MOSTLY releases.  He's still not allowing the most senior leaders' nominations to proceed.  So, he's still a jackass, IMO.

    Just one.  This time.

    Yeah, stupid smoke alarm batteries.

UGH.  Must've missed one earlier.  And I have no spare 9V's.

Worse...that's just telling me it's time to replace all of them.  They're 12 years old.  Almost did it over the summer, well...now's the time.  And this time, it'll be the 10 year lithium battery types.

So...here I am, planning a quick late night trip to Wal Mart, they'll have em, and still be open...only 8:30.

    And the car won't start.

I accidentally left the interior light on for a few hours, but not, I didn't think, THAT long...but it's still dead.  That said, the battery may be pretty old anyway.

<sigh>  So I'm going to have a just LOVELY morning tomorrow..................................

I wonder how much that played into it.  Both sets of Games have had a terrible pattern of building up massive facilities that pretty much never get used again...and the host city/country takes a bath overall.

It makes FAR more sense to try to run the Games where this doesn't have to happen.  And heck, how often have many of the facilities been...let's be polite, and say "marginal" at the time of the Games because *that much* major construction couldn't get completed in time?

Of course, by '34 even prime time might be past my bed time...............

FSU is the team people think may be *out* in favor of Texas, even if they win.  That's why it's still chaos.  Everyone's making sense, and arguing good points, but that's the problem...every team has valid points.

Right now, you can write Michigan in.  Yeah, fine, it's not quite the end of the 1st, but the punt return gets them to the 5, they punch it in.  10-0.  Iowa?  10 points?  NOT likely.

The most amusing aspect of the Texas game?

Half time.  You're all familiar with the football toss for tuition money, run by that soft drink brand.  Well, the 2 participants were tied after the standard time...tied after, IIRC, a 15 second overtime.  Went to a toss-off, won there.

Except...oh, around the 4th quarter, I believe...they said there was a technical glitch.  The loser...actually should have won in the first OT.  I don't pay attention to those, to speak of, but obviously, if you don't switch games, you see several of these during these conference championship games.  I don't recall seeing a material glitch like this...oh, maybe one that might change the margin, but that doesn't matter.

So, they both got the full $100K, to make it right.

Rafa Nadal has announced he's going to play Brisbane, one of the tune-up events before the Australian Open.  It'll be his first event since the Aussie.  Hopefully he'll be physically able to play, altho with the collection of problems he's had for the last several years...I have my doubts.

He's said he expects to retire at the end of 2024.  I hope he can give the French one last run.

No one's defending her policies.  Trump has every flaw she's got...and every flaw every Republican candidate has, pretty much...and more besides.    Trump's *proven* he has no scruples, that his only interest is his self-interest, and that the rule of law means nothing to him.  ANY of the Republican candidates winning would be bad...but Trump would be many steps worse.

The first step in *maybe* bringing the Republican Party back to something tolerable, is getting Trump permanently removed as a power figure.  It isn't sufficient, but IMO it's necessary.

Hall and Oates own a company that owns their music. A second company, Primary Wave, bought a majority of their catalogue and wants the rest. They in turn can take an old song sell it on an advertisement and make money, get money for covers, resell under another artist like Weird Al, pay Hall and Oates limited revenue. The lawsuit is Hall doesn't want Oates to sell his part of the company to Primary Wave. He wants to keep as much of the catalogue as he can. Oates (after consultation with his wife and manager) wants to sell to get the money.

If Oates sells his stake, Primary Wave can tell Hall what to do with his own music, pay him less of a revenue from greatest hits and streams, sell off Hall's music to a third party (or their however much they own).

This is kind of like a takeover by buying out a partner. At least it's not Hall accusing Oates of plagirizing himself like John Fogarty.

The only workplace drama I ever had was one afternoon.  The project manager stuck his head in my door and suggested...I might want to close my door for the afternoon.  One of the developers on the modeling side...not a popular fellow, IIRC, but I barely ever spoke to him...kind of unusual, we weren't that big a group, and I often needed to talk to them...
    a) had been fired
    b) security (and the model team lead, I believe) came by to secure his computer,
    c) security walked him out of the building

Everyone else on the modeling side was told to take the afternoon off;  pretty sure they didn't come back from lunch.

Ohhh...I take that back.  Almost forgot about the guy...had the office next to me for a while.  Falsified all sorts of things on...everything important.  Employment application, security clearance stuff...quite a bit of stuff.  Not to the level of George Santos, mind...but...not all that far off.  I'm fairly sure he was arrested, not simply fired.

I will grant as well, that NBA disciplinary actions are ridiculously too low.  Green's action is completely outside any game action, or even any pretext of in-game action.  He's got just as bad an overall record, over the years...but nowhere NEAR has been done.  So a season-long suspension can't be dropped, even tho I think it should be.  No, I don't give a damn about any negative impact on the Warriors.  It's NOT!!!! acceptable.

The NBA is held hostage to its players, and has been for a very long time now.  The NFL can plausibly be described as held hostage to...SOME players.  The QBs.  But also, they've been crushed in court due to injuries related to hits like this.  Over, and over, and over again, they try to sell us that the game's safer.  Hits like this impugn the message.  Heck, there was a section of the NYT newsletter, about youth contact sports.  There was a study of, IIRC, about 160 teen suicides.  40% of them showed evidence of CTE.

And now you've got a player with 6 separate incidents in about half a season on the field?

When you're 2 of 12 on 3rd down, you're living on borrowed time.
When you only manage 13 first downs, you're living on borrowed time.
When you can't run the ball at all, you're living on borrowed time.
When you're passing 70% of the time, you're living on borrowed time...unless your passing game is really good at distributing the ball, to different receivers and different zones of the field.  Denver's isn't.

This game, in some ways, might be an exemplar for the entire season so far.  Mostly bad play, the team that makes the least costly mistakes overall squeaks by.

Browns win because Pickett was disastrously bad again.  In the Steelers' 4 losses, Pickett's yards per attempt is 5.0 or less.  His adjusted yards per attempt in 3 of the 4, is significantly under 4 yards per attempt.  Of the 31 QBs where ESPN gives a QBR (I presume sample size), he's 28th.  The Steelers are 31st in passing yards per game.  To me, the better question is how they've managed to be 6-4.  On the other side, the Browns are 4th in sacks per game;  Baltimore's WELL out in front at 4, Bills 3.5, Chargers 3.4, Browns and Cowboys 3.3....difference between Chargers and Browns/Cowboys is 1 sack.  Browns' defense leads the league, only giving up 243 yards / game;  Cowboys are 2nd at 266, so it's not a small gap.  Browns have the best 3rd down defense...by another wide margin.  Conversion rate against them, 25.4%.  Cowboys are 2nd...at 32.8.  This stat doesn't usually have that kind of spread...5 teams are at 35.x, another 4 are at 38.x.  There's 13 teams between 34.4 and 38.6.

The game's basically a pick'em, the lines 1.5.  O/U is, as you might guess, low at 36.5.  These may have been before the game tonight, tho.  I wouldn't be too surprised if the O/U drops down a bit;  with both teams, the defense is significantly better than the offense.  Might be fun to make a prop bet on there being a defensive touchdown.
