infra red vision and radar. He had installed handy web shooters as a reminder of his strange mutated powers. He went on several successful missions, on the front lines, as well as espionage type missions where he was sometimes dubbed The Iron American or Captain Spiderman. On one of these missions he would meet the man who would become his arch nemesis for the rest of the century: Loki’s red metal skull. As the Reich’s war efforts proved more and more disastrous the Nazis made plans to summon and control the old Norse gods of legends. They had even secretly, with the help of a man calling himself Loki to uncover what German archeologist claimed to be Thor’s hammer itself. But what the Nazis didn’t know was that although the man calling himself Loki certainly had powers he was by no means the Norse god he claimed to be, he was a mutant, who could control metal, but he was also a scientist who wanted to make a potion for himself based on the American’s super soldier formula that would give him immortality. With the Green Doom’s help he actually managed to summon Loki whom he bound inside a metal skull. Loki, the god of mischief and cunning, was not at all happy to find that he himself had been tricked, and what was worse, by a mere mortal. Although his powers were hampered while trapped in the skull, they where by no means lost. He used his subterfuge to tip off the allied recon services, bringing The Iron American right to the place where he would find Thor’s hammer. A huge battle was fought between The Iron American, Doom, and Magnus (the metal mutant), Much magic was released and grave forces were threatening to arrive to destroy the earth itself when Dr. Strange’s ghost (the good doctor trapped on another plane) helped Peter to delve into his own arcane psyche. The result was a huge explosion which killed Magnus, or so everyone thought, because he was somehow sucked into the metal skull releasing Loki in the transmutation. Half of Loki’s own power however remained trapped in the now dormant skull (which was buried under tons of rock and metal). Doom then faced a vengeful Loki and would probably have died if the Iron American, who was himself severely wounded, had not found and picked up Thor’s hammer, becoming the God of Thunder. Loki bowed out gracefully vowing revenge (he would be banned from the earthen plane and only would be able to act through the Red Metal Skull, sometimes controlling it, sometimes not). Doom beaten twice and then saved by his cursed enemy, who was now transformed into a god, vowed revenge and escaped while The Iron American with the help of Dr. Strange made sure Loki was banished from the earthen plane. The battle was won, and the war was virtually over. Peter felt lost and confused, now he could summon the power of a god but Thor’s persona fought with his own strong will for control of his earthen body. Under Strange’s guidance he went into retreat disappearing from all societies until he came to terms with his new condition. For ten years he wandered the remote corners of the earth, always expanding his knowledge of the arcane powers which were his birthright, while coming to terms with his symbiotic relation with the god of thunder. In the late fifties the time came for his mystic trail. Calling on the God Thor to inhabit his body on the earthly plane, he followed Dr. Strange in astral form on a quest in a dimension far removed from our own, a dimension where great evil dwelled and needed to be vanquished. Before going Dr. Strange charged Thor to defend the earthly plane, from any overspill of the evil they were about to face. Thus Thor found himself once again in Midgard, but he also found that he trusted his “host” and his “host’s” weird father, whom he sensed to be two of the most honorable of Midgardians he had ever met. Thor, under Strange’s instructions, headed for New York, where he once again faced The Green Doom, who was in full form. He was hard pressed and all might have been lost if not for the intervention of four beautiful French girls with incredible powers who called themselves Les Filles Fantastiques. (the fantastic girls) After Doom had been defeated, Thor sensing the spirit of the Valkerye in these four young girls offered to teach them the ways of battle, for although they had raw force they were still very inexperienced. At first their Gaullic pride was offended but then they quickly agreed (beside two of the girls were already swooning all over Goldilocks!). Thus formed the Fantastic Avengers! For the next 15 years the team grew into a solid formation, defending the earth time and again from would be coquerers, (Loki’s Red Metal Skull , Green Doom, etc…) and various alien invasions (particularly the savage Skree). But nothing could prepare them for the arrival of an immensely powerful being, a herald called the Silver Tamer, who quickly defeated the Fantastic Avengers thus opening the way for the Thanos Galaxy, an evil sentient being incorporating a vast galaxy consuming everything in it’s path as it moved across the universe. As stars and planet began colliding on the out skirts of the milky way and the earth was thrown in what looked like it’s final hour Peter Stark Strange, wielding awesome cosmic powers once again possessed his defunct body bringing it and the god of thunder back to life! He then helped heal les Femmes Fantastique (well, they were no longer just girls) and after a terrible struggle managed to vanquish the Silver Tamer. The group was still battle weary and wounded when the Green Doom made a sneak attack. As he saw his comrades drop one by one from Doom’s assault a newer even deadlier threat appeared in the sky over Manhattan, Galactic Thanos had taken form, that of a giant man, and he was going to punish whatever little insect had defeated his herald. This was too much for Peter, the stress combined with the raw magic and cosmic powers in the air must have triggered something deep within the erstwhile hero, for what happened next not even Dr. Strange, who fought the death galaxy on another dimension, could imagine. Peter suddenly transformed into a huge green hulking beast, a being of pure ferocious strength and fury. Unbreakable claws came from the backs of his hands. This being of dark power had but one objective : “Green Wolverine…destroy big bad man!”. With that he held tightly to Thor’s hammer and while lightning bolts and thunder rolled across Manhattan toppling buildings in the process (most of the island had thankfully been evacuated by this time!) jumped headlong into Galactic Thanos who fell from the sky with the force of a mountain, crashing onto central park. But the Thanos Galaxy was power incarnate and quickly recovered blasting Green Wolverine into orbit. For Once Green Doom, who somehow felt related to the strange beast did a selfless act and made his own assault on the giant. Meanwhile while La Rocheuse tried to rally the other girls, Madame Fantastique had managed to rig a contraption which could reverse cosmic energies, creating a black hole which would probably destroy their awesome opponent. The problem was creating the hole on earth would destroy not only Galactic Thanos but also the entire planet!!! Doom with the help of two of the Fantastiques were fighting a losing battle, when out of the sky a raging scream could be heard. The Green Wolverine was flying back, thunder and lightning blazing, hurling his hammer he toppled Galactic Thanos, then while his foe was felled the green monster in a frenzy of claws and muscles began ripping the cosmic giant to pieces. Soon all was silent. Galactic Thanos was destroyed. La Rocheuse ran towards Green Wolverine wanting to give him a big victory kiss, but Green Doom held her back. “beware Mademoiselle, for that is not the warrior you knew”, and he was right. Green Wolverine turned towards his friends with a snarl and began menacingly approaching them. Green Doom readied himself to attack but la Femme Invisible suddenly appeared before the creature, talking to him, soothing him. Soon the transformation began again, leaving a weakened Thor/Stark who collapsed on the ground. Madame Fantastique ran to them carrying the strange device. “The galaxy man is reforming and regenerating vast energy, we have little time, we must use the trans-teleporter to go into the heart of the rogue galaxy and detonate this black hole device, otherwise all is lost”. “You can’t do that Rosalyne, it’s sheer suicide” yelled La Rocheuese. “Everyone look” cried La Flame swooping across the battle field. Sure enough Galactic Thanos’ body was regenerating. “Give the device to me” said Green Doom calmly. “Don’t do it Rosy we can’t trust him” But something in Green Doom’s eyes made Madame Fantastique hesitate. The man was a true villain through and through, their worst enemy, yet his eyes told of a nobility and indomitable will which very few men possessed. She handed Doom the device, “come we don’t have much time”, but Doom raised his hand, “I will be quicker with a spell,” “You tin head” yelled La Rochuese “you’re signing your own death warrant!”. “The Green Doom does not intend to die” and with that he disappeared. Minutes later the being known as Galactic Thanos simple faded away. Madame Fanatstique checked her monitors and sure enough the device had been triggered. A huge black hole now existed in the place of the deadly galaxy. Thanos’ herald was stripped of his terrible powers, revealing a perplexed humanoid, “oh thank the gods the nightmare is over” The Fantastic Avengers began rebuilding New York. Thus ends the current adventures of Peter Stark Strange, alias, Thor, alias Captain Spiderman, Alias, The Iron American, or if you like : Captain Strange Iron Spider Thor, whom we will simple call from now on : Marvel Man! Having a strong sense of civic duty he immediately joined the army in the hopes of serving his country on the front lines instead of in a lab. Of course Peter was very frail and had bad eye sight thus he flunked the health exam. Shamed but determined to help his country Peter set about working on a man sized armor design which would enable him to participate in the war effort. During this time he was helped by an arrogant if not equally competent colleague, Victor von Ozborsch his old roommate who was something of a science wiz himself. While the work progressed Peter was approached by his Uncle Ben an officer in the army and one of the men working on a top secret super soldier formula which could transform Peter into a super man among men. Peter who had always considered himself thin and weakly jumped at the chance. Peter excitedly told Victor of the upcoming experiment. He was so enthralled with the idea of becoming strong that he said off handedly “do you imagine with my knew physical prowess and this armor, I’ll be a real American fighting machine!” Victor took the remark coldly but didn’t comment on his younger friends excerburence after all he mused to himself, the common rabble are constantly living with delusional dreams of power, while he Victor von Ozborsch had the keys to real power and a noble’s blood right to take it if need be. Thus together they perfected a workable if somewhat awkward proto-type of the armor. Victor had insisted that the armor be painted green the color of his people’s ancient monarchy back in Latveria. Victor who’s mother was a sorcerer secretly worked to infuse the clunky armor with magical forces thus making it nigh invincible. Bounding a powerful greater deamon who called himself simply the Goblin, Victor felt he had succeeded and gone where no man dared venture. Unfortunately these efforts and the constant contact with arcane forces took it’s toll on Victor’s megalomania leaving him more and more paranoid. In his eyes he was the one taking all the risk, while Peter, whom he began referring to as his “assistant” was turning out to be a bungling fool and nuisance. He decided that he would put an end to their collaboration, with deadly force if need be. It was about this time that Peter began “receiving” visions while asleep, haunting visions of a man named incredulously Dr Strange, a man claiming to be Peter’s real father, and warning Peter of Victor’s plots and schemes. Peter quite shaken by these revelations confronted his uncle Ben Stark about this. Ben sadly told Peter that he and his aunt May found Peter wandering in the forest while they were out camping one summer. The boy was so adorable that after investigations gave no explanations to the boy’s origins they had decided to adopt him. Peter, who had always had vague answers given to him about his real parents, felt angry and betrayed. It was at this time that Victor decided to show up on the base to demonstrate his fabulous magical armor. Peter, hearing Victor take all the credit lost his temper and yelled at Victor to leave the armor and have it out like a man, Victor only laughed and backhanded Peter, who flew across the yard and through a wooden wall, into a another experimental lab where they kept radioactive insects. He was severely injured. Whether Victor really meant to hurt Peter or not is still not known, but on that fateful day because of his arrogance, and pride, Von Ozborsch took a step in a direction in which he felt he could never turn back. He quickly turned on the nearest officer who happened to be Peter’s uncle Ben and demanded the super soldier formula, he was the one that had worked on the magnificent armor, he was the one that had infused it with the dark forces to make it invulnerable, he was a noble, he merited it just on his birth rights alone. The soldiers just stared back at Von Ozborsch in disbelief. “This is America you damned fool and everyone will be entighteled to this formula once it’s tested.”, yelled Officer Stark. This injury was the final straw as Ozborsch charged Officer Stark plowing right through him and on into the military’s main laboratories. Not knowing what exactly to look for he ransacked the place accidentally knocking over highly volatile chemicals creating a fire which caused a staggering explosion of glass and cement. The soldiers and MPs watched in stunned silence as the ball of flame rose into the sky, nothing could have survived that, but then out of the hellish smoke and blazing heat walked Von Ozborsch in his steaming armor as he howled a blood curdling laugh. The soldiers opened fire and Doom continued laughing as he trounced a hand full of soldiers, replying in kind to the rockets and bullets with his own heat rays. the shout’s and gun fire from several of the base’s guards continued as he flew off into the sunset then on to a remote European retreat, where he would continue studying the arcane magic he already unleashed, until finally these forces would warp and disfigure Von Ozborch’s physic as well as his psyche. When he confronted Peter years after he would be known hence forth as The Green Doom. While Peter lay injured it was decided to inject him with the only super soldier formula left. Ozborsch had killed all the personnel and destroyed all the papers concerning the project including the mixture of alloys for Peter’s prototype super shield. After a few days Peter’s body healed beyond recognition. When he had come to he was a new man, full of muscles and with quick agility and prowess. But there were weird side effects as well. Soon Peter developed still more uncanny abilities : clinging to walls, incredible reflexes, and agility, even more unbelievably ; he could sense danger before it happened. After further analysis it was surmised that Peter must have been bitten by one or even more of the radioactive spiders in the lab where he landed after Doom’s savage assault. Soon he was more or less recovered and told of his uncles death and how he bravely tried to stop Doom. Peter felt guilt ridden, if only he hadn’t lost his temper, perhaps he could have simply leveled with Ozborsch, he understood his old roommate’s’ jealousy and bitterness, in one fell swoop he felt responsible now for all the loss of life, but also the loss of his friend whom he felt he had carelessly pushed over the edge. Most of all he felt directly responsible for his Uncle’s sacrifice, a man he had considered as a father, while in the last instances of their time together he had turned his back on him. This guilt would haunt Peter for the rest of his life. But Peter’s remorse was put aside for a time for there was a war to win and Peter would represent everything good and winning that America would have to offer. He under went the most intensive training learning the deadliest combat techniques and war tactics. He was given a shield and armored mail. He made a promise to himself that as soon as they allowed him some time off he would design an even better “lighter” style of armor that would compensate his agility and dexterity not hamper it, while providing him with enough protection to withstand a tank’s shell. Thus after a year on the front lines, he managed to design his mach II armor, it was a lighter material, yet highly invulnerable, also he equipped the chest with a large Omni beam projector. He developed flight and infra red vision and radar. He had installed handy web shooters as a reminder of his strange mutated powers. He went on several successful missions, on the front lines, as well as espionage type missions where he was sometimes dubbed The Iron American or Captain Spiderman. On one of these missions he would meet the man who would become his arch nemesis for the rest of the century: Loki’s red metal skull. As the Reich’s war efforts proved more and more disastrous the Nazis made plans to summon and control the old Norse gods of legends. They had even secretly, with the help of a man calling himself Loki to uncover what German archeologist claimed to be Thor’s hammer itself. But what the Nazis didn’t know was that although the man calling himself Loki certainly had powers he was by no means the Norse god he claimed to be, he was a mutant, who could control metal, but he was also a scientist who wanted to make a potion for himself based on the American’s super soldier formula that would give him immortality. With the Green Doom’s help he actually managed to summon Loki whom he bound inside a metal skull. Loki, the god of mischief and cunning, was not at all happy to find that he himself had been tricked, and what was worse, by a mere mortal. Although his powers were hampered while trapped in the skull, they where by no means lost. He used his subterfuge to tip off the allied recon services, bringing The Iron American right to the place where he would find Thor’s hammer. A huge battle was fought between The Iron American, Doom, and Magnus (the metal mutant), Much magic was released and grave forces were threatening to arrive to destroy the earth itself when Dr. Strange’s ghost (the good doctor trapped on another plane) helped Peter to delve into his own arcane psyche. The result was a huge explosion which killed Magnus, or so everyone thought, because he was somehow sucked into the metal skull releasing Loki in the transmutation. Half of Loki’s own power however remained trapped in the now dormant skull (which was buried under tons of rock and metal). Doom then faced a vengeful Loki and would probably have died if the Iron American, who was himself severely wounded, had not found and picked up Thor’s hammer, becoming the God of Thunder. Loki bowed out gracefully vowing revenge (he would be banned from the earthen plane and only would be able to act through the Red Metal Skull, sometimes controlling it, sometimes not). Doom beaten twice and then saved by his cursed enemy, who was now transformed into a god, vowed revenge and escaped while The Iron American with the help of Dr. Strange made sure Loki was banished from the earthen plane. The battle was won, and the war was virtually over. Peter felt lost and confused, now he could summon the power of a god but Thor’s persona fought with his own strong will for control of his earthen body. Under Strange’s guidance he went into retreat disappearing from all societies until he came to terms with his new condition. For ten years he wandered the remote corners of the earth, always expanding his knowledge of the arcane powers which were his birthright, while coming to terms with his symbiotic relation with the god of thunder. In the late fifties the time came for his mystic trail. Calling on the God Thor to inhabit his body on the earthly plane, he followed Dr. Strange in astral form on a quest in a dimension far removed from our own, a dimension where great evil dwelled and needed to be vanquished. Before going Dr. Strange charged Thor to defend the earthly plane, from any overspill of the evil they were about to face. Thus Thor found himself once again in Midgard, but he also found that he trusted his “host” and his “host’s” weird father, whom he sensed to be two of the most honorable of Midgardians he had ever met. Thor, under Strange’s instructions, headed for New York, where he once again faced The Green Doom, who was in full form. He was hard pressed and all might have been lost if not for the intervention of four beautiful French girls with incredible powers who called themselves Les Filles Fantastiques. (the fantastic girls) After Doom had been defeated, Thor sensing the spirit of the Valkerye in these four young girls offered to teach them the ways of battle, for although they had raw force they were still very inexperienced. At first their Gaullic pride was offended but then they quickly agreed (beside two of the girls were already swooning all over Goldilocks!). Thus formed the Fantastic Avengers! For the next 15 years the team grew into a solid formation, defending the earth time and again from would be coquerers, (Loki’s Red Metal Skull , Green Doom, etc…) and various alien invasions (particularly the savage Skree). But nothing could prepare them for the arrival of an immensely powerful being, a herald called the Silver Tamer, who quickly defeated the Fantastic Avengers thus opening the way for the Thanos Galaxy, an evil sentient being incorporating a vast galaxy consuming everything in it’s path as it moved across the universe. As stars and planet began colliding on the out skirts of the milky way and the earth was thrown in what looked like it’s final hour Peter Stark Strange, wielding awesome cosmic powers once again possessed his defunct body bringing it and the god of thunder back to life! He then helped heal les Femmes Fantastique (well, they were no longer just girls) and after a terrible struggle managed to vanquish the Silver Tamer. The group was still battle weary and wounded when the Green Doom made a sneak attack. As he saw his comrades drop one by one from Doom’s assault a newer even deadlier threat appeared in the sky over Manhattan, Galactic Thanos had taken form, that of a giant man, and he was going to punish whatever little insect had defeated his herald. This was too much for Peter, the stress combined with the raw magic and cosmic powers in the air must have triggered something deep within the erstwhile hero, for what happened next not even Dr. Strange, who fought the death galaxy on another dimension, could imagine. Peter suddenly transformed into a huge green hulking beast, a being of pure ferocious strength and fury. Unbreakable claws came from the backs of his hands. This being of dark power had but one objective : “Green Wolverine…destroy big bad man!”. With that he held tightly to Thor’s hammer and while lightning bolts and thunder rolled across Manhattan toppling buildings in the process (most of the island had thankfully been evacuated by this time!) jumped headlong into Galactic Thanos who fell from the sky with the force of a mountain, crashing onto central park. But the Thanos Galaxy was power incarnate and quickly recovered blasting Green Wolverine into orbit. For Once Green Doom, who somehow felt related to the strange beast did a selfless act and made his own assault on the giant. Meanwhile while La Rocheuse tried to rally the other girls, Madame Fantastique had managed to rig a contraption which could reverse cosmic energies, creating a black hole which would probably destroy their awesome opponent. The problem was creating the hole on earth would destroy not only Galactic Thanos but also the entire planet!!! Doom with the help of two of the Fantastiques were fighting a losing battle, when out of the sky a raging scream could be heard. The Green Wolverine was flying back, thunder and lightning blazing, hurling his hammer he toppled Galactic Thanos, then while his foe was felled the green monster in a frenzy of claws and muscles began ripping the cosmic giant to pieces. Soon all was silent. Galactic Thanos was destroyed. La Rocheuse ran towards Green Wolverine wanting to give him a big victory kiss, but Green Doom held her back. “beware Mademoiselle, for that is not the warrior you knew”, and he was right. Green Wolverine turned towards his friends with a snarl and began menacingly approaching them. Green Doom readied himself to attack but la Femme Invisible suddenly appeared before the creature, talking to him, soothing him. Soon the transformation began again, leaving a weakened Thor/Stark who collapsed on the ground. Madame Fantastique ran to them carrying the strange device. “The galaxy man is reforming and regenerating vast energy, we have little time, we must use the trans-teleporter to go into the heart of the rogue galaxy and detonate this black hole device, otherwise all is lost”. “You can’t do that Rosalyne, it’s sheer suicide” yelled La Rocheuese. “Everyone look” cried La Flame swooping across the battle field. Sure enough Galactic Thanos’ body was regenerating. “Give the device to me” said Green Doom calmly. “Don’t do it Rosy we can’t trust him” But something in Green Doom’s eyes made Madame Fantastique hesitate. The man was a true villain through and through, their worst enemy, yet his eyes told of a nobility and indomitable will which very few men possessed. She handed Doom the device, “come we don’t have much time”, but Doom raised his hand, “I will be quicker with a spell,” “You tin head” yelled La Rochuese “you’re signing your own death warrant!”. “The Green Doom does not intend to die” and with that he disappeared. Minutes later the being known as Galactic Thanos simple faded away. Madame Fanatstique checked her monitors and sure enough the device had been triggered. A huge black hole now existed in the place of the deadly galaxy. Thanos’ herald was stripped of his terrible powers, revealing a perplexed humanoid, “oh thank the gods the nightmare is over” The Fantastic Avengers began rebuilding New York. Thus ends the current adventures of Peter Stark Strange, alias, Thor, alias Captain Spiderman, Alias, The Iron American, or if you like : Captain Strange Iron Spider Thor, whom we will simple call from now on : Marvel Man! Re: Heroclix - Avengers vs JLA Well let's play! I'm in Paris, no really. Where are you? Maybe we could arrange a JLA vs Avengers contest the next time I visit the States, this summer, we were thinking about going to the east coast around Boston, or maybe florida, trying to find an apartment swap. Are you around there? Honestly I'm surprised not more people have tried that contest, I looked on the hero clix forum but it's pretty dead. I think for comic geeks (like me not you) it's a primordial question that needs to be answered, which team is better, and I think the heroclix system is a perfect medium to put it to the test, it's simple fast and to me at least, mirrors the 4 color ethos of comic book style battles. guess I'll just have to keep collecting and playing with my son, but all he wants to do is play with his DS Talk about a generation gap man!

Hello I would love to hear any stories or anecdotes pertaining to an Avengers vs JLA heroclix contest. Although with my son we have a good collection we don't have the core teams. I would really like to see which group won the most and how. The eternal question of which team is best could be resolved this way, at least in some part. Thanks

Re: Comics are getting too steamy... hi I just read the the first ten post and felt I had to state my opinion, My kids 7 and 4 are starting to really like comics, but trying to find a recent comic which is not graphically violent or overtly sexual just ain't happening, Now don't get me wrong, I love mature themes in comics Astro City, Kingdom Come, the Invisibles just to name a few, but try finding a comic that has content on a "SPIDEY" level for young readers, it just doesn't exist. It's really sad, writers and the comic industry in general have forgotten that comics ARE or were written for preteens. They forget that there is still a large market for these "early" readers. Sigh.

Re: Artifacts That was the idea, the past is lost in legend, there are little or no records, people live in a bronze age environment, but there is an inkling of references, inside jokes and characters allowing the PC's to figure out what world they are on. the secret of the catastrophy will be revealed through the game. When I talk of Cap's shield, which is somewhere lost on a blasted battle field, I won't say "And there you see Cap's Shield", but rather keep to objective discriptions of items. I just need help getting a decent list going and possible "survivors" from the past, or what forms would their legacies would take.
