  1. Trump brings the inconoclastic, rebellious attitude, a presence, and a following. Granted: on policy he brings nothing, but he didn't have anything in '16 either. Lake brings absolutely nothing but election denial, as far as I can tell.
  2. So the conference came out with their verdict WRT the UM/MSU tunnel brawl of a few weeks ago: https://www.theonlycolors.com/2022/11/28/23482702/big-ten-releases-official-statement-tunnel-incident-announces-disciplinary-action-michigan-state Slap. Slap. Pinky slap. Crump's facing the most serious charges. The others listed there, tho, are all facing felony charges. I think these are light. Even without charges being filed, most of these warrant longer suspensions. The only plausible factor to me is, the charges are still out there, and MSU may want/need/be mandated by law to do more, once those are settled. The total punishment may end up being warranted...and to be sure, going through the trauma of a trial is a serious punishment on its own.
  3. They signed him just to the practice squad tho, so it's not like it costs them anything. Perhaps the most scathing indictment about the Broncos this year. Adam Schein on NFL.com, the worst losses of the week, this was #8 (of 9): Steelers-Colts is...pretty much as expected. 2 inept offenses. Joe dropped a nugget earlier...Colts had a turnover on their opening possession...for the 3rd time this year. In 12 games? Wow.
  4. This BS is why getting Trump's endorsement is now a BAD thing. It simply no longer plays. Yahoo story's headline is very bad in one sense: The tweet says Lake "should be installed". Using "demands" is spin-doctoring in a highly partisan way. Had it been a speech, then intonation and delivery might justify it, but the words, at least of the tweet they cite, do not. To go back a couple days...this is also why Lake would be a *horrible* choice for running mate. The only thing she brings to the table is election denial. Oh...lemme fix that. Horrible choice for the Republicans. I think even Biden could beat a Trump-Lake ticket.
  5. That, and the high cost to get the...privilege of giving him that contract. From the Pulse this morning, emphasis mine: And we know how strong a statement that last one is.
  6. Oh yeah. Big day for New NFL. Jags and Chargers both eschew game-tying extra points to go for 2, with scant seconds left in the game. Both work. Huzzahs all round. Bask in the glory. /sarcasm_off That said...Chargers were on the road, and Jags were a hefty underdog. So I can kinda see them both, under the circumstances, but the overly aggressive types will see it as a vindication of their belief that I think is unwarranted overall.
  7. I doubt any hot candidate would take the job. I doubt even a Bienemy, who's been passed over for a couple years, would take it. So yeah, I've got no idea who'd take over either. The Broncos are a dumpster fire about on a level of the Lions of a few years back. Saying he may be fired tomorrow shouldn't be giving you hope; this season is a lost cause. It's too late to think the internal divisions can be patched this year, IMO. This team has fallen apart, according to all evidence. And he's not going to be around next year...particularly given that ownership has no reason to stay with him. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Paton gets axed at the same time.) Going back to the subject of pro football...NBC caught a shot of Rodgers in the tunnel...sans pads and jersey. Haven't been watching closely but apparently he's been getting beat up some more. Appears to be inevitable, then, that GB is done. That'll make the 6th NFC team at 4-8 or worse. The AFC may match that number next week...3 worse than 4-8 already, and 3 more at 4-7. Relegation. Definitely need relegation.
  8. Ehh...only Bart's head would be truly dangerous. I will grant this would be among the more obnoxious...but not particularly dangerous. Mind, if our vivisectionist included a Krusty head, we might have a real problem.............
  9. Careful there. You're dissing the home of some of the truly OUTSTANDING coffees. This is highly dangerous. Given that Trump is the current nominee-presumptive...neither. Trump accept a female running mate? Not gonna happen, IMO.
  10. https://thespun.com/nfl/nfl-world-believes-head-coach-will-be-fired-tomorrow
  11. There's no threat there. The kids will never stop fighting with each other; Carol's notion of a hostile gesture was a frown; Mike would just look lost and wonder what was going on. Alice might get a little upset, but she's too outnumbered. Just make sure not to leave any rolling pins within reach. The truly, utterly terrifying such creature would have 4 heads...the Bundys. (PLEASE feel free to play Can You Top This? with a different screen family. This could get really good.)
  12. In a stunning example of non-originality...superfecta. Yes, I looked it up. However, you have a Pick 4, or simply a parlay. A trifecta is picking the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place *in the same race*. And let's be clear, as you note. Including Utah in the parlay was meaningless. The moneyline was Utah -7000. Yeah...bet 7000 to win 100. So you only get a 3-bet parlay in practice. Mind, had you bet that parlay, it woulda had a pretty sweet payout.
  13. Another story, rather less positive, in NYT today. Not one we hear much about, even tho it's pretty much in our back yard. The opening para, as it's likely paywalled: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/27/briefing/haiti-cholera.html
  14. In the interest of maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere, I elect to use my right to say nothing about that image. One has to wonder where Trevor Lawrence might be now, had he had a coach last year. Plus: it ended up being nice that a) it was a single-game week for CBS, and there were no regional games for the late slot here b) it ran 20 minutes late, so we got to see quite a bit of the game. It was also nice, indirectly, that the Cincy game ended abruptly, with 3 kneeldowns...Tenn was out of timeouts. Also love that Brady lost. Unfortunately, yeah, it means the Browns won, which is...regrettable. (Family friendly, family friendly...!) AFC South is again completely under .500. The division is 11-21 against everyone else. And to add insult to injury? Carolina is 3-1 against the division...1-7 against the rest. Guess who the 1 is? EDIT: postgame after KC finishes off the Rams. At the end of the shots from the Panthers/Broncos, there's a shot of a teammate barking at Wilson. DUH. Bradshaw's parting comment: "They're upset, as they should be. Ugh, what a bad team." EDIT 2: after the highlights, Curt Menefee brought up The Hackett Question...and they spent about 5 minutes eviscerating the team. And pointing out that the defense is starting to yell at Wilson. Jimmy Johnson did bring up a very valid point...if they fire Hackett, who are they going to get? Mr. P made the joke about Matt Rhule taking the Nebraska job over in the college thread, but the Denver situation is far worse. There is possibly no worse situation in US major pro sports.
  15. I don't get much chance to see Jacksonville, but my, my, Trevor Lawrence just engineered a nice drive for a TD, starting from their own 25 with just over 2 minutes left. It's 27-26, and Jacksonville's playing for the win........................... BINGO!!!!! Up 1 with 14 seconds left. Baltimore played pretty soft coverage at the start, even forced a fumble that became an 11 yard loss and forced a TO...but let Jacksonville get big chunks, and got them into position for a VERY nice catch for the TD. Baltimore does get into position for a 67 yard FG attempt...but it's well short.
  16. Bears have the...honor...of being the first team eliminated from their division. Tennessee was flagged for roughing...hitting the center, who's protected on a long snap, on a FG attempt. Bengals got a first down inside 2 minutes, and the Titans were out of timeouts. Had they won, Houston would also have been eliminated. Instead, Houston is facing being eliminated completely next week, all at once. 7 teams in the AFC have 7 wins; the best Houston can finish is 7-9-1. So they're technically alive, but their probability has to be infinitesimal.
  17. We shoulda made it goals vs. touchdowns. That could still be a draw. Every time you think the Bronco offense couldn't look any worse..... Not that it's on here, but looking at the box score...one big play for 52 yards. Promptly followed by a fumble. Take that out, and 125 yards in 3 1/2 quarters. Hopeless.
  18. I mention Strafe because it gives us a defined maneuver we can use, to consider FMove as a ranged maneuver element in a broader context. I don't accept as a given that FMove is a flat 6 point cost in general...not without more in-depth analysis. And the only basis for that...is Strafe. The editions are not significantly different in this area; Strafe could be included in 5E with no more than trivial mods.
  19. Well, all Williams' TDs are rushing TDs, whereas the offensive TDs for Denver are rushing and receiving. Denver is, BTW, worst in the league by 2...to the Texans, who are the big front-runners for the #1 pick.
  20. Ahh...yeah. Actually, it's saying you do get to use your Leap with your Glide, indirectly, just to get that starting elevation and velocity. It actually means, in this arrangement, that you want to buy upward leap...and you might get some interesting-looking trajectories.
  21. What's the cost of those 8 PSLs? Granted, there's workarounds...even Basic Shot gives +2 OCV to offset the range mods, as well as +2 DCs. But it's generally going to be more, and often much more. Even more: the GM is much more likely to see "8 !!!! PSLs??" and raise a big red flag. The FMove element is more subtle. I think it shouldn't be allowed as a ranged maneuver element because 6E has a defined maneuver, Strafe...and that has a caution sign. The penalties and rules are far more explicit, and tougher. Using Moving Shot, can you pick the point at which you shoot, for determining the range mod? You can't do that with Strafe (except by permission). If they were at -4 to hit you, you're at -4 to hit them. If Moving Shot lets you shoot at 5m away, no penalty, then that's a huge effective OCV increase, and the -1 OCV for the maneuver is almost meaningless. Moving Shot also does not incorporate a velocity-based OCV penalty; Strafe does. So your strafing run where you wanna move 35 meters, and starting with a range mod of -4? You're at -10 OCV, AND -2 DCV. OK, Strafe allows the GM to say the Range Mod for the attack can be determined from any point along the path...and I probably would...but you still have the -v/6. AND, this is a maneuver penalty; you can't offset it with PSLs, you have to use CSLs. More expensive. And you have the -2 DCV. So elevating Strafe to a martial maneuver with the combat effects listed? That's way, way more than 5 points at higher point levels.
  22. Mymymymymymymy...........a most excellent level of chaos! A&M 38, LSU 23. USC just picked of ND...inside 5 minutes left, up 10, and now with the ball just outside the red zone. Should let them close it out. Assuming so...the top 4 are pretty much set and locked, without much room for argument. Georgia, Mich, TCU, USC. If they all win their conference title games, there's no dispute...odds are, not even for the seeding. Oh yeah, that's the door slamming. 16 yard TD run on 4th and 2. Extra point makes it a 3 score game with less than 3 minutes to go. Even TCU probably gets in now, unless they get spanked, I think. But if USC loses...OSU or Bama? I suspect Bama. Who else? If both TCU and USC lose...OSU *and* Bama? I doubt it; that's 2 Big 10 and 2 SEC, and I think the committee will want to avoid that at all costs.
  23. And as for fortune, and as for fame I never invited them in Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired They are illusions, they're not the solutions they promised to be The answer was here all the time I love you, and hope you love me Don't cry for me, Argentina Lionel Messi's Lament....?
  24. Can we cast a Quicksand spell on his landing spot after he whiffs the kick?
  25. There is no doubt, Clemson's out. They were #8 before, but a home loss to an unranked team? No good wins? Georgia's an absolute lock. Michigan is probably a lock but losing to Purdue, if they win today...they're a 4-loss, unranked team. That might raise some doubt. TCU might be in even if they lose next week...they're kicking butt right now. Cuz after that? Yeah, as was being said on the Iron Bowl halftime show, OSU lost *bad*, at home, and to a team without their top back. Their best win is Notre Dame, so they really want ND to beat USC. Clemson's dead. USC has the clear path, then...Bama or OSU? Bama wins that comparison, I'd think. If LSU beats Georgia, they'll have a compelling case. So I think: In: Georgia yes, Michigan unless they just play horribly Win out and in: TCU, LSU; USC if LSU loses to Georgia Everyone else will need the right upsets. Meanwhile, the Utah-Colorado game is showing why college needs a mercy rule. How often does 42-0 at halftime UNDERSTATE the dominance? Looks like...it does here. First downs, 20-1. Yards, 379-16. Yards per play, Utah a bit under 10, Colorado less than 1. Utah's had 7 possessions...and faced 3rd down 3 times. I'd say Utah avoided any chance of a letdown. Oregon's winning handily now, so that sets up USC vs. Oregon for the conference. Oregon was only #9, tho...even if they beat USC, I don't know if they can rise enough...maybe if TCU also loses in their title game, tho.
