  1. Re: Why can't Teleport do the Move attacks?

I'm a bit puzzled as to why we think Nightcrawler's actions in X2 constitute Move By / Move Through. He 'ports into position' date=' makes an attack. Next phase, he does it again. I think what you're seeing as a 'Move By' is actually a reflection of Nightcrawler's very high SPD relative to the Secret Service agents. He might get 3, possibly 4 actions (depending on the build) for every one the agents get. Hence, his actions could be modeled perfectly well just by using the normal SPD chart. IMO. :)

[/quote']well, I was just working off the idea of justifying the autofire route. But you make a damn fine point. ;)
  2. Re: Down with active points

Unfortunately, while this was a good step, it did nothing to reduce the abuse. It is still dirt cheap in real cost to make an attack that, combined with STR, breaks the curve on DC being dished out.

I tend to agree. I see HA as a good power when used with moderation, but that applies to many things. ;) When it was at 3 points we disallowed it in VPPs etc... Yea, when added to STR it can still be way abused.

45d6? I just rolled 40d6 the other night for the heat blast equivalent of a nuclear bomb? That is rare in our games. What level of characters were you guys playing? Our biggest and baddest would struggle to break 30d6 on a Haymaker. Sheesh! :)

Well, my 145 STR Brick, Scales, had a 60 point VPP, 65 dbl hard PD&ED and 1/2 damage reduction. He was probably the worst of the lot for most things though another poster Chromatic had a martial artists that was close.

When Sam allowed us to twid out we could be really disgusting. The worst was when Sam was trying to just over power us and we kept winning anyway. So he brought in Magivac. 600 point VPP. When he threw the 40d6 killing explosion and Chromatic Dragon & Scales were still standing after that, he said that was the last combat he'd run for the Protectors. :D (Which was fine with us).

The other group, The Liberators, who were a team in a Blade Runner/Star Wars/Dreadstar future were sometimes worse, but mainly because we didn't use many straight up powers. My character, Road Runner was just a very good move-by artist. 25d6 per hit, up to 29 OCV. He's the character that would do 1000d6 in a rnd with without slowing down combat. I was incredibly fast at counting dice.

By that point we only used these teams when there was a galactic threat. Though many from the Protectors were used as patrons.

  3. Re: Down with active points

I was going to say the same thing! (I'll rep you when I can.) I've allowed high AP powers for a long time... and I'm much more worried about what Hand Attacks can do to drive DC way off the charts without coming close to breaking an AP cap.

I think that's why I like the current cost of Hand attack having the higher AP than 3 points.

Back in college when we were playing some of our megateams we wondered what the various special effects were when someone threw a 45d6 haymaker, etc... and came up with similar effects. Joked that one of the biggest expenses of the team were enviromental cleanup.

By that point we were rarely fighting villians close by any NPCs

  4. Re: Why can't Teleport do the Move attacks?

I like Hugh's idea of the EB Autofire, Selective area best. Probably some limitations to think of are Damage Shields and perhaps making the teleporter do as part of a teleport. So the whole manuever would be a full phase.

Grabbing weapons and the like could be stretching.

Expensive if you want to do both in the same phase as a multi attack.

Just putting an adder on tport (or autofire) could be an elegant way as well, though possibly under costed.

  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Ever start typing out a response to a post and find that you've typed way too much and still didn't really say anything of use, and then just delete the whole damn thing and move on?

    Happens to me a lot.

Probably not as much as it should, though :)

I do all the time. I've deleted posts after I submitted them as well.

  6. Re: Musings on Random Musings

A rifle ambush? Yeah. No handgun and shooting training is going to protect from that.

Body armor, and just that old cop sixth sense are all you have. And even then, you can't wear body armor on your face.

There was just a show on Discovery about stuff. Accident preventions and how they test various things (Watching trucks impact bridges in odd ways was fun), but they covered body armor. And they showed this one cop being shot. He survived thankfully, but he squealed like a girl. Understandable, but they showed this sequence about five times.

  7. Re: Say somthing clever... PLEASE!

It's occasionally taken me a week or more to spread enough Rep around to rep someone I thought deserved it. And that's repping other people twice or more each day I'm on. Then again' date=' this last time I was in the middle of a move and wasn't on for 4 days, so maybe that doesn't count.[/quote']

5 times/day you can rep. Though I'm not sure how it figures when it resets. More than 5 in a 24 hours period is my guess. You then have to rep 20 other people before getting back to repeat on someone. So it's possible to rep the same person every four days.

I've been reserving reps for getting knocking a couple others off the front page, adding rep to the "official" hero folk, and newbie catapult.

  8. Re: Knockback Reduction

Which is part of my point. It shouldn't get a bonus' date=' or an extra bonus, for remaining useless in a situation it would be useless in anyway.[/quote']

Very True, but since you're taking some knockback in all cases there is argument for a limitation. Actually, I'm fine with a -1. Most of the utility of not getting back is not having to roll breakfall or getting up. (IMO)

  9. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Why are all the newbies posting here?

Did the RFK thread making Google get tons of people interested in the microcosm that is the NGD?

    Are they all LOL accounts?

    Why Lord Why?

Things that make you go "Hmmmm"

There are only a few people I'm think of as real, but I've got too many RL issues to worry about some random electrons.

  10. Re: Nudity and Sex in comics books

I may get flamed for this' date=' but I also think there is nothing wrong with the 'rating system' some comics use. It works for movies, and it should work for comic books. I know some folks equate such labelling with censorship, but I see it as just a good way for attentive parents to be more aware of what the contents of a comic book issue might be. Plus, when someone acts all outraged that there is sexual content in a comic book, it's nice to say "What did you think 'Mature' on the cover corner meant? Duh..." :)[/quote']

I think seeing it as censorship isn't quite the issue. Probably a fear of sliding back to the authority seal that had strict guidelines.

That and perhaps noticing that movie ratings are a bit off anyway, or at least seem to be.

That being said, I don't mind a self rating system just as long as it's evident to the buyer. (well, the educated buyer. some people just won't get it)

  11. Re: Knockback Reduction

His whole power scheme is based on being able to absorb half the kinetic energy of any given attack or such like and use it himself. That's why he doesn't want an absolute value for it.

Tech's suggestion might be the best of both worlds.

Tech's suggestion is exactly what I would of posted. ;)
