  1. This discussion on templates reminds me of a question I've been meaning to ask. What do you all think about the Super Hero Character Template Collection - PDF in the online store? Are they worth getting? Are they usuable? Is there electronic versions of the same that can be easily dropped into PhotoShop? What about Poser versions?
  2. Ah yes! You understand young grasshopper.
  3. Re: Re: Re: Re: San Angelo - Your input We appreciate that very much! We'll see what we can do about SAS stats in future products. The thing that we have to be concerned with though is *too* many. I know that seems strange, but consider the amount of extra printing and materials that has to go into it and that in turn increases the cost. Perhaps just some conversion notes would be better?
  4. Ah yes, the slippery slope of intellectual property.
  5. That is exactly what I am doing in several cases. As I mentioned before I am aging the city several years, and believe me a lot can happen in even a short time. I think you will be most pleasantly surprised as new faces appear and some old ones go away, and still others continue to "work".
  6. Re: Re: San Angelo - Your input So then would you say that you are a proponent of the multiple system stats that we are considering putting in all the books? How many others would consider this a major selling point?
  7. Again, very interesting. Out of curiousity how much do folks know about SF's history? Where do folks think gold was discovered, and what city grew because of it? Given the rest of SA's history, what do folks think is similar to SF and LA? This is very fascinating! Well, back to the subject at hand... keep those comments about coming that relate to my initial questions. Thanks!
  8. It is extremely interesting where everyone thinks SA is. I am not going to dispel the mystery since everyone seems to have different impressions and we honestly like that and don't want to restrict its location. However, I will tell you that San Fran is not nearly as similar to it as another city in CA.
  9. There are several things that you can do. You can easily ask your FLGS to order a copy. You can visit any of the cons that come to town, historically there is at least one SA game being run. You can get the first edition book for around $10 from the Gold Rush Games wesite while supplies last. This is a valid point as the second edition will be advancing the material several years, and you may want to get a bigger history of recent events. Also, we will most likely be releasing a Preview PDF for the book, very similar to what we just did for Dragon's Gate. Finally, stay tuned to these boards. I will be discussing things as I go forward, and asking questions.
  10. It is very interesting how people's perceptions and interpretations work. The games that I have ran with SA have been closer to realistic games than 4-color games. I see SA as very realistic with only a slight bend toward comic books. However, one of its main selling points is that it can easily be bent to allow any genre you want with the exception of fantasy, but even that could be down if you throw out all the modern stuff and drop its size. In any event, thanks D-Man great comments. I will keep them in mind going forward.
  11. Very interesting. Where do you think SA is located in CA, or put another way, where do you put SA?
  12. Winterhawk and Monolith, thanks for the great candid input! A couple quick comments: Power wise and character wise, I have many ideas that I am toying with and Mark and I have many discussions ahead. The real emphasis of SA has been and will continue to be "the real world". Mark and Pat originally set out to make a more realistic setting based on the characters being part of a bigger picture and they did that perfectly in my opinion. For the next edition I am going to maintain that same feel, but I'm also going to add more flavor. I personally wouldn't buy a book that was just updated stats either so don't expect that. Both Mark and I have said many times on these boards, the SA Boards, and mailing lists that we won't do that to our customers. There will be a lot of the same content though for continuity, but I am aging the city and people six years so there will be many surprises in store as well. For now, you can anticipate that the 2nd edition books will have similarities to the first edition books, but the thing to bare in mind is that it will not only be updated and added to, but it will also be the basis for the rest of the line as the new books come out. Again thanks for contributing and you can expect me to be talking with everyone as I continue moving forward so keep up the communication!
  13. Regarding feedback, I have started a new thread with just that in mind. If you haven't already, please pop in and check it out.
  14. That is really great to hear! You not only understand the setting, but have an insight into what was intended by the designers. Thank you for your input!
  15. With all the new hype and interest in the San Angelo line, I wanted to pick your brains and get some feedback. A while ago I ran a poll asking who had heard of San Angelo and who was using it. What I would like to know is: [*]For those of you who use it, why? [*]For those of you that own, but don't play in the world, why? [*]For those of you that looked at, but decided it wasn't for you, why? [*]For those of you that haven't seen it, are you going to look into it now, and why? [*]For those of you that have no interest in looking at it or using it, why? [/list=1] Feel free to be as brief or detailed as you want. Again, if you would rather not post publicly, shoot me a private message or email. Thank you for your time!
  16. Also, any feedback that anyone has regarding the preview would be appreciated. It is my aim to make a product line that you will all like and enjoy. To that end I am very open to comments and the like. If you don't want to post them publicly than feel free to drop my a private message or email. Enjoy! PS Tell your friends to check it also if they haven't already the more folks reading it, the more feedback we'll get, and the better our books will be. PSS We at Gold Rush Games have a demo program available called Prospectors. If you currently run San Angelo games, or even other great games from GRG, or might be thinking about it, you should check it out.
  17. I would suggest starting off with a couple "normals" as opponents. Try some bank robberies, hostage situations, detective work, that sort of thing. Then segway to a lesser point "super", and continue moving toward her point value. This will do a couple things: 1) She will win, and this will boost her enjoyment level and confidence. 2) She won't get bogged down by any long combats. 3) She will be learning the ropes in small fun increments. 4) It will help suspend some of the initial disbelief if she has any. As for her character choice, that is a tough one. One the one hand I would suggest just giving her a pregenerated character and explaining what she can do. However, allowing her to create a character would give her more of an attachment to it. The suggestion of asking her what she likes from movies and tv is definitely a good one if you go the create a character from scratch route. Anyway, that is just my 2 sense. Just remember the most important thing... No matter what have fun!
  18. Thank you. I certainly hope that everyone agrees with you and buys the books. As much as I love the genre, and gaming in particular, I also like money. Of course it goes without saying, that the more books you all buy from us the more I'll be able to make as well. (hint hint) note to self: look into using avatar as spokesperson for SA line...
  19. LOL I highly doubt it, but you never know.
  20. You'll just have to deal with it
  21. I can tell we are all on the same page. I too liked the way Enemies was laid out and the tie in with the NPCs, I believe strongly in keeping San Angelo "alive" and growing so you will continue to see a lot of the elements that you bring up above repeated in future books. Regarding the bending of the rules, I may have to in a couple circumstances, but as you said I will explain why. I have always been a "character developer" versus a "optimizer/minmaxer" so hopefully that will come out in everything that I write, and you all can keep me honest.
  22. Hmm... any suggestions? I know that when I want a good story to read I usually go on suggestions from friends who haven't steered me wrong before. HEY. That has already been done for SA... Hmm... any other suggestions on how we might keep impatient customers like you from putting it down? Any help would be much appreciated. In fact, that goes for everyone who may read this thread. I love constructive criticism, but it has to be constructive and usually followed up with suggestions.
  23. I have and will build all characters using HeroDesigner so any mistakes are all Dan's fault. Just kidding. I will endeavor to be "By The Book".
  24. I think Mark already answered this above, but I'll reiterate. The marketing hasn't started yet so we will all just have to hang tight until that time. I believe that all your concerns will be met, and met well. Trust me when I say that Mark is by no means trying to do any of this. I will ask that you have a little patience with us, and bare with us as we get the ball rolling again. As a long time consumer myself I feel your anxiety, and will do my best to answer questions, and respond to comments, but let's not get into battles about business practices and the like.
