  1. Re: GATEWAY, the UNTIL space station Spelled out that way, Blue Jogger, makes it sond feasible enough for me to do in the future. Thanks for the breakdowns that I was too lazy to contemplate! Cat
  2. Re: GATEWAY, the UNTIL space station I'm a map nut too! And I loved the Bayside Blimp! The sneak peek of DH articles on the HERO home page are nifty, and the blimp article is what got me to purchase Digital Hero credits. I haven't used the blimp yet, but it's only a matter of time. I think that's an awesome venue for a knockdown dragout, not to mention its exotic locale for various role-play situations. And you're right about GATEWAY. That is huge! Thanks for the advice. I've got to get busy whipping out some sample areas where interaction is likely to occur. Thanks for Liberty too. I plan on using that. If not in the upcoming adventure, somewhere. Thanks again! Cat
  3. Re: GATEWAY, the UNTIL space station Thanks for the input! I did manage to actually read about GATEWAY last night. A friend let me borrow his UNTIL book until (npi) I can get the game store this weekend. GATEWAY does have artifical gravity, and I think for the sake of laziness and sanity I will go ahead and have the boring "Earth is down" approach. I'm sure for the sake of experimentation there are null-gravity zones. Although... any number of villains, once aboard GATEWAY could wreak tons of damage by manipulating the gravity controls.... Cat
  4. Re: GATEWAY, the UNTIL space station Thanks CBikle, for the info. I'll see if I can't track down one or the other.
  5. Has anyone ever mapped out GATEWAY? Or found any maps of space stations or moon bases online? I'm running a scenario this weekend which involves such environs, but I am coming up with nothing. Does anyone else wish that the various bases written up in sourcebooks included plans or maps? Heck, if I had my preference, the maps and plans coupled with the descriptions would suffice; I could come up with the stats. What I loved most about Champions Battlegrounds were the maps of the various locales. Here is a suggestion or two. My preference would be to include the maps in the sourcebook obviously. But a compromising suggestion would be to include maps in Digital Hero. (Or is this already being done? I seem to recall a floorplan of the Bayview Blimp in one of the articles I recently purchased.) Oh well, enough constructive criticism. If anyone else has considered a lunar base but had a hard time tracking down plans, I found that an Antarctic research facility like the one in this link: New South Pole Station could be modified with little work. 6. Re: Enhanced Perception Costs Thanks, NuSoardGraphite, for the reply. Was it like this in 4th edition as well? I can't recall.
  7. Guys help me out here. A player in my group pointed this out last night. His character has 14- Perception Roll and Telescopic +8 (24 active points) for three sense groups - sight, radio, & hearing. Is there any reasonable explanation for why he shouldn't just buy Enhanced Perception +8 (24 active points) for all sense groups? Why should he penalized rather than rewarded for limiting his character? Is Enhanced Perception accurately priced? What about Telescopic? Even if we ignore the Telescopic... Say he has Enhanced Perception +8 with the above three sense groups. That's 48 active points. Or he could be just as sensitive with all his senses for 24 active points. Double the cost for ~technically~ less effectiveness? I'm considering allowing limitations like Only to Offset Range Penalties and Limited Sense Groups on Enhanced Perception purchases. How do you all deal with this in your groups? Has the issue been dealt with officially (lazy me scanned the faq, but not thoroughly)? Am I misinterpreting something here? Would Enhanced Perception affect range modifiers for senses? I was thinking EP was a blanket bonus to the perception roll that would offset any penalties to the roll, whereas Telescopic would only offset the range penalties. Teach me the errors of my ways. Cat
  8. I'm dense. And lazy. I couldn't find a definite answer in the black book or the faq. If I buy DCV levels with the usable simultaneously advantage, do they cost END? Could I slap the visible limitation on said power? Cat
  9. Re: Code VS Killing Poll I second that sentiment! This thread is wearing me out! We've mentioned failing EGO rolls... I must be failing mine, 'cause I keep coming back to this! I'm not getting any work done, hobby-wise or real work-wise! Cat
  10. Re: Code VS Killing Poll As I said previously, most superheroes actually do coordinate with authorities or have some sort of government stamp of approval. And besides, it doesn't take government approval to do the right thing. I disagree with your position on superhuman psychology. I do not think that simply being granted abilities many (or even a few) orders of magnitude above normal people would eradicate years of societal conditioning. Isn't the reason why some people with super powers are considered villains is because of their disregard for society's moral position (as is often reflected in its laws)? I'm thinking that in most comic books and in real life there are also similar circumstances of corrupt authorities and unjust laws, etc. Certainly in my games these circumstances exist. But let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. In the venues where my characters tend to operate, even though there are corrupt officials and terrible wrongs, there also exist methods of correction. Why not work within those legitimate methods rather than devolve society into what Hobbes decried as a "war of every man against every man"? A world wherein all (superpowered or otherwise) are guided by conscience rather than consensus is IMO much closer to hellish nightmare than heavenly ideal. Cat
  11. Re: Your superhero games, comic-based or comic-opposed? I haven't read as many comics as most people my age in this forum, but I try to use the game to simulate comics. I think that is because the people who introduced me to the game long ago and not so far away (AgentX and Superskrull) have the same mentality. Cat
  12. Re: Code VS Killing Poll I was not aware that the threat of death, etc., were eliminated by CVK. In fact, a hero with a code against killing psych lim is more endangered. He has to find less lethal ways to stop villainy than may be at his or her disposal. Often the hero put him- or herself in much more danger in protecting others from harm. Plenty of heroes have questioned their actions. They wonder why they even try when they can't save everyone. They question whether they are abusing their power. They question their own motives. And they do question their actions when they have abused their powers. The CVK doesn't prevent this. It enables it. And as to others' questioning their actions, that's also definitely going to happen thanks to the CVK. "Why didn't you kill him? He murdered my father! You coward!" "Your reckless antics in what you call heroism could have ended in many more deaths! You and your ilk are a threat to society!" Or when the CVK causes the hero to hesitate a second too long: "Why'd you let him kill her?! What were you thinking? You should have killed him when you had the chance!" I really don't think we're that far removed from one another, but there may be a gap of miscommunication between us. Cat
  13. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Respectfully, you're putting words in my mouth. I'm saying that there was a choice. You don't agree. I'm not saying that Darknight was not superheroic because he killed the villain. His sacrifice was most certainly superheroic. Killing is not something superheroes don't do. It's something they shouldn't do. There are extreme situations like Darknight's case. The GM should reward ingenuity. If we played the villains like the ruthless bastards who exist in reality, only with superpowers, the superheroes would certainly have no choice. The villains would strike without warning, there would be no chance to stop their plots before they acted, and they would likely succeed. I'm not into roleplaying that sort of masochism. Comic book superheroes have a trump card. The writer has a plan for how things are giong to come out. So if you're saying that Spiderman didn't have a choice, then that's the only way I can agree with you. No character had a choice in the movie because the plot was already set. RPG superheroes have to rely on their players to make choices for them. The choices made are real. Every time a PC saves the bystanders instead of capturing the villain, every time a PC comes up with a way to thwart the villain's plans thus saving the innocent and capturing the villain, a choice was made. To kill is not the only choice. I think this is just going to come down to playing style. Cat

  16. Herodom Assemble! I'm looking for ideas to ste--- borrow. I'm interested in seeing what kind of power stunts you guys have come up with over the years so that I can make good use of my various characters POWER skills. Thankin ya ahead o' time, Cat
  17. Re: Base Maps Question and Request The old Top Secret RPG had an adventure module, Lady In Distress I believe, that included a map of a ocean liner. I'm not sure how the adventure went, but the map alone was pretty cool IIRC. Cat

    Sapphire?

Re: Sapphire? Well actually... it could be a VIPER cloned-celebrity money-making scheme gone awry... Right Superskrull? Cat
  19. Re: Help: UNHQ moves to Millennium City LOL Holdin' back Canadian comments.. But Peche Island is so close to MC that it wouldn't make that much difference, would it? Cat
  20. Re: Use of Mutants and Masterminds Our group (Agent X is a member) has begun using the Freedom City supplement. We've placed FC in the otherwise standard 5th edition Champions Universe. Since the player characters are the Freedom League and supposed to be the premiere team on the planet, they're built on 450 points. The damage classes are way up there, but so far it's been a lot of fun. The nice thing about Freedom City in that regard is that the FC villains have yet to be converted so I can match their power level to that of the PCs. I also picked up Crooks for M&M, and there are some characters in there I intend to use as well. IMHO the feel that Freedom City has is superior to other ficitonal backgrounds because it feels very much like a comic book both while reading the material and playing the game. I can't say that about the games I've run in the standard 4th or 5th ed Champions Universes. Cat
  21. Re: Is this technique now considered legal? I snipped all the ON-TOPIC stuff... The early nineties was probably about when I started going to New World or playing Champs. Although I spent more time at The Otherside. Cool to know there are more than just my gang who know the joint! Cat
  22. Re: Why do folks that dislike Hero hang out here? As Lemming said, I don't see many Herohaters here. I read posts that sometimes are critical of aspects of the system or its designers, but most of those posters are commenting in an effort to improve (in their opinion) the system. I think their intent is good, if not always their delivery. Cat
