  2. Re: Character Concept: Nanites and their host Basically what EverKnight said. The nanites are special effect. Purchase extra Stun that represents the nanites being in control of the physical form. If this extra Stun is only accountable while the character is unconscious, there may be a limitation that could apply. I'm not sure whether the Trigger advantage would be necessary. Greater HEROphiles than I will be able to answer those questions. The psychic liability of the nanites could be represented with a physical limitation. The character could count as both human and machine (or alien) classes of mind. The loss of power due to blood loss could be an accidental change or physical limitation too.
  3. Re: New Guy likes SPD Chart The speed chart is nifty. For me it added a level of familiarity since I had already been playing Star Fleet Battles for several years.
  4. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) That cape business is not funny. I had a character that got clocked by a villain's cape. On second thought, it was pretty hilarious... even though his teammate immediately thereafter brought the building down on them with a whoops! moment. Cat
  5. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) Hmmm... is it really that simple? Maybe I was making things harder on myself with the usable by others advantage. If you add area effect to enhanced perception would it enhance everyone's perception in the area? How does area effect work with perception? Should we even worry about it? Cat
  6. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) I built some various interpretations from effect. Flashlight I is the Long brand. Flashlight II is the Cat brand. And Flashlight III is the old tried and true Big Blue brand. All of them use the same batteries. Flashlight I: Sight Group Images 1" radius, +/-4 to PER Rolls, 1 Continuing Fuel Charge lasting 1 Hour (+0) (22 Active Points); OAF (-1), Only To Create Light (-1), No Range (-1/2) 6 real points, 22 active Flashlight II: +4 PER with Normal Sight, 1 Continuing Fuel Charge lasting 1 Hour (+0), Usable Simultaneously (up to 2 people at once; +1/2), Area Of Effect (2" Radius; +1) (10 Active Points); OAF (-1), Only to Create Light (-1) 3 real points, 10 active Flashlight III: Change Environment 1" radius, +4 to Normal Sight PER Rolls, Only to Negate PER Penalties Due to Lack of Light (+0), 1 Continuing Fuel Charge lasting 1 Hour (+0) (11 Active Points); OAF (-1) 5 real points, 11 active Flashlight II has A LOT of problems. Someone with greater HERO experience than I have would be able to make it work. The Usable Simultaneously is necessary for the effect of allowing others to see. I think the Visible limitation could also be applied to this one. Flashlight III is the most aesthetically pleasing to me. I was unsure what the Only to Negate... would be worth, but I assumed little to nothing. It's really only a definer instead of a modifier. Cat
  7. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) Oh I'm not defending the Images flashlight by any stretch. He asked, and I looked up. It seems like to me that the illuminating power of a flashlight shrieks Enhanced Perception, but I've never really bothered with it. Very rarely is the group I play with in a situation where a no-points flashlight or some other means of illumination isn't readily available. Cat
  8. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) I'm not sure about the the original 5th edition. Page 137 of the revised rulebook says, "Change Environment cannot provide 'positive' effects or bonuses to any character (other than the beneficial result of hindering his enemies)."
  9. Re: Change Environment vs Images (light only) Is it possible to build a flashlight with the optional Succor version of Aid?
  10. Re: Damaging gag attacks Sounds like a lot of automatons....
  11. Re: Gods of DEMON, gods of Thun? I don't have either book, but that won't stop me from showing my ignorance. I thought Slug was Elder Worm.
  12. Re: Blazing six guns! I just ran a 450-point immortal cowboy last night. Maverick is... Well, picture a cross between Ghost Rider and the Vigilante. Instead of a spirit of vengence, Mav has an atonement theme. He's making up for a heinous act of cowardice that resulted in the massacre of some Native Americans back in the early 1900s. His "spectral sixguns" are in a 90-point multipower that includes a 2d6 RKA-Double Penetrating, 6d6 Ego Attack-Affects Desolidified, 24d6 Dispel v. one magic power at a time, and a 30d6 Dispel v. Summoning. The Ego Attack and Dispels can be missile deflected. I did not come up with the powers, but it has been fun using them. Last night he rapid-fired three ego-attack Eerie Electrum Bullets into an already-hammered Gargantua and wholloped the snot out of him! The eeries have the Visible limitation, and the special effect is that it looks to the target that he really was shot. (Later in the battle Slick was targeted, but didn't go down. He *was* freaked out, though!) Cat
  13. Re: The Munchkin Build Contest Where is Champsguy when ya need him? I gotta revive the Dr. Destroyer v. Takofanes thread and find the pimp cane...
  14. Re: New Book: Superheroes and Philosophy I am so glad you posted this! I did NOT know of the book. Thanks muchly! [EDIT: Unfortunately... ]
  15. Re: What??!! The Roman Empire fell to pieces while Jesus was still alive??!! A lot of the differences could depend on what caused the fall of the empire. Or are you saying that the causes for the fall occurred sooner. Because then I still have to ask what caused the causes to occur sooner.... Cat
  16. Re: Creation philosophy Actually much older than that... I didn't know there was a modern song, much less a "Poe" person. But cool! Now I hafta go find some music. Cat
  17. Re: Creation philosophy Ladies and gentlemen, hoboes and tramps, Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bow-legged ants, I come before you to stand behind you, To tell you something I know nothing about. Next Thursday, which is Good Friday, There will be a Mother's Day meeting for fathers only; Admission is free, so pay at the door, Pull up a seat and sit on the floor. The topic to discuss... The crime that has never been committed. One fine day in the middle of the night, Two dead men got up to fight, Back to back they faced each other, Drew their swords and shot each other, One was blind and the other couldn't see So they chose a dummy for a referee. A blind man went to see fair play, A dumb man went to shout "hooray!" A paralyzed donkey passing by, Kicked the blind man in the eye, Knocked him through a nine-inch wall, Into a dry ditch and drowned them all, A deaf policeman heard the noise, And came to arrest the two dead boys, If you don't believe this story’s true, Ask the blind man he saw it too! 20. Re: What blocks senses and powers? Hmm, I'm a little concerned about a transparent advantage. Why couldn't indirect work? A normal EB won't ignore intervening physical objects (they have DEF), that is certain. No free lunches here. And I don't believe an NND would allow for any indirect-like properties of itself. You'd need something more. Like indirect. I'm not sure exactly what's being said, I guess. In what ways does indirect let you down in this situation? Wouldn't the transparent advantage be similar to the adder on force walls? It seems like it would be more appropriate on defenses. The more I think about it, the indirect advantage seems to do what you are looking for. Couldn't you simply limit the indirect with a modifier like "not through water, (-1/2)." Or does indirect already have some built-in definable blocker similar detects and n-ray? Right off the cuff, here's how I would handle the lack of "utter darkness" vision. Buy n-ray perception, affected as normal sight with the common blockers as opaque objects and ambient light. Or photons. The way light works, if there is a shred of luminosity, the n-ray would not work. Granted, the power is going to next to useless, but the character concept may justify it more than the saving of points. Cat
  21. Re: What blocks senses and powers? I thought that detects (usually) use one of the standard senses, in which case, they would be blocked as the standard sense. So if the detect were sight-based, then opaque objects would block that detect as well. Is that wrong? Don't detects not based on an existing sense have to specify a common blocker? I'll hafta get the book out in a bit.. In the meanwhile, I wonder what it would be like if N-Ray were done away with and a cost-balanced adder for other senses replaced it. What would that look like as a house rule? Anyone experiment with this in the past or have some wisdom to impart? Cat
  22. Re: GATEWAY, the UNTIL space station Excellent advice all around! Thanks guys!
