  1. Even harder when cooking said dishes for a substantial number of people, unless you can do most of the prep work in advance. Even something simple and quick, when prepared for 1-2, frequently takes rather longer for even, say, 5 or more. Much less 10 or more...that's exacerbated by the fact that the average home kitchen isn't really set up for that many, or to allow 2-3 people to work at the same time.
  2. One smiles when *giving* the Vegemite sandwich. That distinction is important.
  3. Fingers intact, I presume... Yes, you may infer I've had at least one Thanksgiving somewhat...disrupted by such an incident....<sigh>
  4. 55 forecast for today...bit cool for down here but quite pleasant. Got to set up the chicken shortly, but that's easy. Going lazy...prosciutto and cheese. Gonna start by just fileting the chicken breast; if the thickness looks good there, that'll be it. Layer the goodies, fold the halves back together. Season well, wrap, back in the fridge til time to cook.
  5. The aftermath of the Michigan State tunnel assault after the Michigan game is in, or at least a big chunk of it is. 7 MSU players have been charged, felonious assault, assault and battery, and aggravated assault for the other 5. I just hope the charges serve as a lesson and a caution, so this doesn't happen again. Yeah, I have some sympathy for the MSU players, because they'll likely pay a very stiff price for losing their cool in the heat of the moment. I think all the charges are felony charges, and a felony *assault* conviction will close lots of doors for a very long time.
  6. So, the Cards fire their o-line coach for groping a woman. Methinks the coach probably drank...a tad...too much? And it's simply Something You Do Not Do, in a Catholic culture, I believe. It is NOT acceptable. I think the Cards also terminated him posthaste because a) it became public, b) I suspect there was a *strong* objection from the locals, and c) because this is the 2nd coach to have done this. This year. That pretty much dictates an immediate response. Ta-ta.... I suspect he'll have problems finding a new gig quickly. There's just too much negative press related to things like this floating around.
  7. Well, if instead of points, we call them scoring events...then I'll go with MNT in a heartbeat. So IOW, you're with me in saying, take the under...? It's too bad that the middle game tomorrow isn't Broncos at Cowboys. I mean, if there was any game more suited to a food coma than that one, I don't know what it could be.
  8. Oh, and since the walnut pie crust (VERY low carbs, yay!) is that small size...there was substantial leftover custard. And it is, more or less, a custard. Into the glass baking dish. Into the water bath. Into the oven...actually slightly ahead of the pie, as it was set to go before the oven finished pre-heating, but I didn't boil the water in the bath ahead, so the extra time was useful. Guess what I'm enjoying tonight. Oh, and tomorrow night? With just me, a chicken roulade...just chicken breast pounded flat...with prosciutto and havarti cheese laid on, then rolled back up (hence the name) and baked. That'll be prepped some time tomorrow. Altho I probably should've done it earlier when I was more upset. Taking a meat mallet and WHACKING THE TAR out of a piece of meat is quite therapeutic. Decided to push the chili...in this case, with a bottle of Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout to be added...to the weekend.
  9. Well....it's official now..... I'm committed.... The pumpkin pie's in the oven........
  10. This World Cup is turning into the soccer world's version of Thursday Night Football. The games, that is. Everything off the field is Saturday Night Live.
  11. And the Colorado Springs shooting. And the UNM shooting...which was planned, premeditated, and targeted. Which only had 1 death...one of the attackers, but still. It already has devolved. It is still only intermittent, but perpetual doesn't require continuous...but these incidents are all within 10 days of each other. And that doesn't begin to touch those that don't make the wider news. https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting Just to point out one: Richmond. The 19th. Mother, 3 kids. Incident categorizes it as both home invasion and domestic violence; the shooter was the father of 2 of the kids he shot. Just because we don't hear about it, doesn't make it any less sickening.
  12. Since superhero universes must have their supervillains... That which does not kill me, makes me angry.....
  13. y'know what makes for a really awful, terrible way to start one's morning? finding out there's been ANOTHER!!!! mass shooting event. 6 more dead because some messed up, unhinged, imbalanced whackjob got his hand on a gun and blasted away. God it hurts. I am sooo damn tired of it....
  14. I doubt he'll pick up any new support from these. Those who'd approve of them, were very likely in his camp already. The true measure of the state of politics, to me is...it probably won't cost him that much either. The stances? They're common enough. The delivery borders on incoherent. That might make some folks question his fitness...but not many. And to echo what I said above...they were probably *not* voting for him. Elsewhere...at this point, I don't think we can separate Twitter news from politics. https://theintercept.com/2022/11/22/twitter-allows-russian-officials-share-antisemitic-cartoon-zelenskyy/ The head of ad sales was fired today, because she refused to lay off even more staff. This, 10 days after Musk begged her to stay. The echoes of Trump resound.... WaPo has a story that over 1/3 of the top 100 advertisers, including 14 of the top 50, have stopped advertising on the site. It's paywalled, but... https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/11/22/twitter-advertiser-exodus-musk/ I got it through the stock market news app on my iPad...Mars candy, Merck, Kellogg's cereal (and lots of other stuff, I believe), and Verizon are all mentioned by name. Jeep, IIRC, came up in a separate story. And, last...for today at least: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/22/technology/elon-musk-twitter-cost-cutting.html This sounds like Disney's claim that they don't owe royalties to authors whose books they acquired. OMFG........................................ I just saw this. UNM and NMSU play home and home in basketball, done it forever. The games were called off because of a shooting up in Albuquerque. I'll just warn ya. There's nothing graphic, crude or offensive...except the motivation and the act itself. It's...bloody sick. https://www.krqe.com/news/albuquerque-metro/new-details-emerge-in-university-of-new-mexico-homicide/
  15. It takes the whole team. Montana, Rice, and Taylor won titles with a good running game to support them...and lost to the Cowboys when it wasn't quite there. Cowboys of that period...Moose Johnston was huge for them. Manning came to a Bronco team for nothing...and needed a running game and excellent defense. Flip side: 'star' QBs that went nowhere, or couldn't be at all consistent, are a dime a dozen. Ryan with Atlanta. Marino, push comes to shove. Stafford in Detroit, Dalton in Cincy...great numbers, not so great records. Rodgers is holding the Packers back now, IMO. It is important to note that it's getting harder and harder to do what Seattle did, simply because salaries at most positions are going through the roof. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfls-highest-paid-players-position-143705696.html#:~:text=NFL's highest paid players in,O-linemen | D-linemen One can argue the Pats success was due to...extraneous factors, to some degree, but one reason was, IMO, that they were able to convince players to take a little less...to have the shot at rings. Plural. It becomes a cultural characteristic...and so does individual greed, a la Dallas and Green Bay.
  16. Not World Cup per se, but hey, soccer. As pretty much assumed, Ronaldo and Man U have agreed to terminate his contract, effective immediately. In WC news... https://www.espn.com/soccer/wales-wal/story/4809845/wales-condemn-removal-of-fans-rainbow-bucket-hats-before-usa-game Not even a week in, and the ugliness just keeps on piling up.
  17. ....but if they reallllly want to be nice, they'll send the Lions a win on Thursday.... <cue creepy conspiracy music here> At the time of the trade for Wilson, I thought it was a bad move. 2 firsts and 2 seconds is notably more than the Ricky Williams trade. Now, OK, trading for a Pro Bowl QB is different from a running back, but I still maintain it compromises your team's chances by killing your depth. PLUS, I'm not a fan of the obscene contracts like Wilson or Rodgers. That's disruptive. Seattle decided to reboot...not only save that cap space, but get lots of potential assets. Teams have survived *one* of the problems...but sacrificing the assets AND being forced into a millstone contract? Awful.
  18. My, my, my... FIFA somehow manages to find new ways to lower its credibility. Considering its past, that's a feat.
  19. Anyone think Kingsbury is going to get axed? Not just for this. His style's been questioned quite a bit, running the offense on 4th down plays too much, for example. And if you remove the 7-0 start last season (which was squandered away)...he's 21-31-1, and 5-13 starting from the stretch-run collapse last year through last night. They're 2 1/2 back of Seattle, and even 2 back of Washington, with only 6 games left.
  20. I need my DeLorean... 750-1 underdog Saudi Arabia beats Argentina.
  21. The nice thing about this week is, there's LOTS of college basketball. Methinks the Niners will cover the spread with...exceptional ease, so, let's see if there's anything else out there at this (moderately) late hour.... Oh, it's only 31-10 as the 3rd is about to end, so my prediction is, well, worthy of Captain Obvious. Oh well...
  22. Just finished watching the first one, start to finish. Extremely interesting! Parallels with the US government while Trump was in office are far, far too easy to draw.
  23. The big caution to me is that even with a 36% growth in subscribers, the costs were so high that D+ still lost $1.5B...which was $400M, or about 35%, over expectation. That's even with all those shows. I'm wondering if all that Marvel content was just getting more and more of the same...not drawing in new fans. To a degree, that may also hold for Star Wars material...significant audience duplication. Just saw Wakanda Forever. Won't say much, but must give high marks to how they handled Chadwick Boseman. Gracious tributes.
  24. It was about 20 seconds when it was kicked, and he did return it from his own 16. You have a point, but I leaning more to BOTCHED coverage. Perhaps coverage aiming to completely pin them back, rather than contain. Or, also plausible, someone on the coverage team decided to be the hero, and left a honkin big, exploitable gap in the coverage.
