    Lotsa BS in that story.

"Whatever. If you are that incompetent, you're fired and blacklisted from working any IT or government position ever again. That includes bus driver, crosswalk guard or school cafeteria position. Oh and if you are not that incompetent, you need to stand trial for election tampering. Enjoy your time with "Bubba."

This is why we have laws.

This is corrosive effect of having a class of citizens who are above the law.

And this is something everyone should have seen coming decades ago.

Now it's probably too late to change course.

In retrospect I think our politics would have been better had Nixon gone to prison and all of his misdeeds fully exposed to public scrutiny. It might have had a stronger deterrent effect upon subsequent administrations(including this one).  It annoys me to no end that the media treats impeachment as the end of the disciplinary process for presidents.  News flash: if a president commits "high crimes and misdemeanors", there's a very strong chance that some of those high crimes are also serious felonies.  It's not only "okay" for presidents, once removed or out of office, to be prosecuted, it's okay for them to be incarcerated too.  It sends the message that no one is above the law in our country.

I would give some respect to Ford. He was not, of course, elected, and I don't know that he had a chance in 1976. The preemptive pardon to Nixon was, I think, an attempt to get past that episode with a minimum of recrimination.

I feel that nowadays those in power look to maximize recrimination, drag out sordid spectacles, and play spectacle for their bases, to obscure just how little they actually do.

Modern CFL bulbs come in shades of very fairly yellow that really do look like the old ones. Have you looked at modern cfl and led bulbs?

BTW recently at a yard sale I picked up an old style incandescent flashlight, extremely well made, red metal, rubber armor rims and grips, very good switch, snap on brand. It had been badly treated, batteries left in it to leak and some idiot has mangled the spring making contact with the bulb, which was missing. I bought it for a dollar, spent time getting the old leaking D cells out, putting vinegar in it to neutralize the acid, fixing the spring and getting it to work. There was a space bulb in the body in the battery spring and input it in with fresh new D cells.

I was amazed at how dim it was. This was a very Hugh end, high quality, high cost flashlight when it was made. The light was so dim and had that gold tint to it it was really of very limited use.

I dropped in a cheap, basic LED replacement bulb that was made just to upgradenold flashlights to led power. Good god the difference was astounding! Literally 10x brighter, much longer range and the battery life was tripled at the least!

There was just no comparison the led bulb outclassed the old light in every way, by a long way.

then we have something in common. But then understand I'm one o those whacky guys who sees North  America and South America as two different Continents and just plain "America" as a country. Yes, I know many have decided it's one continent... but it's two. I know because Teddy Freaking Roosevelt sealed the deal it that way by arranging a canal! Thanks Teddy!

So to all my fellow North Americans be ye Canadian, Mexican, or whatever. I say rock on

And I hear South Americans are lovely people too

EDIT: And yes, of course I Know  you can call the country 'The United States' if you want.  That's two thirds of it's name  but if someone calls me a yankee or a "USian" or a  Gringo don't expect me to answer. Pet peeve. I try to respect what others prefer to be called, so I expect the same in return. Not singling you out, LL. But like I said, pet peeve.

EDIT EDIT: And I apologize. I'm probably being very defensive and unnecessarily so. I seem to be in a bad mood today

Yes. Although that someone might be a glowing radioactive cockroach.

It shouldn't be that hard. How are they going to adjust the platform? Will they counter voter suppression in Wisconsin? What are they going to do about foreign social media operations? How are they going to convince disaffected GOP voters to vote for them?

I really feel like the currently strategy is to sit back and hope for an impeachment, and hope is not a strategy.

I think the lashing out in this case is even stronger because there is a perceived lack of voice.  It's not just a matter of others cutting in line, it's a matter of being sidelined entirely, or, again, the perception of it.

Examples I have heard and to some degree agree with but I think are oversimplified:

Illegal Immigrants are breaking the law. Point this out, or even use the term "illegal" and you may be listed a racist and any further argument on your part dismissed. Me? I'm more angry with corporations on this subject than I am the individuals but that won't save me if someone decides ANY Problem with illegal immigration means bigotry.

Some are angry about the PC movement for the same reason. It seems to many that terms White Privilege is used less and less for "Many minorities suffer historical disadvantages that have affected the current day and more" for "If you are a straight white male-shut up". The term comes across as being used to shut down discourse instead of actually getting one going; however noble the original intent behind it.

Oh, and racist doesn't mean racist anymore. it means YOU a white guy can be racist. Because someone has decided to redefine it so that only you can really be a racist since only YOU have the power. (Stated as fact, and you can't even debate the nature of power without a label on your forehead). It does smack suspiciously of rigging the discourse.

Oh, stagnant wages in the city are a problem...
but you know those rural and suburban folks are just hilarious when they gripe about it and should shut up.

And if your job is obsolete, why don't you just take go get a college degree in something useful? As if it were that easy, or even always possible (Again, PERCEPTION)

The general feeling I get from many  is if you shut folks out of a conversation and turn that conversation into a 24/7 Lecture, one utterly lacking good faith, don't be surprised if they get up and walk away.

And don't be surprised if some scam artist like trump curries their favor by pretending HE hears them and won't scoff.

Again, I'm talking PERCEPTION as much as facts (Which are often multilayered and complicated).. I think the curse of America 2017  is we have most of the population wearing tunnel vision goggles. Honest to god, if the middle class and down minorities and the middle class whites could lift those and look around, they might eat the rich or at least the bankers and CEOs of fortune 500 companies

    But that's another gripe.

And I don't want to go 100 Marx

Barring Groucho, NEVER go 100 Marx

EDIT: And excuse the many typos and worse. I used to know English. I really did.

Wrong.  I give you the M&P 15-22 Integral ... by Innovative Arms: https://www.innovativearms.com/portfolio/iasw-integral/

The loudest sound this rifle makes is the sound of the action cycling (which is what you're hearing in this video).  For comparison, each cycle of the action makes about the same amount of noise a compound bow makes when releasing an arrow -- making it as silent as a bow and/or crossbow ... and probably a LOT quieter than that WWII commando crossbow when you consider the noise and time of re-cocking it (since the full cycle of the M&P 15-22 entails re-charging the weapon).

Yes, it is that quiet ... with standard or even high velocity ammunition, no less -- due to the barrel porting that's covered by the suppressor.  (At the range I've been asked if mine was a pellet gun!)

Transportation is still disrupted, and (aside from imperishables like canned goods) it can't be stored, and at the sites where it's needed it can't be cooked anyway (as noted there).

I see eerie parallels between this situation in Puerto Rico and the Great Famine in Ireland in the mid-1800s. The English governmental policies had set up the island for a catastrophe via laws that (to boost English businesses) increased absentee land ownership, restricted food imports, and so on, and when the blight hit ... it took more than a century for the island to recover. Victoria's government actually impeded foreign relief, and in retrospect it is difficult to distinguish what happened there from genocide, except that it was caused through willful negligence rather than active intent to murder. The present US administration seems to have the same attitudes, and so far, policies, vis-a-vis the affected island.
