Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Good day for jobs. Jenn got a position at the new Z Gallery. Nice bit of news on her birthday. Decent benefits and a slight raise in pay. Though we're betting the job that Jenn really wants will materialize just before she's supposed to start. That should make it interesting.
On my end, the hunt continues. Month 8.
I did talk with someone about a contract that while I could probably do the work, I don't have the experience they wanted. The guy thought the recruiter might have something for me next week.
In the meantime I finished up a mini-contract (10 hours) with the possibility of some more. If I can pull in just a week's worth, that's one month of mortage. This month we've stopped paying the credit cards, last month the mortage gets paid. Interesting talking with the Bankruptcy attorney. I may have to retain them just so I can refer the credit card companies to the lawyer. I've already told them, no money. Still they call every day. Citicard is the worst. They call constantly. Today, five times. Unethical as heck, but I want to figure out how to pay off the student loan with the Citicard. There's enough room on it... Then we declare bankruptcy. (Not sure if that would actually work. Figures there's some sort of closed loophole there)
That and the stress of someone who's very important to the cat shelter went in for heart surgery. The doctor saw her last week and said "you need surgery next week"
There were complications, but she pulled thru. Her heart stopped while she was in the recovery room and restarted itself 20 seconds later.
I'm hoping she listens to her doctor and doesn't exert herself, but it's probably going to take a rope and the rest of the volunteers.

Re: Working on a combined DC/Marvel universe
Oh' date=' and, uhh... sorry about the pic of you on the NGD boards. [/quote']As well you should. Hmm, I just got an idea. (probably one that won't make Hermit much happier)

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Your poor childhood.Friend's of mine at college met my grandmother and mother for some function over a weekend. After they left one turned at me and said "How the hell did you turn out so normal!?"

Dear president, we would like to invite you for a Hassenpfeffer dinner...

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Thanks, Skaramine. As for "taking better care of myself" -- I didn't do anything to "deserve" getting this. My best guess, since it came on me on Monday, is that I was exposed to it on Saturday when I went to a big gem & mineral show in Kansas City.
It was probably from one of them meteor rocks.

Re: Odd 2x Stun rule
Yeah' date=' this ruling is kinda nasty. Of course, I don't like the idea of down people taking x2 damage to begin with. Why wouldn't everyone, always hit someone who is down, just to make sure they don't get up? Icky. My group doesn't use this rule, so the ruling won't effect us...[/quote']Yea. I was already ignoring the 2x stun anyway. Generally if the villian gets knocked out, I let them lie there. I just thought it an odd enough ruling to point it out.

Re: Which are the optional bits?
Don't listen to him!And let me state for the record I was a fool not to abandon -1/3" long ago! A FOOL!!! Don't be a fool!
Hey! Wait a minute! Have I been counting my range mods differently lately?
-
Knockback does 2x stun if the initial blow that caused the knockback knocks the person out?
Hmm, I wouldn't of thought so since the target's Forcefield etc would still be on until the end of the segment. Of course, maybe I'm wrong with that as well.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Finally got to the doctor this morning. The visit was supposed to be my quarterly check-up' date=' extension of my diabetes mediction prescription, and so on. I just [i']happen[/i] to be very ill at the same time.Yow. I hope you are drinking lots of water now. Sinus infection as well. Take it easy and hope you feel better soon.

Re: My two cents
Hate to nit-pick too much' date=' but 4th was really intended to be universal, the focus on Champions being really if you bought the bundled product which included both Champions and the HERO core rules. Wasn't there also a Fantasy version that did much the same?[/quote']Nope. But there was a soft cover that only covered the Hero Rules that came out later.

From last game:
Justice Squad Thursday 10pm: The Metal Men find a new house, while Spectrum gets suspicious of Hamlet & Nexus' new odd behavior.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
I've found that 1000 miles seems to do the trick nicely, for me.I've managed to stop hating my mother, after all . . . ^ v ^
Yea. Once my mom lived in another state, it was much better. And that was just 250 miles. Though my mom causes me stress in about 10 minutes, but I can deal with it for a weekend. Any longer than that and I start having problems.
What's interesting is that most people find my mom to be very nice, which she is. However, if they spend longer than a certain amount of time, they start going insane. My wife didn't understand until my mom came by to visit for a week.

Re: The Passing of a Legend.. Andre Norton
It's sad, but she lived a very full life.
There was a previous thread started over in NGD when it was learned she was going home.
edit: No apologies needed for placement IMO.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Maybe you could just take "Accidental Change: Into Someone Who Just Pissed Off The Other Party In The Conversation" or something...I think you got something there.
-
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Actually' date=' shouldn't that be "PS: Pissing off people, NCC"? Having an NCC KS means you'd have occassion flashes of [i']how[/i] to do it, but you wouldn't necessarily follow through. A PS with NCC seems to me more like a way to model "Whoops...did I just do that?"I suppose so. But maybe you also have a disad to use said KS?

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Hmm. "KS: How to Piss off people, No Consious Control" I'm getting a lot of milage out of NCC

Re: Jack-Jack Parr
No evening is complete without a chainsaw.I thought it was standard fare. The one time I babysat I actually had a chainsaw that I was sharpening. (Neighbor's kid and the neighbor and I were cutting down all the eucalyptus that ringed our properties...)

Yesterday I paid 1200 bucks for a 10-year old car to replace the car I have, which is old enough to go to the prom.<story snipped >
Ouch! Sorry.

Re: "So, Thor hits Superman with Mjolnir..."
The New Gods suck.Well, Ok. Let's not try that tact.
Though David's answer was more informative.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Cool. Now Lemming is the star in CSI: NGD.You think those little reenactments of how the bullet penetrates the liver in the CSI shows are disturbing?

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Try harder. OpenOffice is wonderful but it's not exactly the same as MSOffice so it's going to be an unpopular switch for the clueless users. You have to sweeten it for them by offering new laptops with the saved money or something. This also gives the IT manager a way to keep his annual budget from shrinking due to "disuse".And this is probably close to the tact I would use. I just need to get the lay of the land first before making suggestions of disrupting the current situation. From what I know of their current setup, there's a lot of cruft, but since it's a non-profit, they may have some special deals. We'll see.

Re: "So, Thor hits Superman with Mjolnir..."
Since I'm not as familiar with the New Gods, I was wondering how Superman does with them. At least there we have a bit more history to go with and I figure they're closer to what Thor is like. (Not quite, but they're both Kirby at their beginning)

Totoro is pretty good. I liked it, but it's odd. We showed it for our cat shelter movie benefit.
I need to check out "The Cat Returns".
And thumbs up on Incredibles and Long Kiss.
